UM offers 2020 4* QB CJ Stroud
He was the Elite 11 MVP and is the top uncommitted QB in the country.

Huge if true.

THATS WHAT SHE SAID
October 30th, 2019 at 5:50 PM ^
Sadly, however, that was *untrue.
*Based on personal experience, of course.

Who's "she"?
October 30th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
He meant "he".

Never not funny, evergreen
October 30th, 2019 at 6:32 PM ^
how is offering a kid "huge"?
October 30th, 2019 at 7:09 PM ^
All of his balls say OSU. Maybe use the spot for a DL or DB recruit.
October 30th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
Gonna be close to impossible to pull a great replacement for JD with such little time left. Then add McCaffrey / Milton in the wings and perhaps the #1 QB for 2021 committed it does create some issues. But as always....lets hope and Go Blue.
October 31st, 2019 at 8:50 AM ^
We need a QB in this class. Go after him hard and see where it shakes out come February
October 30th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
If we get his commitment, do we call ourselves "The Stroud Crowd"?
October 30th, 2019 at 5:53 PM ^
No. Until McNamara is gone we are the Cade Brigade.

If we get alcohol at the Big House, do we call ourselves "The Stroh'd Crowd"?
October 30th, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
Hopefully if we get alcohol in the Big House it's something better than Stroh's.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
The Patterson Patrol.
October 30th, 2019 at 5:54 PM ^
Makes sense after the sad JD news. Need at least 1 QB every class.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:00 PM ^
Disagree!
-Brady Hoke
October 30th, 2019 at 6:46 PM ^
Good ol' Hoke didn't want QB recruits to feel threatened by another QB recruit and walk, so he took only one. In fact, didn't he neglect to take a QB during one of his recruiting classes?
October 30th, 2019 at 7:02 PM ^
Uh...that would be yes. Brady's QB recruiting can only be compared to RichRod's OL recruiting.
October 30th, 2019 at 9:04 PM ^
Or compared to both RichRod or Hoke being hired.
October 30th, 2019 at 9:27 PM ^
had to be worse,
October 30th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
I understand the overall philosophy - but is it really necessary this particular recruiting year? Consider what we have "in the pipeline":
Redshirt Freshman Joe Milton - Raw, but the athleticism and arm strength are incredible. Could be a star for 2-3 years.
True Freshman Cade McNamara - Currently looking up at McCaffrey and Milton for 2020-2021, at least at this stage. But also strong potential.
2021 Committ JJ McCarthy - One of our highest ranked high school QB recruits ever, Top 30 overall player on most if not all the notable websites. Helped recruit receiver AJ Henning for the 2020 class - don't see him decommiting.
Know that "shit happens" - but feels like this one time we would be fine by moving on from a 2020 QB recruit.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
Injuries and transfers happen. We absolutely should be taking a 2020 QB recruit. What if Milton decides he wants to start somewhere? What if McNamara gets homesick? McCaffrey has been injured in both seasons where he has played QB (and wasn't even starting). QB is not a position to bank a scholarship on because of someone an entire year away from (likely) coming.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:50 PM ^
You can never have enough QBs. Ask the 2017 Michigan Wolverines, who lost to Wisconsin and OSU because they didn't have a 3rd string QB better than John O'Korn, in part because of shit recruiting by Brady Hoke's staff. Or the 2012 Wolverines, who blew a game against Nebraska because they had a running QB and they couldn't find a backup better than Russell Bellomy. You may see the same thing happen to OSU if Fields ever gets hurt this year, and that's why they are limiting his running opportunities.
Let's say that McNamara doesn't pan out, or maybe develops health issues, or transfers if he loses a QB battle to Milton. If you don't bring in a 2020 QB, now you may find yourself in three years with a RS senior Milton (who himself is a bit of a project), redshirt freshman JJ McCarthy, and whatever true freshman comes in in 2022. That's a pretty questionable QB room, and it's an injury away from torpedoing a season.
In short, ALWAYS take a QB.
October 31st, 2019 at 1:09 PM ^
No, we should take a QB. You're right that we'll be fine if bad things don't happen, but unlike CB or WR you can't just move a guy to QB if you have injuries. If we don't take a 2020 QB, we'll only have 3 scholarship QBs on the roster in 2020 and only 3 non-frosh in 2021. If one of those guys gets hurt or transfers or turns out to be no good, we're in a tough spot. We don't want to be in a tough spot.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
Do not want unless he changes his last name to McStroud
October 30th, 2019 at 6:25 PM ^
Good.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:47 PM ^
Guy is #4 Pro Style QB, has an offer and 100% CB to OSU on 247, however they already have a commit from Jack Miller, who is #10 Pro Style. Conventional wisdom says only one will sign, however based on recent history they'll probably both go to OSU and split the Heisman
October 30th, 2019 at 6:56 PM ^
And somehow become the first QB duo to each throw a TD on the same play.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:44 PM ^
To each other
October 30th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
I guess I was too slow on that one.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
"And somehow become the first QB duo to each throw a TD on the same play" TO EACH OTHER! (You might've forgotten something at the end of the sentence.)

