Harbaugh: Rumler "arguably best player in the class"
Harbaugh did a signing day interview with TMI. One quote stood out. When discussing top recruits in Michigan's class, Harbaugh said that Nolan Rumler is arguably the best player in this class.
Also says that Dax has the possibility to be one of the best safeties Michigan has had.

Fuck yeah! Go Blue!
This class is the start of great offensive lines year after year.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:08 PM ^
That's exactly what people here said about:
Kyle Bosch
Chris Fox
Patrick Kugler
Logan Tuley-Tilman
Dan Samuelson
David Dawson
Back in 2013.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
Yeah and look who recruited those guys.
December 22nd, 2018 at 4:33 PM ^
And who developed them.
And who's developing this year's batch.
December 22nd, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
I love reading Harbaugh's focus on the families and the men's attitudes and ethics. Looking at the numbers, we're not sacrificing size, strength, skill, or speed for it, either.
People who were looking for a common thread on the transfers: yes, all those guys were injured, lost places, etc. But many other guys have been injured or moved down the depth chart. Maybe the common thread has been attitude more than injury, and sassing more than slighting.

No one was worried about that back in 2013 either. And when Harbaugh started with Tim Drevno as OL coach, everyone on this board was raving about the return of "manball". We all know how that worked out. The hype has worn out. Only results on the field against real competition matter.
December 22nd, 2018 at 11:34 PM ^
This is the critical point. Funk made guys worse. Warrinner makes them better.

Reminder that DeepBlueC is a Sparty troll
December 22nd, 2018 at 4:26 PM ^
Yes, keep saying that nonsense if it makes you feel better. But we both know that what I said is true.
December 22nd, 2018 at 6:39 PM ^
Thanks. I had forgotten.
This is another thing that can be added in the paid/premium version of the site:
Ability to add a label to other users that always appears under their name in their comments/posts, so that we don't forget important things like this ^^^
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
"People here," (presumably the board) saying someone is a potentially great player is different than Coach Harbaugh saying it.
December 22nd, 2018 at 4:27 PM ^
Harbaugh didn't say "This class is the start of great offensive lines year after year". Someone on this board did, and that's what I was responding to. Try to keep up.
December 22nd, 2018 at 6:44 PM ^
But what did Harbaugh say about those guys?
December 22nd, 2018 at 9:18 AM ^
Re dax he said same thing about Ruiz at center .
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:28 AM ^
You being an ass hat? Or are you being constructive?
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:29 AM ^
Is this still not true? What am I missing?
December 23rd, 2018 at 10:15 AM ^
Are you implying that Ruiz isn't doing well? He was only a sophomore this year, as an O-lineman I think his best years are still ahead.
December 22nd, 2018 at 9:20 AM ^
Rumler was kind of forgotten because he committed so early and I’m not sure he did a lot of camps after his commitment. He was near 5* range in the early rankings.
December 22nd, 2018 at 9:22 AM ^
Anticipated to be in the two deep by fall camp and quite possibly top 6 or 7.
December 22nd, 2018 at 9:33 AM ^
Considering the interior was a strength and arguably the best it's been since the days of David molk AND no one graduated, that is a hell of a statement.
December 22nd, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^
Can you see big Mike being pushed for RG?
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:06 AM ^
By Rumler? I'll say no. Onwenu will have two solid years of playing/starting experience, and Rumler is fresh out of his high school prom. He's good, but he's not experienced against P5 competition and can't even spell 'playbook' yet. Perspective!
Onwenu may well be pushed by Stueber, or one of the other interior OL that pushed a little last season. But not by Rumler...
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:38 AM ^
Isn't Rumler going to be playing Center?
December 22nd, 2018 at 11:09 AM ^
I think it's a possibility, seeing that "center" should be easier to spell than ''playbook".
December 22nd, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
To be fair, if he's still using the "sound it out" method I could say where "playbuk" would be a reasonable attempt .
December 22nd, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
It's a great "problem" to have here. The current plan, per Harbaugh, is to have Carpenter be the center for this class. This would be a real coup-being able to free up Rumler to wreak destruction at the point of attack.
Otherwise, there are questionable 5*****, Daxton is not one of them.
December 22nd, 2018 at 6:51 PM ^
Yes, there was talk about him playing center.
December 23rd, 2018 at 11:24 AM ^
I wasn't trying to imply Rumbler, but someone in general. I have read somewhere that if anyone could lose their spot on the line it was Onwenu.. correct me if I am wrong though I though he played fairly well this year.
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:07 AM ^
That kid is already built like a mauler. (Middle)

