Will we see more alternate uniforms this year?

Submitted by NonAlumFan on September 22nd, 2021 at 3:05 PM

It seems like the reception to the all-blue uniforms was mostly positive so I'm curious to see if they'll do alternate uniforms for another game this year. Since we were introduced to the all-blue during recruiting visits, I could see them wearing blue pants with a white top for a road game or maybe blue pants with a maize top. Would you want to see another alternate uniform this season, or wait for next season, and which of these or others would you want to see? I've seen some alternate helmet designs too but I don't think we're ready for those yet...although the block M and Michigan flag concepts are tempting.

Agree. They're all trying too hard to be edgy and stylish -- except for the one with the state flag, which is just laughable.

But ... it doesn't matter. Please don't ever mess with the helmet. It's like messing with the Yankees' pinstripes or the Canadiens' logo. It's valuable because of its history and tradition. You mess with that, you're asking people to disregard your tradition. Why would you abandon your largest selling point?

I can't stand the alternate home uniforms. I know we're trying to be "hip," but you want the kids to want to wear that maize and blue uniform, not promise to change it. I mean, you even want the kids who want to wear it. Let those who want trendy go to Oregon. Let those who want to be champions, stay.

Eh. I accept the alternate unis because apparently the kids like them. But I never actively like them. Any of them. Dance with the girl who brung ya. :-)

Off topic slightly, but the home team can pick their uni's....why doesnt Penn St. wear all white in a white out?  It was weird when Auburn was in all white and so were the fans....I have written it before, but how weird is it, that Michigan plays at Penn St during a white out and we all cheer "Go Blue" and our team is in white and theirs in Blue?

It is madness

Entering my standard complaint every time this issue surfaces: Maize / yellow doesn't provide enough contrast to white. Those colors look lousy together IMO. It's true for us, Cal, West Virginia, and anyone else (like Iowa) who has yellow as their "light" color.

Our home uniforms are the best. Road ones are a few notches below them. I'm OK with the all-white uniforms. I could also see trying blue pants.

I just don't care to go all Oregon and do full ugly.  And no Dave Brandon specials; no bumblebees, no made up jumbled history uniform ala UTL and no blue shoulder over white top on maize numbers from the Outback Bowl against South Carolina.....how embarrassingly stupid that nobody could read the numbers, the sunlight just makes it a white blur.  Just....no Dave Brandon.  Stay away.

Alternates are not something that should be done more than once a year, but that's just me.  With that said, blue on blue looks sharp (I thought it looked sharp against Penn State in 2014).  No thanks to the maize on maize.  The full white on white doesn't look bad either but I prefer when we go on the road to have the white on yellow just out of familiarity.  That was the road jersey for 50 something straight years outside those 3 seasons in the 70's and I kind of miss it....

I've never been a big fan of the white-on-white, I think it's mainly the stripes on the pants and the sleeves that turn me off to them. The stripes don't make them look classic nor modern, kind of like an early-2000's look that someone thinks is in style but just looks outdated. I really like the maize pants and white top, I wish they'd wear blue pants and a white top for a spring game so we can try it out!

I don't mind the stripes on the pants and sleeves because I think it helps us avoid looking too much like Penn State with winged helmets, as Rick Leach shows here in the 76 Orange Bowl...

I prefer the traditional white on yellow pants for road games but as least the white on white isn't ugly.  We don't need to do ugly.

In general, I would say I'm becoming more open to alternate jerseys but don't see alternates as a central part of being relevant to new recruits. Michigan's traditional jerseys are great. Slight tweaks can be pulled off: the white on blue in that photo actually looks pretty sharp. Not a fan of the maize on blue though.

But...

I've seen some alternate helmet designs too but I don't think we're ready for those yet

...no. Never. Do not change the helmet, even just as a one-off. It's such an iconic image, any attempt at an alternate helmet would be chintzy and stupid. Don't mess with the helmet.

Absolutely not to the alternate helmets.  That's simply stupid.

For uni's:

Blue on blue is cool, I'm down with pulling those out once every year.

I like the maize on maize, not a lot mind you, but I don't hate it is a better way to frame it.  Once every few years I guess I could live with.

Maize jersey's with blue pants....I don't like it.  Screams WVU to me.  Although I imagine recruits would love it because it stands out.  But I hate it.

For the love of all things Michigan, the maize pants must come back for road games.  Alternate white pants and maize pants for all I care, it boggles the mind that we've only worn the most famous road uniform we have once in Harbaugh's tenure.  Maize road pants, bring 'em to Madison or Penn State please!

White jersey's on blue pants, also cool in my book.  Just prioritize maize road pants PLEASE!

Concur with the opinion of many, never touch the helmet. Do not mess with perfection. As a matter of fact, I would like us to return to the wing shape before this last iteration with the curl on the wing. The curl was not an improvement.

I know many will not agree with me but I would like to see the all maize back now that we ditched the adidas highlighter yellow, with the following stipulations: 1) Never at home. 2) For neutral site games only but never Rose Bowl, nor Big Ten championship game / CFP game (please let us get there soon). 3) Add a little more blue to the adidas style we wore that one time against Florida. The whole thing does not have to be maize - add a blue stripe on the side of the Jersey and pants as an example.

I get it that most do not enjoy maize as much as I do, so I understand if most disagree and they never return. I have a feeling that Coach Harbaugh despises them so they will probably never return in his tenure anyway.

the all Maize should stay on the basketball court.

not a fan for football.

Love the all Blue, the all White road (blue pants for road would be cool) are #2

regular home uni's are # 3 on my list right now.

but NEVER mess with the helmet,

replace the blm sticker with an American flag is only change I would make

I didn't hate the blue-on-blue unis we wore for Washington; that's the only alternate color combo that isn't horrendous.

As for the alternate helmet designs, delete your account.

Alternate helmets should never be a thing. That's the one untouchable element of M uniforms IMO.

That being said, I'd like to see the white jersey/blue pants combo atleast once this year.

Are we living in the same planet? I actually liked them, but I feel like the general response was not that well received.
