OT: Transfer Tyson Walker heads to MSU, Championship Imminent*
The money quote:
"They talk to me about every day. Just what they have and what they need. They're ready to win a championship. I'm the missing piece."
Oh you sweet, sweet summer child.
I can’t wait for Tom Izzo to berate him on the sidelines for not slapping the floor hard enough
You mean like this....
Walker sure is full of himself.
It'll be beautiful seeing him cut down to size next season---he's only 6'0" to begin with, but still towers over Tiny Tom.
With that ego, I am surprised he’s willing to go there to just be Foster Loyer’s back up.
The opportunity to be introduced before a game, "And at guard, Tyson Walker presented by Rocket Mortgage," was simply irresistible, I guess.
Hey, MSU is close. They almost made the tournament this year.
I'd say MSU "kinda" made it.
No. They didn’t. They lost the “play-in” game, so quite literally, they were out.
Nobody hates Sparty as much as I do...but "buzzer sound" wrong answer. The NCAA tournament is comprised of 68 teams. I don't know why, as smart as this fan base is, anyone would believe any different.

I’ll stop saying they didn’t make the tournament when they stop saying that we won half a national championship in ‘97. Until then, streak over.

I've been told by more than a few Sparties that if we win the National Championship in basketball that it will be an asterisk NC. The funny thing is that I think some of them are scared to death there's a chance we could win it.
My response to them is "Little bro gonna little bro"
In actual tournament games, a higher seeded team plays a lower seeded team (at least to open the tournament.)
For extra cash, someone decided to have a playoff between like-seeded mediocre teams for the last few tournament spots. They called it a "play in" game.
Tell that to UCLA, because they're playing today in week 2. They made it past every Big 10 team minus Michigan. One can hate Sparty and still understand the other major reason play-in games were created: too many teams with justified resumes were being left out.

UCLA won their play-in game. They deserved to be part of the tournament because of this.
If your school’s name isn’t on the bracket everyone fills out, your school didn’t make the tournament. The End.

Look, my twitter feed is full of Sparty fans giving me shit for being excited about the Sweet 16 because Spartan fans only celebrate Final Fours and National Championships, not "small victories" like the Sweet 16 so no, I will not recognize them getting a bid to a play-in game and then losing.

Why are you taking this seriously?
Oh, now I am taking your obviously sarcastic comment seriously! Good job, that was subtle.
If you have to "play-in" to get to the first round, you haven't made the tournament, you've been give the opportunity to make the tournament. I don't care what they call it, you don't make the tournament if you don't play in the first round.
I wonder if Mr. Walker is familiar with Michigan's recruiting class next year?
He sure doesn't hate himself:
"I can score on anybody, not just against people in our conference," Walker said.
***
"My ability to get people open shots, I think that will be the biggest thing. And being able to make shots," Walker said. "I know I can't take as many shots as I've taken here, so it's going to have to change a little bit. But my assists will go up because of the people around me."
Who's the current point guard and how does he feel about this quote?
"What they were missing this year was a point guard."
Foster Loyer?
He ain't wrong
Loyer, Hoggard and Watts. They are all different levels of a mess. At least one is presumably leaving as MSU has Walker and Akins coming in. And Christie will take minutes at the two which might nudge Rocket out.
They want Christie to be on ball a lot as well, which will take away from the PG having the ball in his hands. I think they want Max to be a Denzel Valentine type. Their PG will only be asked to score. He’s been sold a bag of bs.

"Their PG will only be asked to score."
Based on his quotes from the article, sounds like he'll have no problem with that plan. Good chance that's exactly what he was sold.
In the background was the sound of Foster Loyer flushed down the toilet
"What they were missing this year was a point guard"
....And a post up presence. And the ability to guard the post. And the ability to get to the hoop. And maybe shooting?
Howard has the #1 recruiting class in the nation, so I am not overly concerned with teams that had a losing record in conference getting a mid tier transfer.
Howard has us rolling on the recruiting trail, but MSU is #6. Let's not act like they're going to become Nebraska after one bad season. Personally, I like it when both teams are really good and the games have more at stake.
I don’t think anyone is saying MSU becomes Nebraska, but unless they get some more transfers (and don’t lose any contributors in the meantime) then they will essentially be the same team plus some talented freshmen. Either Izzo would have to figure out how to coach young guys or Bingham, Brown, and Loyer will have to make huge jumps for them to be competitive next year. I don’t see either of those things happening.

They had talent. They had chemistry problems. Izzo didn't suddenly forget how to coach, but do wonder if his style has lost it's effectiveness.

Izzo didn't suddenly forget how to coach
correct, he has been losing his grip for a while now
Personally I like it when Staee sucks.
Signing on to this.
exactly! Screw all that I like when both teams are good BS. Always root for the rape enabling cover up artist known as angry elf to lose and suffer.
I can see that opinion. I just disagree -- I want our rivals (and we have so many) to be absolute trash AND I want to crush them every year. Our rivals being great does nothing positive for the team. Exciting games with rivals? No thanks. Utterly crush them and roll on towards conference titles and great tournament results.

If I only have one option, I’ll take MSU bball being competitive if it means we dominate OSU in football. There’s not much I wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice to own OSU for a few seasons straight.
I dunno, man. If MSU somehow managed to find a way to lose every single game next season, I'm pretty sure I'd find every loss even funnier than the previous one.
Just a difference of opinion I guess. Michigan winning is #1, but great games between top programs is what I enjoy most when watching sports.
Solid pickup. Not elite, but should very much help MSU's glaring weakness from this year.
Yeah probably an upgrade from anyone on the current roster. They play in the Colonial conference (Drexel, Charleston, Hofstra), which Kenpom rates around the middle of the pack or below, a bit worse than the Ivy League I believe
Along with Akins and Hoggard, the floor seems to have risen from the abysmal depths of this past season
Oh, there will definitely be a big learning curve for him. Nonetheless, sounds like his other finalist was Kansas (had call with Self the other night) so the kid clearly has talent.
I guess he wants to get his jersey grabbed or have Izzo basically attack him on national TV.
He'll need to steer clear of hallways when Tiny Tim is around....
Another spartie that stays in school for 7 years while piloting the ss izzo for that packaging degree?
MSU has some shit degrees, but packaging isn't one of them. My nephew got a packaging degree there and is making $83k three years out of school.
My kid got a finance degree from UM and made $120K right out of college.
#themichigandifference
Is $83K a lot three years removed from college? I honestly have no idea.
I love Michigan but I won't use one salary as the launching point for the Michigan Difference.
From Mlive.com article...
Five years after graduation, the median salary for UM bachelor’s degree holders is $61,099, according to a 2019 report from the university and the U.S. Census Bureau that explored earnings data from 2001 to 2013.
83k is solid.
Without context, the statements above don’t mean anything. Is the finance grad working 90 hr weeks in NYC while the packaging grad is working 40 hr weeks in Chicago? I know which lifestyle I would prefer in this scenario.
Well you’re nyc fan so surely you prefer the 90 hrs/week in nyc
