Apologies for lack of detail/edits. Looks like Stueber will miss at least a month. Heal quickly. Mayfield next man up
August 15th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
a month would be fine. hopefully it's nothing too structural.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:02 PM ^
Always wanted Mayfield to win the RT job. Not like this though. Hoping for a quick recovery and no need to play anyone other than Mayfield there other than garbage time.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:18 PM ^
Wouldn't you want the best player to win the job? Unless you are related to Mayfield.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:30 PM ^
No, I see Mayfield as the player with the higher upside and would prefer to see him in action sooner than later. And doesn't saying "win the job" imply that Mayfield would've been the better player?
August 15th, 2019 at 3:56 PM ^
Why would anybody neg this??? I upvoted you.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:05 PM ^
yikes, hopefully he recovers quickly!
August 15th, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
I heard season ending from a friend text. Hope that's an overreaction.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
Lorenz just says "a while" but does not confirm season ending
August 16th, 2019 at 8:26 AM ^
Sounds like a sprained knee ligament
August 15th, 2019 at 1:06 PM ^
Fingers crossed for nothing serious because even if he ended up the starter or not, the OL depth takes a blow if he is out for extended time.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:11 PM ^
Pretty hard to have a season ending knee injury wearing the braces they do. I doubt it’s season ending.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:14 PM ^
Tell that to Newsome. :(((((
August 15th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
Newsome wasn't wearing a brace. He is the reason that Harbaugh started making the entire OL wear them, though...
August 15th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
Braces became mandatory because of Grant's injury, iirc. After injury.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:50 PM ^
I’m surprised it’s even “significant”, those braces are super tough. Had to be a very freak injury - hard to even speculate on how.
August 15th, 2019 at 5:50 PM ^
They definitely do help guard against/mitigate a majority of the soft-tissue tears, but you could still get a patellar fracture (contact or non-contact), tear the quadriceps tendon, or fracture the tibial surface (femur too technically, but that is extremely rare), or aggravate the meniscus.
August 15th, 2019 at 6:10 PM ^
Not to mention knee braces have a hard time preventing tibial rotation and they only protect certain angles of knee flexion as well as limited angles of external force.
August 15th, 2019 at 2:16 PM ^
That’s so clickbait. No one has any idea if it’s season ending.
August 15th, 2019 at 4:44 PM ^
Isn't Burchfield a staff writer for 97.1? That might explain it....
August 15th, 2019 at 1:13 PM ^
Obviously injuries are never good, especially to a guy competing for a starting spot, but Mayfield will be a really good RT. It hurts depth and sucks that one of the 6 guys we felt comfortable starting is out, but luckily for the first time in a while we have the depth to take this hit.
If it is only a start of season injury/not season ending then it's not the end of the world. Get him healthy and keep the rest of the starters healthy through the start of the season (which shouldn't be too daunting) and we'll be fine.
August 15th, 2019 at 2:02 PM ^
A real shame for Andrew. But, we really don't need a right tackle. We will simply run to the left.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:16 PM ^
I guess this is a good reason not to throw a fit and transfer for playing time? Not talking about anyone specifically, but.. oh whatever, yes I am.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
Yeah. Sans temper tantrum, there may not have even been a RT battle this Fall...
August 15th, 2019 at 2:00 PM ^
Dammit Nolan Ulizio!
August 16th, 2019 at 8:29 AM ^
Sir I applaud you use of sarcasm.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
Really sucks, but at one spot where we can afford ONE injury. Hope he is back by October to restore the OT depth we had, and that everyone else stays healthy in the mean time.
August 15th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
That really sucks though... we haven't played a game and we are down two players to injury. We can't have nice things...
August 15th, 2019 at 1:21 PM ^
Uh.
Oh.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:24 PM ^
Crap on a popsicle stick!
August 15th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
This sucks. But, over the years, there is always one or two injuries in fall camp. It's just inevitable. You always have to hope the injuries aren't severe. In this case, signs are positive it isn't. If Stueber is the only player we lost for part of the season, we'll be doing well I think.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:32 PM ^
Ambry Thomas...
August 15th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
But we already lost Quintel Kent and Ambry Thomas, and Dwumfour is questionable with his torn plantar fascia :(
August 15th, 2019 at 1:52 PM ^
Dwumfour missed a couple of days in camp, but he is getting close.
DPJ still might be limited to start the season.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:26 PM ^
Ouch! Heal quick big fella.
Some were bound to happen, but at least OL has the depth finally to absorb it.
Might be a blessing, he was weighing more than you want at tackle so a lesser injury now rather than something bigger in season.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
Big opportunity for Mayfield to get full run with the 1s and have a month to ease into the role before Wisconsin.
August 15th, 2019 at 1:45 PM ^
Ouch. Not good. Heal quick young man. Lets hope it's the month variety vs long term.

Mayfield will man up. OL will step up and be Jim's best to date.

August 15th, 2019 at 3:00 PM ^
Hope for the quick recovery, Andrew!
May the next man suit up on the field!!
August 15th, 2019 at 3:08 PM ^
Injuries are never good, but the team can deal with this so long as Mayfield and Runyan stay healthy before he's able to return.
August 15th, 2019 at 3:19 PM ^
I wasn't aware he was so controversial. I will delete the comment.
August 15th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
Nothing against you, enzo, but yoder isn't exactly a reliable source.
August 15th, 2019 at 6:52 PM ^
August 15th, 2019 at 3:34 PM ^
Don't listen to Yoder. Don't report what he speculates. He has no inside info.
August 15th, 2019 at 3:35 PM ^
Better be careful. My old username was banned for citing Yoder as a source.
August 15th, 2019 at 3:38 PM ^
Nothing unexoected. You can figure every year that whoever you have penciled in as starters, at least 1 or 2 will be unavailable by the time the season starts, or shortly after.
