Jace Howard final 3; announcing 1/20
A very long and hard fought recruiting effort is coming down to the wire.
Jace Howard is down to his final 3: Michigan, Brown and Princeton. He’ll be deciding on January 20.
I’m told his parents are very impressed by Michigan. Huge if true.

Hopefully a Grayshirt, to keep our options open for Brown and Christopher.

Jace is going to be a great glue guy for 3-4 years especially with the philosophy shift under Juwan. You’d think the team will be much younger on average moving forward. It’ll be awesome to have Jace in a leadership role in his latter years.

We need a hat ceremony with Mom and Dad in attendance. Or would that be a recruiting violation?
January 8th, 2020 at 10:26 AM ^
Depends. How was the hat acquired?
January 8th, 2020 at 9:22 AM ^
I'm concerned about Michigan's head coach paying for his move and living with Jace during the off season.
January 8th, 2020 at 9:25 AM ^
plus he might have something going with that recruit's mother. i can see the headlines now if that gets out.
January 8th, 2020 at 9:42 AM ^
Harbaugh got shit for a sleepover. Imagine the flak Juwan will get for having lived with this kid for 16 years!!
January 8th, 2020 at 10:18 AM ^
And slept with his mom!!!
January 8th, 2020 at 11:55 AM ^
Had CONFIRMED SEX with this kids mom...wild, imagine what our rivals will say...

I don't know what this is.
January 8th, 2020 at 12:31 PM ^
Well, he conquered a pony so maybe he had sex WITH a horse?
January 8th, 2020 at 10:33 AM ^
Time for this to just go away.
January 8th, 2020 at 11:37 AM ^
Are you not getting sick of this yet?
January 8th, 2020 at 9:59 AM ^
I know Jace has taken an official visit so the walk on route is off the table but why wouldn’t Juwan keep an extra spot open? Especially with the level of kids that are considering UofM right now.
His income makes the tuition a minor thing. Don’t employees of the University get free/discounted tuition?
January 8th, 2020 at 10:04 AM ^
I think we are in the pool of teams now that will take more commitments than we have open, knowing that some of the verbal commits will likely end up going elsewhere. The way Beilein recruited was atypical. It will feel a bit weird for a while but most of the "big boy" programs offer a shit load of high-end players and eventually take the ones who follow through. There will also be notable attrition from this team, including perhaps some we don't see coming, IMO.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:08 AM ^
Stop perpetuating the “official visit = can’t walk on” thing. There is nothing other than message board talk about it. I’ve searched everywhere and couldn’t find an official rule about it.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:36 AM ^
You don’t believe everything you read? Thanks for the clarification.
January 8th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
No problem. Didn’t mean to sound like I was scolding you for doing it. It’s weird how things like this spread. Someone says it one time and it spreads like wildfire.
January 8th, 2020 at 2:53 PM ^
Not at all. I’m glad to be corrected.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:34 AM ^
The walk-on route IS still available despite an official visit.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:10 AM ^
A school where we're hoping he can walk-on and not take up a scholarship and two schools that don't give out athletic scholarships. I like our chances here.
January 8th, 2020 at 12:09 PM ^
How good are the Ivy League bagmen???
January 8th, 2020 at 10:17 AM ^
It says a lot about the trajectory of the program when we can go toe to toe with Brown and Princeton.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:23 AM ^
It also says a lot about the priorities in the Howard household when Brown and Princeton are knocking at your child's door.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:44 AM ^
"To tell you the truth, all I've heard is scholarship," Jace said. "From what I've been told I would be a scholarship player."
January 8th, 2020 at 11:09 AM ^
Those slimy D1 coaches will tell recruits anything to get them to sign. Jace should have a long talk with his parents to make sure this claim is valid.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:46 AM ^
I think those Ivy league schools would be a better option for him. Not sure how he fits at UM.
January 8th, 2020 at 10:47 AM ^
Brown and Princeton?? Damn! I’m not surprised the young man is intelligent based on what I’ve seen from his dad but that’s impressive!!
January 8th, 2020 at 11:08 AM ^
Perfect world - goes to Brown or Princeton and develops a bit more there. Finish degree in three years (I believe Ivy League does not let grad students play). Transfer to Michigan for grad school and play with his brother (a 2022 recruit IIRC). Jace gets an Ivy League degree and a Michigan graduate degree. Tough to beat in any industry!
January 8th, 2020 at 11:37 AM ^
Your perfect world is different than my perfect world. Mine would be he comes to Michigan, stays all four years, and wins four national championships in basketball. He also shockingly becomes an All American D tackle for the football team leading them also to 4 national championships. He goes on to get drafted as a lottery pick in the NBA. He has an NBA career like Michael Jordan only better. Then after he retires from the game, he comes back to coach Michigan and leads us to more national championships.

