It feels like the night before Christmas
Thats right folks. Tomorrow is the day we open up our present (and it's Mitch McGary all wrapped up with a blue bow). It's been a long time coming. I've been following UM Basketball since 1985. The last 13 years have been an absolute nightmare for even the most die hard of UM fans. We've experienced basketball purgatory first hand. I look back at those Daniel Horton teams under Amaker that never made the NCAA's. Or thinking that Lavell Blanchard would be the next Glen Rice. Or the back court of Avery Queen and Gotfredson. Or losing out on Alex Legion only to get him and then lose him again. Or thinking that Petway was the next coming of Harold Miner. Or pinning our front court hopes on the likes of JC Mathis. Or feeling hopeless when Manny Harris opted for the NBA.
Lord knows we've paid our dues. And all of that bad shit finally ends tomorrow. The future has never looked brighter...

Not to sound like a downer, but this is not locked up yet. Believe me I want him to go blue though

Not that I don't want the kid to commit, but it would be hilarious if he didn't. If anything for the trauma it would cause the OP... Stay away from razors and high buildings, buddy.
November 3rd, 2011 at 7:53 AM ^
It would be hilarious to lose a top 3 baskeball recruit so we can laugh at some random message board poster? Makes sense to me.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
That is very downer....
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
The beer is on me.....virtually, of course.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
I don't think I'll be able to accept the virtual beer. I've been virtually sober for 4 years now.

I'll put it in the fridge, you make it cold.
Also thanks for nuking the AA power grid yesterday. That extra long lunch I took was awesome.

Everyone is seriously jumping the gun on this. I'm not going to tell you to back away from the edge if McGary picks Duke tomorrow
November 3rd, 2011 at 7:48 AM ^
If McGary picks Puke...I'm gonna Duke !!!!!!

That's not really true. For one, Morgan has more of an under-the-basket, true center game than McGary does. If MM comes, expect him in more of a mobile PF role.
More importantly, point guard is the biggest need on this team and it's not really close. The early vibes emanating from Burke are very good but they need to be if we're going to continue momentum this season. We have seen Stu run the point and it's not good.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:14 PM ^
Morgan is solid, but he was saying we lack a big man that's a safe bet to get a double-double on a nightly basis.

No one deals out objective evaluations like a dad. Reminded me of this:

Just kidding, though. Everything I've seen about Burke makes me feel pretty good about him.

please no jinxing. unless u are mitch nobody knows 100%
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:06 PM ^
I would say basketball hell is more accurate than basketball purgatory. Purgatory is just kinda meh
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:10 PM ^
You echo my sentiments. I'd like to open the present now,and despense with the drama!

Manny & Deshawn and most would probably agree with you. However, I prefer to think of Zack and Stu as the two who turned the program around, through their determination, leadership and desire to win. I think it really started with them.

November 2nd, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
And you would be right, the much maligned (as recruits) Zack and Stu were JB's foundation pieces, two recruits where he said to the world the most important thing he looks for is basketball brain and desire. Yes, the athleticism in recruiting has improved but Novak and Stu have their signatures first on the stone that marks the beginning of the new era. They are the guys who stuck, who led, who are helping transition the young guys (a benefit they never had).
I want Mitch to go Blue as badly as anyone else but the program is roaring forward with or without him. This team made the NCAA with 3 freshmen, a sophomore and Novak and Douglass. It's nearly insulting to pretend their fortunes are in the lap of any recruit.

Tmrw will be the longest work day I have had in . . . well probbaly ever.
Mitch = Mich.

Bring me a Red Ryder BB Gun, Jordan Payton, virtual and real beer, and Mitch McGary.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:21 PM ^
Jeez, just wait another 19 hours and then go crazy.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:21 PM ^
Slow down. As stated above, no one knows anything for sure yet. Let's get his decision, get him dressed and on the court before we start heralding the start of a new era with Mitch bobbleheads and angels singing and pooping maize-colored basketballs that smell like roses and taste like soup.

Also, if 615 is his area code then he also lives in Tennessee. Which, of course, is strike 2 and 3.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:51 PM ^

I am not going to get excited until tomorrow, when we will have an idea of whether our stockings are filled with coal or goodies.

If he doesn't commit to Michigan, you can join BKFinest in neg-bomb hell.
November 2nd, 2011 at 10:58 PM ^
New backboards will be needed at Michigan for Christmas.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
Why don't we worry about the current upcoming basketball season instead of speculating on 2012's and who our starting PF will be
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:47 PM ^
Real shots are on me boys. I'll be at an undisclosed bar around 4 if you can find me.

Challenge accepted.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
I'm smoking the fattest blunt ever with Mitch right now, and he just said he's picking Duke because he doesn't want to play for a program that counts their chickens before they're hatched.
November 2nd, 2011 at 11:57 PM ^
Something something chickens something something hatch.
November 3rd, 2011 at 12:05 AM ^
It's starting to feel to me like the night before Christmas when you spend all night writing down the video games and the transparent purple controller you're going to get for your birthday next month because you just know you're getting that N64 tomorrow with the standard controllers and Mario Kart and Goldeneye, but your best friend already has like 12 games so you have to quickly upgrade your library. Then you wake up and you got Yoshi Story for Super Nintendo.
What I'm trying to say is, please let this subject marinate tomorrow without anymore jinxing. I think we've successfully jinxed the jinx that originally jinxed jinxing the announcement, which leaves us currently with no jinx. Hold it together.
November 3rd, 2011 at 8:42 AM ^
Yoshi's Story was for N64, if I remember correctly. It sucked. Yoshi's Island on SNES, however, was awesome.
November 3rd, 2011 at 1:02 AM ^
Webbers Pimp, I liked your little history lesson. The only thing I don't agree on is Petway being the nexy Minor. Minor sucked and was terrible. So Petway was Minor...wait Minor was a guard. Yeah so that was the only fail.. and jumping the gun. But I enjoyed the rest.

If Casey Anthony can go free... Mcgary can choose Duke.
