From a related tweet: “Former five-star EDGE recruit Eyabi Anoma has enrolled at Michigan and is in the school's directory. Former Alabama, Houston, UT Martin player entered the transfer portal on Aug. 15. Letd UT Martin w/ 9.5 sacks last year.”

Haha comrade! Indeed, Anoma was the subject of considerable late recruitment drama between M and Alabama a few years ago: https://mgoblog.com/category/user-tags/eyabi-anoma

A product of Biff Poggi’s program at St. Francis: https://247sports.com/college/michigan/Article/BREAKING-Former-five-star-EDGE-prospect-enrolls-at-Michigan-two-days-after-entering-transfer-portal-Eyabi-Anoma-191714630/

In terms of his arrival at Michigan — surely spearheaded in part by his connection to Poggi — Anoma is listed as a graduate student in Michigan's directory, which may help him attain immediate eligibility. But entering the transfer portal after the NCAA's June 1 deadline to guarantee immediate eligibility and having already transferred twice in his career is cause for some pause.

Has immediate eligibility and is on the roster, according to Josh Henschke: https://twitter.com/JoshHenschke/status/1560098857643831297?s=20&t=A_2n3cZ0NLDz4bcvFsNJzQ

Sources tell Maize & Blue Review that Enoma is immediately eligible but will have to work his way up the depth chart to see the field this season.

Big time if he can play this season. We need edge rushers and he would be perfect. He'd have to work his way up the depth chart, which means he'd be unleashed at the end the year when we needed him most (assuming he can play immediately).

I’m all for this. Harbaugh seems to run a tight ship which he’ll need and he could likely start right away if he’s eligible and will have 3-4 games to ramp up

Seems like a real roll of the dice on a guy that seemingly has had some real problems at previous stops. Hope he's learned from previous stops and it works out both for us and for him.

editing since it turns out he's a grad transfer. Hope he kills it.

Unless he has his degree, in which case the transfer argument still holds up. If he has his degree, he’s being admitted to grad school which is significantly easier for the transfers to do.

At any rate, “ideal transcripts” have never been the issue. Getting credits to transfer over and having enough of those credits transfer over to maintain eligibility is the issue. You can be a straight A student and if your credits don’t transfer over, it’s all for naught.

IF he is a grad transfer, which makes sense as he was probably finishing up summer classes and gain admission into UM so late, it is a pretty impressive accomplishment to get a degree in 4 years (by my count) across 3 schools. That's a serious academic load, along with some generous transfer credits. I love to have that kind of work ethic on the team and will welcome anyone wants to play at UM that badly.

It doesn't suggest that at all.

Whether Eyabi Anoma plays or not, the coaches feel strongly about this year's DL and overall defense.

Harbaugh isn't prone to exaggeration or hyperbole (like Fred Jackson was).

When Harbaugh says this defense can/will be better, it's because this year's team is deeper, more physically mature than last year's team, and is now in year 2 of the same system. The last point is key. Players know what the coaches are expecting of them. There's less thinking and more reacting. Steve Clinkscale hinted at this too: a lot more has been added because the players can mentally handle it.

You're thinking too hard, Comrade. Michigan has been courting Anoma since the spring. There's a pre-existing relationship due to Biff Poggi and all the St. Frances players. If a former 5* is available, and you have confidence that you can deal with the baggage, why wouldn't you give him a shot to make the roster? More here.

This is the dude who was threatening coaches at Bama. Said he was going to retrieve a firearm from his apartment after they told him he was getting suspended. The entire Bama team hated him, same with his teammates at Houston.

Seriously though, how do you get expelled from Bama???

Seriously though, 2 years at UT Martin with no incidents is a positive.  People do mature. And Poggi was his HS coach.

Seriously?

I knew absolutely nothing about this kid until I read about him this evening.  And now this former 5* could be on the Michigan football team this fall.  Craziness.  I also hope that whatever demons possessed him at Alabama and Houston are now gone and he can focus on academics and football in an enriching environment.  Hoping for the best!

This is a win win situation. He either has matured and can eventually help or he hasn’t. Either way it won’t define the season one bit.

I guarantee Biff is personally in charge of the kid. No doubt he went to bat for him so I bet he got “Ok He is on you” speech after
