My fault, I see it now. I…

My fault, I see it now.

I should've said, "late additions to the transfer portal."

Words are hard.

Notta one.It's filled with…

Notta one.

It's filled with busts.

Sam Huard, highly rated QB who went to Washington, flamed out and wound up at Caly Poly is back in the portal.

Shane Illingworth, another bust that Michigan recruited. He transferred to Nevad for 2 or 3 years, couldn't start, now he is back in.

Wimsatt, Jeff Sims, Deacon Hill.

It's a bunch of nothing.

I hate to admit it, but I remain disappointed that we didn't go get Julian Sayin. 5*, might have been the #1 prospect available in the portal, and every comp you hear about him is...JJ McCarthy.

Instead he's going to be on the bench at OSU, waiting to see what happens next year.

And he may have ended up on the bench at Michigan...but he would've been nice to have in the spring to see if anything is there.

That said, it is what it is...I keep saying, let's let Tuttle and Warren battle for the 2021 McNamara QB spot. And Orji has already locked down the 2021 McCarthy role.

Go win the B1G and make the playoff.

lol yes, he was on the team…

lol yes, he was on the team. He transferred after Harbaugh, Minter, (and I believe after Clinkscale) left.

RB/WR: Donovan Edwards2…

Not great, but much better shape than we were this morning.

RB/WR: Donovan Edwards
2. Cole Cabana
3. Micah Kaapana

WR: Tyler Morris
2. Channing Goodwin
3. Kendrick Bell

WR: Fredrick Moore
2. Amorion Walker
3. Peyton O'Leary

SLOT: Semaj Morgan
2. I'Marion Stewart / CJ Charleston

H-BACK: Max Bredeson
2. Jalen Hoffman

TE: Colston Loveland
2. Marlin Klein
3. Zach Marshall
4. Deakon Tonielli
5. Brady Prieskorn / Hogan Hansen

That's a two-deep you can live with.

Apparently Amorion Walker is…

Apparently Amorion Walker is considering a return if he can play WR only.

I see that as a major pickup considering the need and what he brings (tall, rangy, leapy).

Personal matter.Clemons is…

Personal matter (for English).

Clemons is the one that makes you wonder. That was just frustration, impatience, and a little bit of money.

He would have a clear role as a starting BIG receiver.

Cornelius Johnson --> Darrius Clemons

Roman Wilson --> Tyler Morris

Semaj Morgan --> Semaj Morgan

'23 Tyler Morris --> Fredrick Moore

That group is young, but capable.

Clearly, it didn't.

Clearly, it didn't. Here you go.

Kentucky. Basically let's UM…

Kentucky.

Basically let's UM do the scouting and talent identification and then allows the money to do the rest.

We have one SCHOLARSHIP open…

We have one SCHOLARSHIP open, two if Jace leaves or goes to being a walk-on.

We have 3 "spots" open. 1 scholarship and 2 walk-on.

If Jace becomes a walk-on, it flips. We have 2 scholarships and 1 walk-on spot open.

Personally, I'd leave Jace on scholarship because you get it back next year when he leaves.

We don't have any minutes left and you're not going to find a transfer who is willing to play 0 minutes unless it's garbage time.

I'd leave Jace and aim to find a freshman C or PF who can redshirt next year, then back-up Wolf or Johnson in 2025.

Then find a couple of walk-ons and that's 15.

12 we have now + scholarship freshman post player + 2 walk-ons.

He's either a starter or the…

He's either a starter or the 6th man. He'll get plenty of minutes.

He should sign with Miami…

He should sign with Miami and try to back up his brother.

You're connecting dots that…

You're connecting dots that aren't connected.

A start versus BGSU wasn't going to change anything.

He started against two NFL DLs (Bama and Washington) and he started against Iowa's great defense.

He also got extended reps versus OSUs fantastic DL and others.

BGSU has nothing to do with it, lol.

Stay mad though, stay mad.

