Grier served as a bodyguard for his friend, United States senator and presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. He was guarding Ethel Kennedy, the Senator's wife, who was then expecting a child, the night that Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles in 1968. Grier and Olympicdecathlongold medalistRafer Johnson heard shots fired ahead of them. As Grier caught up he saw men wrestling with gunman Sirhan Sirhan. Grier jumped into the fray. Grier states, "So I see George Plimpton has the gun pointed at his face, and I'm concerned that it is going to go off, so I put my hand under the trigger housing and I pulled back the hammer so it couldn't strike. I wrench the gun from Sirhan. I find the pin and I ripped it out and held it. Now I have the gun in my hand, so I shove it in my pocket." Grier later said, "I grabbed the man's legs and dragged him onto a table. There was a guy angrily twisting the killer's legs and other angry faces coming towards him, as though they were going to tear him to pieces. I fought them off. I would not allow more violence."
OP has a point. As new coach taking over the team, it only makes sense for Dusty to eliminate the former coach's progeny, to help ensure his own genetic line continues but also so they don't grow up to challenge his supremacy. It seems cruel to us in our comfortable homes, but we have to accept that sometimes the world outside is a cruel place.
For good reasons he wasn't really heralded as a recruit but you could see flashes in his game. He made a one handed no look pass from the key to a guy open underneath the basket, opened my eyes. When he got here he immediately competed. Then he got his shot going too. Good luck Dug!
Here in NC too, trees are blooming and have the day (mostly) off! Going to spend the day in a hammock with a book and a beer, cap it off with some sweet sixteen action.
Minnesota had 9-10 players transfer out before last year's season. They won 9 games and tied for last in the conference, which is a smidge better than our season this year lol
Seems a stretch what one has to do with the other, there's way more differences than similarities here. Completely different programs, different expectations, alumnus vs. non, records as pointed out... I just don't get it. I mean, Penny Hardaway exists
I got to give some flowers to T Will. He's developed to be an average Big Ten starter and his PRPG and PER both confirm that. And he's got 12/6 right now, leading the team in both and zero TOs... not going gently into that good night.
It really is a shock. We were winning Battle of Atlantis, beating the Zags and UNC, we were getting deep into the tourney, we won the conference, we had an all-American freshman, AND we were signing 5 stars finally! At the time, it really seemed he would continue JB's success and add onto it with top-tier recruiting tied to NBA tactics.
Fall from grace is an understatement. I feel bad for Juwan since he obviously loves the school, but I feel way worse for the program and especially the players. Not like this...
Don't understand the appeal of your state's shape, seems like the laziest design inspiration possible. When I see the inelegant outline of Indiana on the floor at Assembly Hall, for example, I can't help but smirk at the artless lack of imagination.
Is the shape of Indiana that recognizable to anyone - "hey, that's Indiana!" What is it? Zoidberg with a high top fade?
Look, I'm pretty sure watching an Oregon game might give your eyeballs cancer, but at least it's a bold expression of what the state/school might be about.
What about Colorado or Wyoming? What if there were a rectangular state the exact aspect ratio as a basketball court? Williams from downtown Casper!
If you've not heard the original Police on my Back, I encourage you to do so! It's by the Equals, Eddy Grant's band before Electric Avenue times, way back in the 60s...
6. Won't follow the Chargers, no. I'll pull for Jim in some "by the way" way, the guy is a Michigan legend and has a case to be THE Michigan legend, but I certainly won't be pulling for the Chargers franchise per se
If they do poorly then it's Jeremy Clarkson's "oh no. anyway..." But I hope Jim gets some satisfaction from this experience, whatever that may be.
I went to high school with Jon in the aforementioned town in PA, basically a suburb of Harrisburg, the capital (and thanks for the mention in the OP, Mineral King!). So this is all interesting to me.
I was a couple of years older, didn't play football, but my buddies did and we all were on the track team - the football guys moreso on the "field" side of track and field of course. We used to bust Jon's balls and he took it like the sophomore star of a great HS team would. His mom is a sweet lady who was many of our 6th grade English teacher. Wholesome af.
But yeah, Jon is/was not your average football type dude. He had a band called... something something Love Juicy? But he won the state championship as the star fullback in a wing T. I was in the Ivy Leagues by then and forced to stop caring about sports besides ice hockey, maybe, but it was cool to see him go on to a big program like Michigan (and not, say, PSU)
I didn't go to Michigan until after he was gone, but in 2000 or so I was living in SF and ran into him walking down Fillmore Street one sunny afternoon. I think it was the Jazz Festival. Shared some hugs, got some invites to hang.
He lived in the east bay in the Berkeley hills. He would slum it in an east bay dive bar and would hang out there with the guys from Green Day and other lowlife/music types. Couple hangers-on from HS lived with him or nearby, my friends too I guess.
Watched the Snow Bowl from his house, and the infamous Tuck Rule incident. Watching at my buddy's house, a Raider and former Wolverine; play against Tom Brady from Michigan, get stripped by Charles Woodson, with that call and those stakes... well I'm glad I was drunk. I didn't ask him too much about his experience at Michigan. Felt very mixed and he seemed pretty meh about Woodson, so I kind of left it there (because I fucking love #2)
Other NFL players from that era of Harrisburg football: Coy Wire and Kyle Brady, who both went to our rival HS, Ricky Watters, Robert Tate, LB Kevin Mitchell, Charlie Adams who played briefly for the Broncos, still lives in Denver and apparently hangs out with the shroom farmer version of Jake the snake Plummer.
OP, it looks like your first link goes to my own Twitter bookmark page instead of the intended tweet, so I was confused when the only thing that showed up was this:
Maybe it's technically already OT season, but maybe we need a "until the shit settles season" for the near term. Lately the board feels like Arkham Asylum and someone unlocked all the cells
Now, when we say “end of OT season”, it is more a “significant narrowing of scope” – in other words, not every single OT thread will be removed outright. What you must do, if you plan on posting such a thread, is provide a pretty damn good explanation of why it should stay (or the reason may be self-evident) – and yes, frivolous ones will be removed as always.
K-State coaches were clearly irritated when they began to worry that they were being spied upon. Chris Williams, who covers Iowa State for the web site Cyclone Fanatic, reported that during one late timeout Tang’s staff took a look at ISU’s managers and referred to them as “cheating (expletives).” The ESPN cameras also caught Tang appearing to tell lead official Gerry Pollard during the game’s penultimate media timeout that Iowa State had people “filming our huddle.” His concerns didn’t amount to anything, though. The game continued and the Cyclones pulled away for a double-digit win.
So many bad takes stated petulantly and when confronted just replies “I’m right, you’re wrong.” Those bad takes are even funnier now - we’ll never win without throwing for 300-400 yards, we’re nowhere near as good as Bama, etc. Card pulled!
Love the teammate vibes in all these vlogs. (Zack Marshall seems to pop up a disproportionate number of times lol)
Going to miss Frozone and CJ, Mike B and the rest who are leaving. All great personalities and contributors to some real camaraderie. What a team. Super glad we have some record of these moments, thank you for sharing.

