I also agreed with the assumption in the original tree that a 1-loss Wash would&should get in over OSU. Wash would have had a victory over a conference champ and a loss in a 13th game in that scenario, neither of which OSU could claim.
My generalized thought was that the defenses had opposite approaches: UM = bend-don’t-break, PSU = dont-bend-then-fracture.
To me, this would give the offenses different efficiencies: UM would have more “failed” plays (0 yards on 1st/2nd down) to every large, successful play (chunk run on 3rd); PSU would have several “success” plays (8 yards on first, 1 yard on 2nd) to every failure to gain a first down (0 yards on 3rd).
This is just my simplistic thought.

In addition, I believe the NCAA discontinuing its punishment for pay-for-play in the pre-NIL era allowed the SEC to gain a stranglehold. Since fewer teams outside of that conference have a legitimate chance at a national title, in combination with the media narrative evolving to focus almost solely on winning a national title, fewer fan bases will remain strong in the future.

I see this as a flaw that undermines the whole showcase. If it could be worked out, I think it’s an awesome idea, tho I think it should be the 9th conference game by removing one during the regular season.

You have to believe that he is keeping the gas to the floor to keep the committees attention. He doesn’t want to be on the outside looking in if they lose a game, like Urban.

The argument is that Shea is the reason that the offense has room for improvement. The offense goes through him every play and he has significantly underperformed.

Okay, so when a starting QB goes down in a playoff game, the refs need to end the game. There is no way a team can win with a backup QB.
Actually, let’s expand that. QB gets hurt = end the game. All American gets hurt = forfeit a possession. All conference gets hurt = forfeit a down.
