From a related tweet: “Former five-star EDGE recruit Eyabi Anoma has enrolled at Michigan and is in the school's directory. Former Alabama, Houston, UT Martin player entered the transfer portal on Aug. 15. Letd UT Martin w/ 9.5 sacks last year.”

Communist football posts about player being shared with every program - coincidence?
Joking aside, nice to pick up another immensely talented player into the university!

Haha comrade! Indeed, Anoma was the subject of considerable late recruitment drama between M and Alabama a few years ago: https://mgoblog.com/category/user-tags/eyabi-anoma
A product of Biff Poggi’s program at St. Francis: https://247sports.com/college/michigan/Article/BREAKING-Former-five-star-EDGE-prospect-enrolls-at-Michigan-two-days-after-entering-transfer-portal-Eyabi-Anoma-191714630/
In terms of his arrival at Michigan — surely spearheaded in part by his connection to Poggi — Anoma is listed as a graduate student in Michigan's directory, which may help him attain immediate eligibility. But entering the transfer portal after the NCAA's June 1 deadline to guarantee immediate eligibility and having already transferred twice in his career is cause for some pause.
Has immediate eligibility and is on the roster, according to Josh Henschke: https://twitter.com/JoshHenschke/status/1560098857643831297?s=20&t=A_2n3cZ0NLDz4bcvFsNJzQ
Sources tell Maize & Blue Review that Enoma is immediately eligible but will have to work his way up the depth chart to see the field this season.

The one job he needs to get ready for this year is to ruin this man's season... again.

Time to update HTTV!

+1 for the cyan

Big time if he can play this season. We need edge rushers and he would be perfect. He'd have to work his way up the depth chart, which means he'd be unleashed at the end the year when we needed him most (assuming he can play immediately).
August 17th, 2022 at 11:51 PM ^
why would he have to work his way up the depth chart? has he been sitting on a couch eating cheetos for a year? why can't he start crushing tomorrow?
August 18th, 2022 at 9:39 AM ^
Does he know the various line calls and defensive plays for Jesse Mintor's defense? Probably not. Hopefully, it won't take him until OSU to figure it out. I suspect we'll see him get more and more PT as the season progresses - so long as he is, in fact, in game shape.
August 17th, 2022 at 10:37 PM ^
I’m all for this. Harbaugh seems to run a tight ship which he’ll need and he could likely start right away if he’s eligible and will have 3-4 games to ramp up

Question: could Eyabi Anoma have 2 years of eligibility remaining as a grad transfer because of the free year of COVID eligibility?
August 18th, 2022 at 5:35 AM ^
Yes, according to reports.
August 17th, 2022 at 10:37 PM ^
Seems like a real roll of the dice on a guy that seemingly has had some real problems at previous stops. Hope he's learned from previous stops and it works out both for us and for him.
editing since it turns out he's a grad transfer. Hope he kills it.
August 17th, 2022 at 10:50 PM ^
Unless he has his degree, in which case the transfer argument still holds up. If he has his degree, he’s being admitted to grad school which is significantly easier for the transfers to do.
At any rate, “ideal transcripts” have never been the issue. Getting credits to transfer over and having enough of those credits transfer over to maintain eligibility is the issue. You can be a straight A student and if your credits don’t transfer over, it’s all for naught.
August 17th, 2022 at 10:53 PM ^
Turns out he was listed as a grad transfer. For some reason I thought grad transfers didn't have to go through the transfer portal but guess I just made that up
August 17th, 2022 at 11:11 PM ^
IF he is a grad transfer, which makes sense as he was probably finishing up summer classes and gain admission into UM so late, it is a pretty impressive accomplishment to get a degree in 4 years (by my count) across 3 schools. That's a serious academic load, along with some generous transfer credits. I love to have that kind of work ethic on the team and will welcome anyone wants to play at UM that badly.

HELL YEAH!!
August 17th, 2022 at 10:41 PM ^
Might be a nice add, we’ll see. I’d be pleasantly surprised.

This also suggests M is in fact worried about its d-line, and rightly so. I'm not buying the preseason BS about the line.
August 18th, 2022 at 3:25 AM ^
It doesn't suggest that at all.
Whether Eyabi Anoma plays or not, the coaches feel strongly about this year's DL and overall defense.
Harbaugh isn't prone to exaggeration or hyperbole (like Fred Jackson was).
When Harbaugh says this defense can/will be better, it's because this year's team is deeper, more physically mature than last year's team, and is now in year 2 of the same system. The last point is key. Players know what the coaches are expecting of them. There's less thinking and more reacting. Steve Clinkscale hinted at this too: a lot more has been added because the players can mentally handle it.
August 18th, 2022 at 5:36 AM ^
Fred Jackson is back on the staff, apparently.
August 18th, 2022 at 7:36 AM ^
Not just the coaches, but the players are hyping up the defense. This isnt coach speak, this isnt some preseason BS. The TEAM feels they are strong on Defense. Adding a talented player to the mix for depth purposes is not a bad thing at all.

You're thinking too hard, Comrade. Michigan has been courting Anoma since the spring. There's a pre-existing relationship due to Biff Poggi and all the St. Frances players. If a former 5* is available, and you have confidence that you can deal with the baggage, why wouldn't you give him a shot to make the roster? More here.

This is the dude who was threatening coaches at Bama. Said he was going to retrieve a firearm from his apartment after they told him he was getting suspended. The entire Bama team hated him, same with his teammates at Houston.

I recall the name from recruiting and vaguely remember him falling away from bama. Hoping some familiar faces can help him with growing.
August 18th, 2022 at 7:54 AM ^
Well, the entire Michigan fanbase and team hates Bama…so this seems like a perfect match!
August 17th, 2022 at 11:34 PM ^
Seriously though, how do you get expelled from Bama???
Seriously though, 2 years at UT Martin with no incidents is a positive. People do mature. And Poggi was his HS coach.
August 18th, 2022 at 12:06 AM ^
Seriously?
I knew absolutely nothing about this kid until I read about him this evening. And now this former 5* could be on the Michigan football team this fall. Craziness. I also hope that whatever demons possessed him at Alabama and Houston are now gone and he can focus on academics and football in an enriching environment. Hoping for the best!
August 18th, 2022 at 12:12 AM ^
In addition to the Biff Poggi connection, it looks like he likely crossed paths with Ryan Osborn, who coached UT Martins D-Line in 2020.
August 18th, 2022 at 8:12 AM ^
This is a win win situation. He either has matured and can eventually help or he hasn’t. Either way it won’t define the season one bit.
I guarantee Biff is personally in charge of the kid. No doubt he went to bat for him so I bet he got “Ok He is on you” speech after
August 18th, 2022 at 9:35 AM ^
And I also bet Biff is up to the challenge
