This is excellent news! Now let's throw the ball to him!
January 5th, 2020 at 5:56 PM ^
It’s that simple, get him the fucking ball. Great news, Go Blue!
January 5th, 2020 at 6:04 PM ^
Truth. 8-10 targets a game please!
January 5th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
If we only target him 8 times we should fire Gattis immediately.
He's a walking DPI if he doesn't make the catch. Double digit targets per game.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:29 PM ^
Wow. Offensive outlook is so much higher with him.
If we had to choose between him and DPJ to come back, is anyone NOT going to take Nico??
January 5th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
DPJ should've come back too. Right now he's probably a Saturday draft pick.
January 5th, 2020 at 8:37 PM ^
Until he kills it at the combine and starts jumping up draft boards. Dude is a physical freak.
January 5th, 2020 at 10:24 PM ^
Hoping they forty yard dash times to bet on with dpj at combine. I don't think he's nearly the freakish athlete many think
January 6th, 2020 at 9:05 AM ^
The physical measurements are not what have been holding DPJ from being great, IMO. It's some of the little things, like the drops, like the will to fight through coverage, etc. that he needs to work on, and would have thought another year at Michigan would have helped him immensely. I wish him well.
January 6th, 2020 at 1:30 PM ^
I will never forgive DPJ for those times he missed the catch for the throw that never came his way.
January 6th, 2020 at 1:42 PM ^
Good athlete. Not as good a football player.
January 7th, 2020 at 2:00 PM ^
So are 8-10 other receivers with much better college production.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
8-10, and more sometimes!!
January 5th, 2020 at 6:46 PM ^
This cant possibly be true. GOMBLOG or whatever the fuck his name is told us everyone hates Harbaugh and can’t wait to escape the sinking ship...
January 5th, 2020 at 11:41 PM ^
Who needs an '/s' when you can just use your brain?
+1 :)
January 5th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
Great news. I felt he was more NFL ready then DPJ. Great to have him back next season
January 5th, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
This seems like kind of a big deal.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:12 PM ^
Awesome. Huge. There’s a chance our offense is great next year.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:24 PM ^
Four new starters on the o line and a new qb seems like long odds for success
But getting Nico back is a huge boost
January 5th, 2020 at 5:40 PM ^
I disagree. First the new QB will be in his 4 year and shown some promise. Firmly believe if he hadn't nearly been decapitated against WI, that was his audition to start. OL recruiting should lead to some optimism. If Filiaga stays, Mayfield and he will make a solid left side. Rumler will be the center. Guessing Hayes has the lead for RT, so the big opening TBD will be RG.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:51 PM ^
Umbig11 said Filiaga is leaving.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:54 PM ^
I’m guessing he ends up being wrong here, or that his info becomes outdated. We will see, just guessing.
January 5th, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
Or that he's not really an insider and just guessing.
January 6th, 2020 at 12:41 AM ^
No, that's not true.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:31 PM ^
Was just told by a player the Filagia is NOT leaving. Who knows?
I would be cautious about Rumler, not sure he’s ready.
January 5th, 2020 at 6:36 PM ^
I thought Filiaga was in line to start next season.
January 5th, 2020 at 7:33 PM ^
Umbig11 lol
January 5th, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
Umbiglol
January 5th, 2020 at 8:52 PM ^
What did Chernobyl say?
January 5th, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
Not saying umbig11 is wrong, because I respect him. But I know a guy who knows a guy and says Big Chuck will be back at Michigan next season. Same guy said Nico would be back this season, as can be evidenced in my posting history. I don’t claim to be an insider by any means, so don’t take my word for it. Just passing along what I hear. Again I’m not an insider, though I wish I was. Haha I wish I got more info about the football team ahead of time. I’m a sucker for some info.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
You know who Calvin Johnson's QB throughout college was? Reggie Ball. Reggie Ball was extremely bad at football.
