Report: Tom Brady expected to sign with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Seems like a pretty good fit.Tampa has 2 outstanding WRs 2 very good TEs and a decent OL
I can see the Bucs going something like 11-5
I hope the Pats have a bunch of years where they finish 4-12 and people can stop saying Bill Belich is the reason why the Pats have been so good ..Bill B is 51-63 as an NFL head coach when Tom Brady wasnt his starting QB including going 10-5 after Brady got hurt
I still love the patriots always have they have the best uniforms in the nfl but I think the Brady-Belichick combo is a package deal. Neither is good on their own but combined they unstoppable

Neither is good on their own?
I’d amend that slightly and see them sort of like Lennon/McCartney - both are good but together they are uniquely good.

Does anyone on the planet say this about Walsh and Montana? Such a ridiculous take.
Yuck. I suppose it's a good fit for him with no state income tax, Arians, and those talented receivers but it's hard to get excited about him being a Buccaneer.
At least he gets to wear and absolutely horrible uniform.
Really hope Tampa takes this opportunity to change its uniforms.

my cousin started on the O-line for the bucks back then. bad uni's. bad team.

I actually love the creamsicle uniforms. I think a modern version would be awesome.
The fact that there is a version of this with Brady as the Buccaneer is awesome.
March 18th, 2020 at 10:11 AM ^
They changed them about a week ago. Uniwatch gave the preview of them.
Well, one thing that’s for sure, is the number of interceptions the Bucs have next season is going to plummet dramatically.
Best of luck Tom think you're making a mistake
I can’t believe how many people are shocked by Brady leaving NE when literally EVERYTHING that was said and done, by both him and the Patriots over the last 6+ months, directly pointed at him not resigning with the team.
You are right of course.
/grammar observation
I find it interesting that the term resign (re-zine), which means to quit or leave a job, is now being pronounced as re-sign which means to stay in your job. Not saying it's "wrong", but it's always funny to me when the same word pronounced slightly differently but spelled the same means two completely opposite things.
/end grammar observation
This is the kind of shit I talk about when I'm high.
Who pronounces them the same? Never heard that.
Come to MGoBlog for sports, stay for the lexicon/idioms
Tom Brady is an amazing QB. Pair that with a Pats defense that is perennially top 10 in the league and you win a lot of Super Bowls.
In Brady’s entire career, the 2 seasons the Pats had defense in terms of PA ranked worse than 15th, ‘02 (17th), ‘05 (17th), they missed the playoffs and lost in the divisional round respectively.
Super Bowl season ranks:
‘01 (6th)
’03 (1st)
’04 (2nd)
’14 (8th)
’16 (1st)
’18 (7th)
That’s the winning formula and Bill B as general manager, being able to consistently build a championship defense in the salary cap era is absolutely unremarkable.

Having a QB that doesnt turn the ball over and helps your offense keep the ball away from the other team, does wonders for a defense .
Edit: read that pre-coffee
Belichick led the Browns to the playoffs and won a game! Stop this foolishness like he somehow can’t coach. Hell I would argue he led the Patriots to the playoffs in spite of Brady at times last season. We all think Brady is the GOAT, but at 43 years old I can understand the Patriots not wanting to pay him $30M+. They both are great, no need to diminish one while championing the other.
I really have a hard time believing it’s about the money as far as Brady is concerned. He and Giselle are worth roughly $600 million combined. I can’t imagine, after taxes, the extra $5-10 million he’s going to make by leaving NE was some huge factor in his decision.
He wants to prove he can do it without Belichick.
My guess is simply that he didn't want to come back to New England on a one-year cheap deal, and New England wasn't offering anything other than a one-year deal.
He may want to play until he's 45, but we all know Time is undefeated and even the best rarely manage a draw (thinking Barry Sanders, mostly). I think that Tampa Tom will not look anything like his days of yore. He was noticeably worse last year, and I don't see that turning around. I fear it will be more last-year-of-Manning than we'd like.
How was Barry Sanders a draw with Time? He retired at 30 bc of how incompetent the Lions are.
Yep... Barry wasn't bottoming out at all.
He was on the cusp of breaking the rushing record.
But the fucking Lions mentally burned him out so much, Barry said screw it and retired.
Even without the record though he's still the greatest RB ever to play the game!
Jim Brown would like a word
Browns fan here- Jim Brown couldn't hold Barry Sanders' jock
There isn't a RB that did more with less than Barry.
There isn't a RB that did more with less than Barry.
The Lions went to the playoffs 5 times in Barry's short career, including an NFC Championship Game. And the Lions went to the playoffs without him the year he retired.

