Shit hand to be dealt for the kid. Very proud of Harbaugh and the University to honor the scholarship.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:03 PM ^
Saban and so many others sure don't do this. Proud of my school.

When a player at Alabama is disqualified for medical reasons, they can stay on a “medical” scholarship and get a free education at Alabama. If JD’s scholarship counted towards the 85 limit and it was still being honored, that would be really special, but I don’t know of another situation where a kid had to retire from football before getting to campus. I imagine most schools would still honor the scholarship.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:49 PM ^
I’m not at all convinced that Nick Saban would honor a scholarship to a kid who had never set foot in Tuscaloosa.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:54 PM ^
It'll be the same situation as Austin Hatch. He didn't count against the scholarship limit

Sorry to hear that for the young man. JD you still ha e a bright future. Earn your UM degree and do great things in life. You will always be a Michigan man
October 30th, 2019 at 5:27 PM ^
That sucks, but I'm thankful that he found out this news now, instead of after something awful happened on the playing field. I think it also speaks highly of our program that it's not a surprise that his scholarship is being honored.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:27 PM ^
Unfortunate. Luckily, our QB room is looking good between Milton, Mcnamara, and Mccarthy
October 30th, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
Jenny McCarthy? That is a good looking qb room.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:40 PM ^
Nah don't need the team getting measles
October 30th, 2019 at 5:59 PM ^
"measles"
October 30th, 2019 at 9:32 PM ^
I'd gladly contract them. All over my balls. 15 years ago at least.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:38 PM ^
I hope Milton sticks it out. I'd love to see him as a RS Junior and Senior throwing explosive footballs in the Big House.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
Same.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:42 PM ^
Yes. It used to be looked at as trolling or being way too negative to suggest a current player may transfer. But it's becoming just a fact, especially at QB, that the #2 leaves.
October 31st, 2019 at 2:21 AM ^
You had me at "explosive footballs."
October 30th, 2019 at 5:31 PM ^
This is a far better argument than "10 wins!" for why we should keep Harbaugh.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:23 PM ^
It's also a reminder that even though he never got to fulfill his football-playing dreams, Grant Newsome may have a bright future away from football after he finishes his work as a graduate assistant coach for the Wolverines and completes his Master's degree program in the Ford School of Public Policy. Jim Harbaugh always has supported Grant's completion of his academic career. And that's the Michigan Difference!
October 30th, 2019 at 7:10 PM ^
I'd like it if he sent out this story to all recruit parents. The same ones he sent out the 'total crap' note to last week.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:33 PM ^
Holy shit I was not expecting to read that today.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:34 PM ^
Damn! Poor guy, glad his scholarship is being honored and glad he is making a good decision for his health.
That said, I hope they're out beating the bushes for another QB.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:35 PM ^
Holy Fuck, we better start recruiting QBs at a high level......
October 30th, 2019 at 5:38 PM ^
That’s your takeaway from this news?
October 30th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
Yes, time to sharpen the pick.
It sounds like the kid landed on his feet quite nicely, and now doesn't need to worry about a ruptured aorta anymore. Instead of playing football, he can chill and bang bitches like a normal college dude.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:32 PM ^
I mean, don’t the players already do that?
Chill and party that is.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
A very shallow and callous take
October 31st, 2019 at 7:41 AM ^
seriously?!
October 30th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
I'm sure any human would have sympathy for the kid. But, any football fan would also have concern over the recruiting hole this leaves at the most important position this late in the recruiting cycle. This is obviously a less than ideal situation and it's not unreasonable to discuss the recruiting impact.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to post and prove that you're an asshole
October 30th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
Name checks out 234 cuz you aint the 1.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:55 PM ^
Is that the Rick James version?
October 30th, 2019 at 5:36 PM ^
He was heavily featured on QB1 - I believe he has a future in coaching football. I’m sorry that his playing career is over. Best wishes to him, and how cool that he gets to have his scholarship honored!
October 30th, 2019 at 7:58 PM ^
Did anyone else think Rattler was a huge dick to him unnecessarily? Kind of got Malik Henry vibes from that guy.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:19 PM ^
Yes, I thought the exact same thing.
October 31st, 2019 at 5:06 PM ^
thank you for pointing that out. I watched and thought man I'm glad we didn't get this kid (Rattler) he was such a pompous asshole and generally treated him like shit as well as everyone else on the team. I found the episode where they got into it about how Spencer treated him and always spoke down to him to be really telling. The kid was spot on and I was happy to see him call Rattler out but disappointed when he backed down and said he was joking when it got to a pretty tense point. It's like they say "there is always some truth to every joke". Spencer Rattler is a grade A douche bag and someone I will root against for the rest of my time on earth.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:37 PM ^
This is the kind of stuff that I really, really like about Harbaugh. Don't know if many other universities would still honor that commitment.
November 1st, 2019 at 4:11 PM ^
A class move all the way - 11 Warriors is praising this as well.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:41 PM ^
Whoa. Best of luck to the kid. Glad they caught it now. Sucks for him.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
That really stinks. I feel for the kid. I'm happy that he'll be part of the coaching staff, the very least. Good on Coach Harbaugh to follow through on the scholarship!
October 30th, 2019 at 5:51 PM ^
I feel bad for the kid but very proud of Harbaugh’s reaction. Class move coach.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:12 PM ^
Yep. Class act to honor the scholarship offer. Makes the Hudson decision more puzzling.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:21 PM ^
What puzzles you about the “Hudson decision”? Do you know facts that we don’t know?
October 30th, 2019 at 7:39 PM ^
I think the writings on the wall with the Hudson thing even if no one wants to come out and say it. To be clear Harbaugh wasn’t wrong in my opinion.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
Hudson claimed no one at Michigan helped him. All Michigan said was that he never made anyone aware there was a problem. These are two completely separate incidents.
October 30th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
A young kid just wants to move on with his life. He's not a 50+ year old with the experience and wisdom to know better. Let the kid go and move on. I thought you guys were supposed to be better than that?
October 30th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Your empathy knows no bounds. Did you defend Maurice Clarrett when the coaches, university, and fans completely forsake him, his life then spiraled out of control, and nobody would listen to his story of how he was used by Tressel and the OSU program?
Don't worry...we never thought you guys were better than that.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:39 PM ^
Yes, I did support him as a matter of FACT. Once Jim Brown, Jesse Jackson, etc, got involved, I knew the kid was at the mercy of the old guys just furthering their own agendas. No father growing up in Youngstown. How is a kid supposed to handle that?
And look what the guy has become. He travels and speaks as a motivational speaker in prisons, AA groups, etc and uses himself as the example of what can happen to people and how they can rebuild their lives. Tough gig. I have great respect for that.
Honestly, Terrelle Pryor, you have me there. But then, you guys recruited him too. You guys were the lucky ones.......
October 31st, 2019 at 7:40 AM ^
Time to flush the cooler.
October 31st, 2019 at 8:56 AM ^
And how did that turn out? I heard mr clarets out of prison now so that’s good.