An age old story
Strangely enough I actually know someone named Dusty Cook

Endow the title "Brian J. Cook and MGoBlog Special Teams Football Coach"
I've got a lot of problems with you people. And now you're gonna hear about it!

Go blue!!!
What a beaut!

Not only is he washed, but my man is 64 years old. Here's a great article in the Athletic about coach Cal's demise the last 8-9 years

To the end of the week and new coaching beginnings fall 2024
Guys, this means bitching on the internet works! Time to go back and sign all those online petitions. You're next, Putin. Or maybe Warde.

Man, I forgot how much I miss that guy
Those who stuck out the game threads deserve some recognition, true basketball sickos

Bad meaning bad?
Indiana watching this game and no doubt shitting their pants
Heard it was worth a watch

It never fails, Henne and ginger ale
As a Cornell alumnus, I'm a little disappointed there is no Big Red origin story or even mention here.
But as a Michigan alumnus and a fully formed grown person, I don't really care. To hell with Notre Dame and beat Minnesota!
Prediction? Pain.

Good call, that is Ritchie. Guess he transferred to Stanford after this season.

The best part of my day? I took an awesome nap at half time and then slept through the 2nd half
I was perusing the Live Thread for Harbaugh's press conference on the Chargers subreddit. Very interesting to see the takes as they happened. A few outtakes:
etc.

Probably should have split this into multiple posts so I could add more upvotes. Moore smash!!
when Jim left I wasn’t super sure how I felt about this impending move. But I just read the headline and instinctively let out a wooo!!
Let’s keep it going, Coach Moore!
The answer is obviously John Beilein
If recent posts are any indication, OT season is going to kill us all

Oversized moustache. It's funny... it's funny, cuz it's ya know bigger than a normal moustache
Saw some funny comments elsewhere about CJ Stroud going down to a McDonald defense yet again

Fun fact, Coleman Hawkins learned his chops playing with Miles Davis