But Calvin had a QB willing to throw his direction nearly every play. The results were highlight reel catches and some unbelievably good wins. All we need is a QB willing to throw it at Nico a lot, and this will become very fun.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:58 PM ^
Calvin Johnson was also one of the best wide receivers of all time
Nico is really good, but even Minnesota has two wide receivers just as good as he is
January 5th, 2020 at 6:01 PM ^
Good chance Hayes and Stueber grab starting jobs - both have started games here.
We are also pursuing Devery Hamilton, who has started plenty, albeit not here.
If we landed Hamilton, your line could look like Mayfield-Filiaga-Carpenter-Stueber-Hamilton, or Hayes-Hamilton-Carpenter-Stueber-Mayfield. Either way, that would be a pretty experienced line despite technically losing 4 starters.
January 5th, 2020 at 7:30 PM ^
And Ed Warinner is no Darrell Funk. He's been here working with the boys for 2 years now and it's clear that he'll have them ready to play.
January 5th, 2020 at 10:52 PM ^
I think strength and conditioning coaching is better now too.
January 6th, 2020 at 12:38 PM ^
Agree that this is huge and awesome, but I'd put long odds on our offense being great. The line will be largely new, and we should be ok at QB but we don't know that yet.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:13 PM ^
Awesome!
I hooe he and Bell can have huge years in 2020
January 5th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
That is awesome! Now let's get him the targets he deserves.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:15 PM ^
Nico is staying and DPJ is leaving. Just as we all predicted!
January 5th, 2020 at 5:36 PM ^
Not a gambler but I would have bet the opposite as well every single time. I guess I’m missing something with DPJ. I’d take Nico all day.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:41 PM ^
DPJ added a little speed on the sweeps and handled punt returns, but yeah, Nico as a downfield threat is probably more valuable overall
January 5th, 2020 at 6:07 PM ^
I did think Nico was the most likely to return. He’s just not the type of receiver that is in demand in the league right now. He will play in the league, don’t get me wrong, but the 6’4 220 leapers are a bit out of style.
DPJ, despite lack of production, does have good things on film, and his combine performance alone will probably boost his stock 10-20 picks. A lot more demand for a 6’2 210 guy that runs a 4.4 than there is for a 6’4 220 guy that runs a 4.55 or 4.6.
Plus, once Tarik left, even if DPJ was 50/50 about returning, that probably pushed him to go. Those two are super tight, and he probably didn’t want to stay in school of Tarik wasn’t with him.
January 6th, 2020 at 10:05 AM ^
Funny thing, I actually commented in the Tarik Black transfer portal thread that this probably means DPJ is gone for the draft. But I definitely thought Nico was joining him, just based off of his production.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:16 PM ^
was on the field a couple of times this year and both he and t. black are way bigger than you'd think - they are like joe milton but even smoother and faster in their running. basically tight-end sized receivers who can get up in the air.
good for us, and i hope it is a great decision for the kid.
January 5th, 2020 at 9:05 PM ^
Are you sure you're not just small?
Michigan's roster doesn't list them as being especially large, and we know from McCray that the roster usually gives guys an extra inch or two.
January 5th, 2020 at 9:48 PM ^
larger than average - played tight end at 250+ for 15 yrs after college.
and i agree re: how michigan's roster listed them as opposed to how they appear up close, thus the reason i mentioned it in the first place. those guys carry more weight in their legs than you think, and they are taller than me.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:17 PM ^
YEEEEEEET!!
January 5th, 2020 at 5:18 PM ^
Each guy makes his own choices. So there’s no telling why DPJ goes and Nico stays.
But it might matter that DPJ’s draft profile will rely on his measurables. His lower production this year can be easily explained, and he’s shown quality in other years.
Nico, probably, won’t test as well. He needs game film, and next year gives him a great chance to produce more of it. He has the potential to be a dominant 70-catch type, which is top 3 round material.
Just a guess.
January 5th, 2020 at 5:29 PM ^
I still sort of wonder how Nico will be as an NFL receiver. His jump ball skills are obviously great, but I'm not sure how his speed or route running will do in the league.