Pass me some of that electric lettuce you’ve got over there. I,too, want to believe.
January 8th, 2020 at 12:59 PM ^
When did Fred Jackson move to Minnesota?
January 8th, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
Lol. You are absolutely correct. Should have said, “In my preferable, realistic world”
January 8th, 2020 at 11:58 AM ^
Can somebody please fill me in on how all these roster spots will be open?
January 8th, 2020 at 12:12 PM ^
We have 2 open spots currently. Combine that with Simpson/Teske graduating and we're at 4 spots for next year. If you assume a grad transfer for Davis/another transfer (Nunez), that gives us six scholarships for next year.
We have 4 committed currently. So that's 2 spots for Christopher/Brown/Howard (and I would guess that if in some fantasy world Brown and Christopher want to come here, Howard is a walk-on his first year).

January 8th, 2020 at 6:02 PM ^
Not really sure why Davis would leave when he is getting more minutes than Castleton nowadays. Unless Todd and brown both come I don’t see that happening.
January 8th, 2020 at 1:18 PM ^
Just take a look at the bball roster about October 2020 and it'll all be worked out.
January 8th, 2020 at 12:54 PM ^
JH better have an honest conversation with the parents about what he can offer Jace and his future. I hope he is able to convince them.
January 8th, 2020 at 1:30 PM ^
I may be the only one, but Jace to Michigan is not a no-brainer. I am not sure that he will pick Michigan. I sure hope he does, but there are reasons that he may not. He needs to do what he feels is in his best interest.
January 8th, 2020 at 1:50 PM ^
I’m starting to be in that camp as well. He sees himself as a player, and he may feel his best shot at getting significant PT is at one of the other schools.
January 8th, 2020 at 1:35 PM ^
With that top 3, he probably won't qualify academically. Sad.
January 8th, 2020 at 1:49 PM ^
I like how most have already pegged him walking on into this class, however maybe he is not blind and sees the pathway to quicker playing time and an awesome education may be with the two Ivy League schools. I get it that his dad is the coach, but all that means nothing for a kid who may want to get on the court as quick as possible.
January 8th, 2020 at 2:06 PM ^
It's a single example... but my Dad was in a prominent position at a college. Despite having a great relationship with my Dad, both he and I agreed I should not go to his school when it was time to decide where to go. He also vetoed Michigan which didn't make me happy, but I went to the school he suggested and got a great education and experience. Sometimes what seems logical to everyone else isn't logical to those actually involved.
January 8th, 2020 at 2:33 PM ^
If your parents work for Michigan to you get free tuition? If so why burn a scholarship given his salary I think Juwan can afford room and board. Plus if Jace is being recruited by Princeton he will be in line for some academic scholarships as well.
January 8th, 2020 at 4:11 PM ^
Can't young Howard consider himself a *scholarship* player if he walks on at Michigan, since his father is paying his tuition and receiving a nice salary from UM at the same time? From this perspective, it's like we get one more scholarship player than the schools we compete against, and to my knowledge, a coach can start/play as many walkon players as he chooses (I'm sure there are rules regarding how many can suit up/travel, etc.). I can understand that there is a special feeling with earning the scholarship, but in this instance, it just seems like a win/win for us and the Howards, especially given the big ticket athletes who are still available and might give the '91 class a run for their money!