I wonder if the staff takes a look at Harrison Bailey again who’s committed to Tennessee since they’re tanking.
October 31st, 2019 at 12:57 AM ^
That was my first thought, but idk if he's as suited for a spread system as he was our old "pro-style".
I think Anthony Romphf is an absolute baller and could flourish in a spread system. He can run very well and spins it as well as anyone in the country. Ranked lower, probably because of his height and weight. I have to believe we would have a shot with him if we want.
October 30th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Thought this might be some good news until I visited 247 and found that he has 5 crystal balls all for OSU. Shit!
October 30th, 2019 at 6:53 PM ^
October 30th, 2019 at 6:59 PM ^
OSU is trying to sign two QB’s so they definitely want Stroud. Also working against us is his personal QB trainer is Quincy Avery, who previously coached Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields.
October 30th, 2019 at 7:24 PM ^
Yeah, that wont work in our favor
October 30th, 2019 at 9:34 PM ^
Haskins sucks. If you ain’t there to play school you should at least learn how to read a defense. Every one should play zone against OSU, their QB’s can’t read zone. Haskins is a bust. He will hanging with Cardale soon.
October 30th, 2019 at 10:02 PM ^
Lol omg so much stupid in one post lol. Yea, no D played zone against him as he re wrote our conference record books (rolls eyes). You sound as dumb as Paul Finebaum talking up the SEC. Haskins destroyed us and every other defense and thankfully got drafted and won’t be on the field this year. You don’t have to celebrate the generational talent of an opposing QB but saying they suck is just ignorant
October 30th, 2019 at 10:11 PM ^
Dude chill out. It's not like he threw a ton of 5 yards slants to 4.2 wrs or anything. He can't read a defense and processes things slowly. He will be an awful NFL qb...but it's also true that he was fantastic in college.
October 30th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
I think I'm in the majority here about not really caring about his professional career. He destroyed the entire Big Ten. I'll gladly take a train of dominant college QBs who don't end up becoming the second coming of Tom Brady. Tim Tebow would work just fine.
October 31st, 2019 at 9:28 AM ^
He destroyed the entire Big Ten.
He did, but I would argue that was just as much about the talent around him compared to the talent on the other side of the ball as it was about how good he actually was.
October 31st, 2019 at 11:03 AM ^
That worked for us with Bob Timberlake, our QB back in 1964. Heisman candidate after a great year, but no success as a pro. Which goes to show how hard it is to predict success at the next level.
October 31st, 2019 at 5:06 AM ^
I know you’re just repeating what you overheard someone else say and want to sound cool so I let it slide.
With that being said you’re 1. Wrong about 5 yards slants being the only passes he threw. 2. You should probably know that on a 5 yard slant, the QB reads the defense
Tuen off ESPN, the hot takes you hear there and repeat here, while applying them to his college career are laughable. Be glad he is gone, he wasn’t killing us with 5 yard slants
October 30th, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
Calm down, guys. You’re both right.
Haskins did have an amazing season last year.
Also, NFL defensive coordinators did reveal how to confuse Haskins... by running more zone looks against him.
October 31st, 2019 at 12:27 AM ^
Hmmmm...Michigan could do just that...against a certain Justin Fields.
Now, who to tell this information?
