Michigan 2020 Football Recruiting Board
I haven't seen a full recruiting update recently and it's been a while since we've had a commit so I figure it would be good to get a refresher of our class as it looks now and who we are still recruiting
Current Class:
QB: 1 (JD Johnson)
- All set
RB: 1 (Blake Corum)
- Still courting Lawrence Toafili (currently committed to FSU). I believe they're aiming for at least one more back in this class.
- Corum is having a monster senior year.
WR: 2 (AJ Henning, Roman Wilson)
- Long time target, Brenden Rice, recently committed to Colorado. There's been rumblings of Michigan reaching out to Theo Howard, a transfer out of UCLA who would have 2 more years of eligibility left. I expect Michigan wants at least one more WR
- Both Henning and Wilson are having excellent senior seasons
TE: 2 (Nick Patterson, Matthew Hibner)
- Theo Johnson is the big fish here. Seems like Patterson may flip to another school as he hasn't visited Michigan in a while and has been visiting other schools. But it's possible that if Michigan misses on Johnson, Patterson sticks with his commitment.
- Hibner is this year's McKeon/Schoonmaker
OL: 4 (Zak Zinter, Jeffrey Persi, Reece Atteberry, Micah Mazzccua)
- In addition to recruiting Andrew Gentry, Michigan has also sent out recent offers to 2 more OT prospects in James Pogorelc and Cayden Baker. Seems like they want at least one more true OT prospect. If they do manage to land Gentry, I wouldn't be surprised if they still take one more tackle since Gentry is likely to take a 2-year mission trip out of high school
ATH: 1 (Eamonn Dennis)
- I didn't know where to put him. He's similar to Sainristil and likely to play WR. But I wouldn't be surprised if Michigan tries him out at RB or CB as well
DL: 4 (Braiden McGregor, Kris Jenkins, Aaron Lewis)
- Main target here seems to be Jaylen Harrell, a WDE out of Florida who is visiting Ann Arbor for the ND game. Battling with FSU and Miami in his recruitment
- McGregor is out for the season but enrolling early. Jenkins has been blowing up. He's likely headed to either SDE or DT, though he has to put on some weight before he gets to that point. Lewis is SDE/DT
LB: 5 (Kalel Mullings, Osman Savage, Nikhai Hill-Green, Cornell Wheeler, William Mohan (Viper))
- All set
S: 3 (RJ Moten, Jordan Morant, Makari Paige)
- All set
- Morant has been taking visits. Definitely a position we can afford to have a decommit but would be good to keep him in the class. Seems like Michigan should try to get him back on campus asap
CB: 1 (Andre Seldon)
- Main target is Darion Green-Warren (visiting for OSU game). Other option is Malcolm Greene, though he has some crystal balls for LSU recently

Just think how many new guys will be on board after we run the table.
October 17th, 2019 at 4:27 PM ^
Bandwagon jumpers!
October 17th, 2019 at 4:39 PM ^
Or we have a new coaching staff
October 17th, 2019 at 4:55 PM ^
Now that's just ignorant and stupid.
October 17th, 2019 at 4:57 PM ^
Keep your bro on board, Shea!
October 17th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
this would have been true last year had M beat osu, now the recruiting is going down the pooper, especially after lose 3-4 more games this year
October 17th, 2019 at 4:23 PM ^
Thanks for consolidating the info. Upvote for you!
October 17th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
Yes, this was well done and enjoyable. I would like to see his take on the likely class size.
October 17th, 2019 at 5:53 PM ^
At the moment we are at 23. I’m guessing by the end this class will be around 27/28, which would be in line with how Harbaugh recruits in most classes.
Currently, we are at 84 scholarships according to the depth chart by class tab. Take Muhammad out and that becomes 83. If accurate, we have space for 2 more people officially and then some with attrition and early draft people.
October 17th, 2019 at 7:21 PM ^
Going to need double digit attrition at 23.
October 17th, 2019 at 4:25 PM ^
Thank you for this!!
How do we feel about CB recruiting?
October 17th, 2019 at 5:18 PM ^
Not great
October 17th, 2019 at 5:49 PM ^
That’s what I was worried about
October 17th, 2019 at 4:32 PM ^
A true DT would be nice for this class. Hopefully Hibner is more Schoonmaker than McKeon as well.

