MGoBoard poll: How many of you follow Michigan Hockey?
I'd like to get as many responses as I can. I'm going to be writing a piece on Michigan Hockey's popularity and where it is in 2018.
I remember the days where MGoBlog would crash during the tournament games in the early 2010s.
Simple question. Do you follow Michigan Hockey like you do Football & Basketball?
December 6th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
Regular season: no. Will skim the articles, keep up with how the team is doing, but that's about it.
Playoffs: yes.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:01 PM ^
Same. I admit to skipping the hockey related pods and pod segments too.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
No, not as closely until it becomes do-or-die at the end of the year -- unless its a season where we are playing awesome and at the top of the polls.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
No. I think I went to maybe one or two games as an undergrad in the late 80's. Don't really follow or read hockey content on this site. But I still hope they do well.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
Probably equivalent with football and basketball for me.
If broadcasting was better, it would be #1.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:05 PM ^
Yes follow closely and agree, really wish more games were televised/available beyond BTN+.
At minimum every UM/MSU game should be on FSD or BTN.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
Agreed. They used to be!
I couldn't believe neither game was televised this past weekend. Shame.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:02 PM ^
No, not really. I always plan to watch games but then just...don't.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:04 PM ^
i'm on the west coast. following it is a little difficult from LA. if there were more mgoblog or general internet content about it i would be pleased.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:04 PM ^
Regular Season: Watch on TV/Radio, no. Take a look at the mgoboard posts to find results, yes.
Playoffs: Yes.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
I don't. My Michigan fandom on a scale of 1-10
Football: 10, MBB: 6, Hockey: 2
It's only because I didn't play or watch hockey as a kid.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Not like football and basketball.
I follow hockey come playoff time. I really like to catch some of the season games, but usually it ends up conflicting with something else (kids related).
December 6th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
No hablo hockey...
December 6th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
YES. 100%. In fact I go to more hockey games than anything else.
May I make a suggestion? If you rename this thread "Poll" you may get a lot more real answers, especially if you make an actual poll people can fill out.
For example, if you titled it, "How many of you follow Michigan Baseball?" I wouldn't even click it.
Ya know, click-bait 'em a little.

No. Too hard to follow as so few of the games are on TV. I’ll go to one a year and read some of the articles posted, but won’t follow nearly as much as football and basketball.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
Hockey season ticket holder who has followed the team closely since the late 80s. Went to games when I was a student 73-79 then took a few years off. Once my sons were starting hockey themselves we started going back to Yost. Had to wait 2 or 3 years to get season tickets in the mid90s.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
Yes of course.
#1 Football
#2 Hockey
#3 Mens BB
#4 Softball
#5 Womens BB
#6 Mens Swimming/Diving Womens Gymnastics
GO BLUE!!!

Huuuuuuge fan!!! And devastated by the suddenly poor TV coverage. Almost as bad, I didn't even notice how spoiled we were in the previous period where most games were on TV (and I'm speaking as a guy who'd been in PA and IN from 2008 to present).
Anyway, as a 2006 alumnus, I was present for a lot of great seasons. I was also there through a solid swath of lean basketball years. Always had season hockey tickets, never even attended a single basketball game. But before you reflexively hate me for that, think about the time:
one of those years (I can't remember which), the student hockey section was ~2,000 large and the student basketball section was ~200. Hockey was an enormous aspect of the social consciousness on campus and will therefore always be big for me.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
I do follow Michigan hockey, but not as closely as football or basketball, and not as closely as I used to.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
Occasionally but moreso towards the end of the season and tourney. It bothers me that the game columns on here rarely mention the season record so obviously I'm not following all that closely.
If I lived in the area I'd go to games and be much more into it.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
Absolutely. Love Michigan Hockey.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
Much harder to follow when games aren't regularly televised live - though I do check scores/highlights, usually after games.
Hockey games were my favorite sporting event to attend while at Michigan - only regret was not getting season tickets before my senior year.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:24 PM ^
Hockey is a sport that I always wish I cared more about, but I just can't seem to watch more than a couple games a year.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
I follow what Brian writes about it, but it isn't easy to follow from DC due to lack of TV time. When it comes to hockey I am a huge wings fan and I will say hockey is the one sport where I enjoy watching professional more than college.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:26 PM ^
I watch televised games. I listen to the MGoHockeyCast. I read the game summaries on MGoBlog. I visit the USCHO site for the PairWise. I no longer attend the games; maybe if I had won the raffle just once.
Michigan Hockey Rules. BTN screws everything up.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:27 PM ^
Used to follow it religiously but sorta dropped off the last few years..Other than last year its not been great
December 6th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
Not quite as fervently, but that’s because you can’t find the games on TV. If I could, I’d watch them all.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
I check results every weekend or so if I know they're playing. Just the score mostly and maybe a breakdown of the actual games.
Definitely watch the tournament each year.
When I get a chance I go to games but since I live on the East Coast now I haven't been to a game at Yost in ~5 years. Last time at the GLI was like 4 years ago.
I don't follow it to the level of football or basketball mostly because it's not on TV.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
I follow in the sense that I pay attention to the team's record and occasionally catch a game here and there, but I mainly jump on the bandwagon for the NCAA tournament.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
I pay cursory attention via the game threads during the regular season but will always watch a tournament game if televised.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
Yes. Wish i could watch more games though.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:37 PM ^
Do not follow. It's not televised much and there is other stuff to do/watch. I also think college hockey is a significant quality downgrade from the NHL. With NCAAF vs NFL or NBA vs NCAAB the products are "different" as opposed to an inferior product.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:37 PM ^
Not at all.
Tho, I do live in SoCal and cut the cord. So too hard to watch games.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
How u like the rain,,,,man.
December 6th, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
i decided to work from home today because LA drivers in the rain are the worst. would rather drive through a white out blizzard in michigan than drive in the rain with LA drivers.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
I would a lot more if games were on btn. TV.
Here that Warde???
December 6th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
I follow Michigan hockey fairly closely, but I don't get to watch every game like I do with football. I also watch more basketball, but I am a much bigger fan of the hockey team. As student at Michigan in the late 80s, I worked at Yost and attended every home game. Great memories! Go Blue!!
December 6th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
No. I would go to a couple games a year as a student since it was something to do on a Friday evening. I'd probably go to a few games a year if I still lived in AA. But can't really bring myself to watch on TV
December 6th, 2018 at 3:41 PM ^
Watch Michigan hockey when I can, listen when I can't. Like others, wish more games were on TV. But I can't say I follow it like I follow Michigan FB and BB. Not because less interest...it's just easier to get FB and BB information.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
I follow. I know when they played, who they played and the outcome. I know their record (pretty much). I rarely get to watch because BTN+ is an outright scam and I refuse to support it. But I would and will this weekend.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
I enjoy the hockey content on mgoblog and follow it casually.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
I follow it fairly closely as I love the sport. I follow football the closest and then hockey. I’m not a basketball fan so do t really follow that very closely. Like seeing them do well and cheer for them but can’t say I follow the sport
December 6th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
I follow *ALL* M sports as much as a I can.
Hockey, football, basketball too.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
Follow hockey: Yes, but not as closely as football or basketball. Certainly more closely after the football bowl games are over.
December 6th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
I follow all 3. Most interest in football. Over time, probably the same interest in hockey and basketball. As of recent, probably more interest in basketball as hockey has been down other than last years Frozen Four.