he a thicc boi
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:44 AM ^
Looks like a Wisconsin OL!
December 22nd, 2018 at 11:45 AM ^
Looks like a Michigan o lineman!
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:58 AM ^
OMG sleeveless
December 22nd, 2018 at 11:53 AM ^
There was talk somewhere about moving Mike to NT given our shortage there and the relatively high number of decent to good interior offensive linemen we have. If Filiaga or Spanellis was steps up or if Rumler is that good, seems like it might be worth a shot. Also, I think Justin Boren (may he be accursed forever) started as a freshman and played well, so it is not unheard of.
December 22nd, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
1. Magnus wrote that he would like to see Onwenu at NT. That's the one thing that would make sense to move Rumler into the starting OL. Coaches may decide the need at NT outweighs the need at OL with good options to step in for Onwenu.
2. Mason Cole also started as a true Freshman, IIRC.
December 22nd, 2018 at 12:34 PM ^
I feel like moving ANY of our OL away from their position to try to learn a whole new side of the game would be incredibly stupid and short sighted. Whoever else would be NT now cannot be worse than a converted O-lineman who has never played the position at the college level.
We've been on a long walk through the desert with the OL over the past decade - don't fuck with it now that it's finally working.
December 22nd, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
Sometimes flipping works. Winovich comes to mind.
December 22nd, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
Not his senior year though, right? After starting at a position for 2 years.
December 22nd, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
This idea is the equivalent of moving Chase back to TE his senior year.
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
Agreed. Let's take the luxury of having a decent, stable OL and redshirt these guys. It will really pay off a few years down the road.
December 22nd, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
A two-year starter at RG is not moving to defense his senior year so he can play 20 snaps/game on running downs and go undrafted.
December 23rd, 2018 at 7:13 AM ^
I'm sure it's not purposeful, but that's a slight misrepresentation of what I said here (LINK).
I said it was an idea I might explore. Onwenu has struggled at offensive guard, we need help at nose tackle, and I always thought Onwenu was a better NT prospect than OL prospect.
December 24th, 2018 at 12:02 PM ^
I was referencing what you wrote on this blog, commenting on Brian's "Exit Aubrey Solomon:" "Well, if I had my druthers, Mike Onwenu would be playing NT already. That's an obvious fix, IMO, and I don't think Onwenu is irreplaceable at RG."
December 22nd, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
So Mike is about to be senior and move him? I hope not.
He prolly has aspirations of going pro. Ya think? And moving him his senior year after being a 2 year starter(?) at his position strikes me as the wrong thing to do, both for him and the team.
Put the coaching time in on Mazi or Chris.
December 22nd, 2018 at 1:17 PM ^
I defer to Doug Skene in all things O line. His only nitpicks of big Mike was lack of mobility in some run plays and he wasn't seeing a nastiness develop.
If there was one returning O line starter that could be challenged it would probably be Onwenu. But I think he will remain the starter. I think Onwenu's brute strength is hard to overcome.
December 22nd, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
umbig11, have you heard much about Filliaga? I understand that he is blocked right now but is he developing into someone that could be a high end guard to replace Bredeson after next year?
December 22nd, 2018 at 2:19 PM ^
I don’t watch recruits tape, does anyone know what coach sees in him to make that statement?
December 22nd, 2018 at 3:52 PM ^
He's a hell of a mauler, run blocking type, and I very much expect good thing from him in the future. However to me he lacks the freakish athleticism to make a impact immediately.
December 22nd, 2018 at 6:54 PM ^
Since most will only be able to watch recruit videos what could they tell you?
December 22nd, 2018 at 9:26 AM ^
Well everyone has the possibility to end up one of the best players at their position. That’s the goal for all these players.