Jordan Morant, from Oradell, New Jersey’s Bergen Catholic HS (coached by Vito Campanile whose brother Anthony is on Michigan’s coaching staff and whose brother Nunzio is interim head coach at Rutgers and was head coach at Bergen Catholic before this season) is out for the season with a broken foot suffered in late September. LINK
If Nunzio is retained by whoever becomes the new head coach at Rutgers after the season, then the Campanile family's Christmas reunion could get to be very interesting this year.
October 17th, 2019 at 5:12 PM ^
That is a family that likes Italian names.
October 17th, 2019 at 8:18 PM ^
Just imagine what it might've been like for Michigan Assistant Coach Anthony Campanile in his family's household on Wednesdays if, instead of living in northern New Jersey, he'd been growing up in the North End of Boston.

Such a great commercial

Henry, you're a good kid. I've been good to you. You've been good to me. But there's something quite unreasonable going on here. Jimmy's being an unconscionable ball-breaker. I never had to pay the vigorous debt he demands. Am I something special? What am I? A schmuck on wheels?
October 17th, 2019 at 4:56 PM ^
Excellent work in this. I'm thinking it should be a diary entry. Pin it, baby!
October 17th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
What happened with Kenny Mestidor?
October 17th, 2019 at 5:05 PM ^
I really thought Green-Warren committed somewhere else...we definitely need another CB
October 17th, 2019 at 5:07 PM ^
Is Theo Johnson being recruited as a WR or TE ? Kid is like Funchess no?
October 17th, 2019 at 5:20 PM ^
Everything I've seen is about TE. He's 6'5" and weighs 245, according to Rivals. They and 247 list him as a TE.
October 17th, 2019 at 5:43 PM ^
You’re thinking of Maliq Carr. He’s about 6’4 230 and Michigan was recruiting him as a TE. However Carr wants to be a WR and recently committed to Purdue.
October 17th, 2019 at 5:18 PM ^
One running back isn't nearly enough. I'd think they'd want to try for two more.
October 17th, 2019 at 5:23 PM ^
Charbonnet, Turner, and Hasskins are all back next year. Its not ideal but there are other spots, like say cornerback, that need a lot more focus
October 17th, 2019 at 6:34 PM ^
Chris Evans may be back, as well.
October 17th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
We return every back next season. Possibly adding Chris Evans back as well. We’re VERY young at running back. Adding more than one is a luxury at this point. Definitely not a necessity.
October 17th, 2019 at 5:41 PM ^
One DT? and numbers are already low at that position....smart
October 17th, 2019 at 6:04 PM ^
DT for this staff is like LB under Lloyd. They don't land players. They convert smaller players from other positions to bulk up to play the position.
October 17th, 2019 at 6:21 PM ^
I don’t get it! Don Brown’s defense counts on dt’s that can disrupt the Oline! They got their tails handed to them by Wisconsin. Kemp is a man, but outmanned by that Line! The lesson should be there about getting at least one true DT every class, not the sde/dt tweener hoping one grows into DT!
Our best defenses always have DT/DLine rotation!
October 17th, 2019 at 7:15 PM ^
The plan has been to go after elite DT recruits (Hinton/Mazi) and convert SDE types into DT types. Getting more of an end and bulking him up would theoretically get you a DT with some pass rush upside.
October 17th, 2019 at 6:31 PM ^
Frustrating lack of D Tackles. Wonder if they could at the very least recruit 2nd tier OL that could convert to DT if they truly are having trouble recruiting true DTs?
October 17th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
October 17th, 2019 at 7:18 PM ^
So you think it’s a better plan to convert 2nd tier OL to DT than the staff’s current plan to convert SDE into DT...
Come on. The coaching staff knows what they’re doing. They’re not ignoring DT recruiting with no plans.
October 17th, 2019 at 7:28 PM ^
They have ignored dt recruiting with no plans the last few years. Did Harbaugh not think that he fucked up when Ben Mason was starting at DT in August?
October 17th, 2019 at 7:48 PM ^
Where are those guys then?
October 17th, 2019 at 7:21 PM ^
Or go after some transfers
October 17th, 2019 at 6:44 PM ^
Thanks Mr. Squirrel, we appreciate the legwork. Some questions:
1. Is Myles Hinton just a pipe dream?
2. Any chance of Denver Warren de-de-committing?
3. Kenny Mestidor? According to 247 Michigan and "undecided" are tied.
October 17th, 2019 at 7:15 PM ^
I dont know how you can struggle this much at the university of michigan to add a decent dt and cb in this class. Recruiting has fallen off. We didnt take enough dts in the previous classes and we are paying for it this year. Cb will turn out the same way.
October 17th, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
Thanks for very informative post OP! Been thinking about the whole recruiting thing this week. Just so we beat out MSU!
October 17th, 2019 at 10:37 PM ^
Damn, we need at least 2 more elite defensive tackles/nose guards. That spot is so thin.