Good luck.

Good luck.

Could be a CB as well with…

Could be a CB as well with Waller leaving

Edit: Apparently he re-entered the portal because he wants to switch back to offense and Michigan wants a tall rangy WR.

To what...Left Cornerback…

To what...Left Cornerback from Right Cornerback?

lol that makes no sense whatsoever.

We're thin at CB and we're going to move our starting CB?

Move Jace to walk-on and let…

Move Jace to walk-on and let's ride!

Actually, this would probably mean Burnett is gone, Howard stays on scholarship and my hope of a true freshman F doesn't come to fruition.

Goldin has never played 30 mpg (he has never played more than 25 mpg) and Wolf absolutely gets more than 10 at C.

You don't want your 7 footer playing that many mpg without being an Edey/Dickinson type.

Great news! The kid can…

Great news! The kid can shoot, excellent compliment to Vlad.

That's fair.At the same time…

That's fair.

At the same time, I can't dismiss that he was healthy and didn't get a single carry versus Indiana, MSU or Purdue (and only got one versus Minnesota).

Tavi Dunlap got more carries as a true freshman who only played in TWO games than he did last year where he played in ten.

Gash got more carries in '22 than Dunlap did in '22 and '23 combined.

Even Franklin got 11 carries last year.

I get guys improve, but I just can't look past these facts. Especially knowing it wasn't against a first team defense.

lol one spring game with…

lol one spring game with split squad, where you aren't going up against a first team unit is not a determining factor for me.

Dunlap couldn't play over Isaiah Gash and Leon Franklin.

Now you take the spring RB room, cut it in half so he gets carries against a mish mosh of 1s, 2s, and 3s...in a game where true starters are limited, and of course he looks solid.

But it doesn't overtake the 2+ years of data, lack of any news coming from practice reports, coaches at press conferences, etc.

He literally wasn't playing in games when we were up by 30 points.

...I bet last year you had Peyton O'Leary as a starting WR (coming off the spring game).  Exactly my point.

Edit: Can't emphasize enough the impact of split squad scrimmages. You already have little depth, and then you cut it in HALF.

This is why schools would go offense vs. defense...but it's not a good product for fans or on TV and the weird points systems were stupid.  But at least then you could see, "okay...Tavi Dunlap is out there doing that to Graham, Grant, Hausmann, Barham, Johnson, Paige, etc. - he must be improved!"  Not the same with this format.

"Must Haves"Starting WR (6'2…

"Must Haves"

  • Starting WR (6'2+)
  • Starting Kicker

"Needs" (championship-level standards)

  • Starting QB
  • Starting WR (6'2+)
  • Backup WR (6'2+)
  • Backup LB (Nikhai Hill-Green)
  • Backup EDGE/OLB
  • Cornerback #2 (grad transfer)
  • Backup S (Q. Johnson replaces Moore, Z. Berry replaces the K. Sabb snaps...we need someone for the 2023 Q. Johnson role)
  • Starting K

*I would add "Blocking TE", but I think Klein is fine along with the non-starting RT (Gentry or Persi). Plus Bredeson in his role.

*I don't think finding the "Cam Goode" DT in the portal is necessary. Get one of the true freshman game ready by using those snaps.  This (upcoming season) could be it for Graham and Grant.  Get a true freshman experience for the 2025 season.

*Hill and Waller can be the 2nd team CB tandem. Both can start next year.