He also had a 6 time all-pro and a 4 time all-pro blocking for him. Barry is deservedly regarded as one of the best but some people act like he had nothing around him.
It’s not necessarily about what his wife makes or will this money change their lives. Moreso about where he sees himself at and where the Patriots see him at. Money is not the be all end all...but he’s a prideful guy! He’s looking at what some of these other QB’s are getting paid and thinking to himself “I know I’m better than Tannehill! If he’s making that, you better not pay me a penny less!” I’m sure Suzy Orman or Tony Robbins “don’t need the money” they charge for speaking engagements, but their fee is their fee and if you want them you have to pay it.
March 18th, 2020 at 12:56 AM ^
Suzy Orman and Tony Robbins main skills that they use to command their speaking fees don’t diminish rapidly when they’re in their early/mid 40s.
Tom Brady can believe, based on his accomplishments, that he’s worth whatever the hell he wants to believe. But sports teams, the smart ones at least, are generally going to pay a player based on what his future value is likely to be, not on what he’s accomplished in the past. And the fact of the matter is Brady looked considerably diminished last season and he’s going to be 43 years old when the 2020 season kicks off
It Tom Brady 2020 going to be better than Ryan Tannehill 2020? Maybe. It’s not a crazy prediction to make. But there are also countless examples of all time great QBs who, once the skills start to diminish, have it go south in a hurry.
Maybe he just wants to finish his career with some actual wide receivers. The Pats criminally wasted several years of TB’s career by refusing to sign any legitimate WRs. The Pats took TB for granted with their endless WR reclamation projects. It is true that TB could make poo poo receivers look decent, but those poo poo receivers often reverted to form when it counted. Giselle was right.
March 18th, 2020 at 10:15 AM ^
Pats currently have $3.2M in cap space. They couldn't even make Brady a legitimate contract offer.
Tampa Tom.
Tampa supposedly had a decent defense?
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Tom Brady is probably better than Jameis Winston, so nice job Bucs
I kind of wish TB would retire and go out on top. He's already considered by most as the GOAT. Just don't see him adding to his legend with TB.
That level of competitiveness doesn't have an "OFF" switch. It's as much a curse as a blessing. Even after football leaves him for good, he'll probably either become addicted to gambling or maybe join a hostile takeover firm.
Or start coaching *fingers crossed*
I'm rather skeptical that Tom Brady would be a good coach. He's got that vibe of a guy whose [football] brain runs at a million mph and would thus quickly lose patience if his charges failed to keep up with him feeding info out of a firehose.
In my experience, most coaches were marginal pros -- if even that -- who made up for a lack of talent with savvy, but not on Tom Brady's level! The brain is the most important asset of a QB and Tom's noggin is indisputably HoF-caliber talent. I don't know if he can bring it all the way back to connecting with baffled HS recruits -- even if he wasn't a bona fide football genius, dude's literally spent more time in the NFL than our freshman class has been alive. As potential future coaches I'm thinking more along the lines of Jordan Kovacs or Amara Darboh.
Jameis Winston was 380 out of 626 ATT for 5,109 yards, 33 TDs and 30 INTS (!!!)
Zoinks!
Between fumbles and interceptions, I think he averaged 4 turnovers per game. Not someone you can win with. 30 interceptions and 12 fumbles in 2019.
My math is a bit fuzzy, but 30 + 12 is 42. There are 16 games in an NFL season. 42 / 16 = 2.6 so his average was only a shade over 2.5 (still astronomical, you're right about that) but it is a bit hyperbolic to say 4 turnovers per game.

I think he threw 3 or 4 picks against the Lions last season.
But, naturally, the Bucs still won.
This was a move the Bucs had to make.
They have two star WRs, two great TEs, a solid OL, and it was all being pissed away on waiting for Jaimeis to finally turn a corner. They also have an indifferent Long-suffering fan base, a half-empty stadium every Sunday, and seats being gobbled up for cheap by every opposing team that comes into town. Your home games are essentially turning into road games anytime a big time team like the Giants, Eagles, Steelers, or Saints come into town.
Brady has the potential to fix all of that by himself. He sells tickets, he’s a proven commodity, he’s a winner in the highest sense of the word, and he makes everyone around him better. You think Evans and Godwin were good with Jameis? Imagine having Brady throw to them. Meanwhile, they can draft an up and comer in the middle rounds and have the best player to every play the game mentor him for two years.
The Glazers have a less than stellar reputation around Tampa, but kudos to them for having the balls to pony up and fix what’s been ailing their franchise for over a decade. They needed a spark. A reason for people to get excited about Bucs football. They paid through the nose for it, but as long as he stays healthy, this guy makes them a Super Bowl contender by himself.
Glazers aren't much liked in England either. Ha!
