Well, this explains the Andrew Stueber playing time Saturday. Bummer.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:11 PM ^
Perhaps Stueber's PT was more cause than result? If so, disappointed that Hudson would throw in the towel so soon.
October 22nd, 2018 at 7:02 PM ^
I think we all know someone in college who had to leave for one reason or another. My roommate just decided not to take his spring semester finals and was required to take time off. At 40, it is easy to forget what a change college was and I didn’t have the pressure of a student athlete.

Right but they usually don't show up 20 years later as CEO of a boutique, high net worth brokerage and claiming on their website bio that they graduated, or.. maybe they do.
October 23rd, 2018 at 8:07 AM ^
JMFH said Hudson had dislocated finger so he went with Steuber. Sad to see him go.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
I don't see any such rumor on 247. Never mind - I see it now.
October 22nd, 2018 at 7:08 PM ^
Can't get embed to work right now.
Michigan redshirt freshman tackle James Hudson is leaving the program and will pursue a transfer, U-M spokesman Dave Ablauf confirms.

Harbaugh said Hudson was dealing with a minor arm injury and that’s why we haven’t seen him lately. Obviously Harbaugh could be making it up but Hudson transferring doesn’t necessarily explain Hudson’s absence
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:09 PM ^
Link (I assume it's premium on 247 but maybe to the FB?)? That would really suck if so, though it would partially explain Stueber getting in Saturday. We need all the bullets possible for tackle next year, and he sure seemed like a high upside option.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:10 PM ^
If true that would explain why Steuber replaced JBB and not Hudson.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:11 PM ^
A link would be helpful...
EDIT: Just checked the 247 boards and I'm not seeing anything about Hudson

It’s under “Hate seeing guys leave”

Holy sh-t. Is this a result of Stueber going into the game instead of him Saturday perhaps? If so, it doesn't reflect well on him. Then again, I have known some truly overly emotional players' parents - perhaps this is just his Mom venting? Then again, if that was the case, why wouldn't Hudson refute her comments on his twitter?
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
Pity.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
WELP!
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:12 PM ^
If true, that would be terrible. I wonder if it's a playing time issue or maybe getting passed up. He was such a promising DL target that if he would be passed, I would love to see him get moved back to DT. He could be another Hurst/Dwumfour type
October 22nd, 2018 at 7:06 PM ^
agree, especially considering how quickly he was getting to the top of the depth chart
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:13 PM ^
Shouldn't there be a question mark? The title makes it sound like fact, but you call it a rumor.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:23 PM ^
I don't see this on 247 premium board. What is your source for saying this? Never mind - now I see it.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:14 PM ^
What have we done to endlessly piss off the Offensive Line Gods?!
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:13 PM ^
Um... there are no such gods. The closest thing is Warinner, and he's coaching our OL. Grad transfers and recruits are going to be lining up.
I wouldn't jump to conclusions about why Hudson left. Everyone's life is different, and Michigan isn't for everyone.
October 23rd, 2018 at 5:49 AM ^
Agreed. Although he’s only a half hour from home so we can rule out the home sickness I’d think. My 19 yr old son was dam near balling the first half of the year.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
Well this sucks
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
Is there some benefit to these guys leaving before the end of a special season? Seems like it must be an issue related to fit with the guys/program to bounce mid season. Very strange that he was supposedly the next tackle up and is now leaving. Have to think mayfield and steuber passed him but still weird timing.
October 22nd, 2018 at 7:59 PM ^
Leaving after four games played. Won’t have to sit out next year.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:20 PM ^
He does have to sit out next year. Only graduate transfers and players with exceptions or waivers can get out of the one academic year in residence requirement. He would lose a year of eligibility because he already took his redshirt year, meaning he has two years left to play two after his year in residence. He could go the junior college route next year and then be eligible to play after that for his remaining two years.
Quite honestly, if you are going to transfer, you need to do it like Singleton and Hudson after your freshman or sophomore academic year. After your junior/RS sophomore year, you might as well stick it out, get your degree, and then graduate transfer and be eligible immediately.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:29 PM ^
I don't think it works that way. I think he still has to sit out next year. This was talked quite a bit with other recent departures like McDoom.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
Hudson's twitter page is still all Blue.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:18 PM ^
Apparently his mom posted it on her facebook account.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:21 PM ^
OP also said it was a rumor on 247 but I find nothing on 247. Never mind - I see it now.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:20 PM ^
Is there a link to this Facebook post? I can't find a dedicated thread on 24/7.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
It is under "Hate seeing guys leave"
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:20 PM ^
Wow, that does make it sound like a depth chart issue. If JBB and Steuber can develop under Warinner, but Hudson can't, I wish him will trying elsewhere and am thankful for the extra roster spot.
October 22nd, 2018 at 9:25 PM ^
Right, and if your not good to play o line here....probably wants to play defense somewhere else.
October 23rd, 2018 at 10:19 AM ^
This may be it. I watched him a central catholic and D was his specialty.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:21 PM ^
Not calling BS yet, but he played against Wisconsin. I found this quote from Harbaugh's presser (H/T DetNews)
"James had dislocated a finger in the previous ball game (against Wisconsin) so Andrew had more reps and went ahead on the depth chart for this week."
I'm hoping this is just a terrible rumor to try and dampen our spirits.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
I remember seeing posts on 247 about he and his family being pissed he wasn’t a starter after the Notre Dame Game. I wonder if that’s what the determining factor was if this rumor is true
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:24 PM ^
This rumor just seems very odd. Like why would his mom announce her son is leaving program on Facebook before he announces it to anyone? Can anyone get the text from his mom's post?
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:25 PM ^
Checked his mother’s Facebook page. Nothing.
October 22nd, 2018 at 6:26 PM ^
TIFIW, I emailed Seth on Saturday. Might not be the only one.