ThoughtsIf we stick with the…

Thoughts

  • If we stick with the QBs, I think it becomes a Tuttle/Warren battle for the 2021 Cade McNamara spot.  I think Orji has locked down the 2021 JJ McCarthy spot, and I don't see that evolving into a traditional starting QB role (but I do think he gets snaps, he is allowed to throw, and it's more than a "gimmick" - I see a very similar role as true freshman JJ, including certain packages and formations).
  • Michigan MUST get more depth at WR - a starter who is 6'2+ and a "Baldwin" type possession guy for depth. Take the "Baldwin" type out if Kendrick Bell is ready to step into that role.
  • Coaches and insiders report that Michigan wants more depth at ILB (hence Nikhai Hill-Green rumors). As someone without a clue, I respectfully disagree.  I really like Hood as the #3 and Rolder is right there when healthy.
  • HOWEVER, I absolutely think we need to go get another Josaiah Stewart...to backup Josaiah Stewart.  I believe in Guy on the other side, behind Moore.
  • I'm starting to come around on CB2. Still don't love it, but certainly improvement.
  • Losing Rod Moore hurts.
  • Go find a kicker!
You can't go into a season…

You can't go into a season with 5 warm bodies at WR.

We need TWO in the portal. A starter and a Baldwin type.

This team, as constructed…

This team, as constructed above, makes it to the second weekend of the tournament next March.

I'm still holding out hope…

I'm still holding out hope with Davis and Mahaney.  If neither player commits, move Gayle to that spot and keep Burnett.

How-wooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

How-wooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I've been saying all spring…

I've been saying all spring.

2021.

Tuttle and Warren battle it out for the McNamara role.

Orji gets the freshman JJ McCarthy role.

Let's not make this more difficult than it needs to be. Orji is too dynamic to keep off the field and you can trust him with limited throws. But Let Tuttle and Warren battle it out for the role Cade played in 2021.

Orji will come along throughout the season and before you know it...he'll be streaking down the sideline, throwing blocks for Donovan Edwards in the B1G Championship game.

The fact that you have to…

The fact that you have to say they don't look like the Carolina Panthers, unprompted and not in response to anyone, means deep down you know those black uniforms give Carolina Panthers vibes.

I think I would've preferred…

I think I would've preferred a black helmet with the black uniforms. Blue logo, blue stripe.

Everything else looks good.

I think everyone is enamored…

I think everyone is enamored but his size and speed and physical presence. It's kind of uncomfortable.

Thats why I look at it…

Thats why I look at it differently.

For me, Blue is First Team All-B1G potential, solidified starter, player is ready to go now and will meet or exceed a "national championship standard."

Green is, "feel good about this player," not a liability, solid B1G starter...not elite, but you don't have to worry.

Yellow is "solid, but not great" or "unfulfilled potential that will see the field."

Sad Josh is, "not ready."

He seems like a guy that you…

He seems like a guy that you'll hear from as a RS JR and 5th Year Sr.

Donovan Jeter-ish.

Late career guy that you can plug in and know he's not going to make mistakes.

I have more faith in Hood…

I have more faith in Hood and McBurrows than most.

Efobi is getting a lot of…

Efobi is getting a lot of positive pub this offseason. I think he's trending towards a 😐

Depends on how you define, …

Depends on how you define, "best." Is that favorite?  Is that the best coached / best played / cleanest game?  Is that the most important or impactful?

I'll define it myself in my brain...

2. (tie) - Rose Bowl

2. (tie) - 2021 OSU

4. - 2021 Iowa/Big Ten Championship

5. (tie) - 2022 OSU

5. (tie) - 2023 OSU

7. - 2019 MSU

8. - 2016 PSU (or the one where Frames is drawing the penis)

9. - 2019 Notre Dame

10. (tie) - 2021 Nebraska

10. (tie) - 2023 MSU

What did he expect? …

What did he expect?  Michigan was going to go all in on a coach who isn't even there any longer?

This is ridiculous.

This is ridiculous.

I've always been a huge fan…

I've always been a huge fan. No disrespect to Rolder, but I've seen him as LB #3 (unless the rumors of a NHG return are true).

Yes please!

Yes please!

Putting random mpg numbers…

Putting random mpg numbers together with the names that have been mentioned and you get a unit that really ends up going big...or going small throughout games.  Kind of interesting.  Certainly would allow us to mix and match lineups.

All 3 are visiting this week, hopefully we can add Wolf this week as well.
