Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling: Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:

  • SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop.
  • Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
  • Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
  • Tony Garcia: Same deal. Sparty the Freep hired to be a troll.
  • Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Recently booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
  • Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas.

This thread is ill advised, a direct attack against a kid's performance; he doesn't deserve to be trashed this way. It's also a rehash of the Jett Crash thread which was also deemed a problem.

Would one of the mods please take a look and see if it's worthy of remaining up?

I don’t care that it gets deleted, but the idea that it was an attack on Jett is absurd. It was an objective take on how the team played with and without him and never went near the rhetoric used by Brian himself on the podcast where he called Jett a net negative who played “loser basketball.”

Again, I point to XM's open hostility for basically no reason in response, in addition to the original thread he linjked, in which he went straight for the ad hominem.

This is pretty abhorrent behavior from a poster generally well-regarded, and as someone who has also been here for a long period of time and has rarely, if ever engaged with XM for a number of years, I'm not going to stand for it.

I dug through a LOT of posts after seeing this and have come to the conclusion that my best course of action is simply to say this:

Play nice!

 

You stated to XM at 11:12 am (and essentially said the same thing in the 2017 Jourdan Lewis thread that was brought up) what I'll quote in the next paragraph. It looked to me more or less that you were stating the argument was ending with an "agree to disagree" impasse:

"I'm really not sure where your hostility is coming from, nor does the linked thread unfold in the way you describe above. Just going to turn the other cheek and also wish you a nice day"

...and then a few minutes later made your second complaint (both of which complaints I noticed just a few hours ago).

While maybe there was some basis for you having been offended, there's certainly not enough there for me to take further action.

Thanks Rob, totally agree and understand. Just wanted to bring to your awareness that there's a pattern here and apparently some internalized grievance XM has maintained that I don't fully understand (and don't feel as if I've earned). I didn't particularly appreciate being taken to task totally out of the blue and in such a harsh manner for a long-ago exchange I didn't recall, and which upon further review, wasn't anything like XM stated it to have been.

Thanks for your hard work. Trying to play nice and turn the other cheek, and feel that I have. I hope XM chooses differently and does the same in the future.

bando, you are lying again.  stop it and stop sniveling to the mods when you get caught lying.  and this morning you said 'turn the other cheek' to my 'have a good day' and then you went and bothered the mods after me.  another lie by you.

the exchange you had was with many on the board that night and it was exactly as i remembered it.  you took about a 200+ neg bomb and were so mad you said you would stop posting altogether.  you have lurked and neg'd me for years since then, no big deal to me, but stop lying about your 'grievance' - you are the one who got smoked and it happened again yesterday and today. 

i offer you this though:  if you want to take me to task for something, do it for a reason and do it to my cyber-face and not sniveling behind someone's back. 

i wish you well and yet again turn the other cheek for real, not like your earlier false claim.  suggest you turn the other cheek for real this time.  you good with that?  peace?

There's no reason for any of this. Again, I do not get what any of this is about or where your hostility here and in your response to me in the other thread ~4PM is coming from all of the sudden. Nor does the thread you keep referring to actually seem to contain what you says it does.

Rob has asked us to behave, and I'm trying to do so. You continue to press this in the most confrontational and irrationally angry way possible, with typical insults and bad feelings. Rob, I'm sorry that this continues to be an issue. I'm trying my best to quell an escalating situation and what seems to be a poster with a much larger ax to grind, for reasons I don't really get.

XM, I thought you might understand when I invoked "turning the other cheek." I am trying to do so. I ask you do the same. Have a good evening.

Pointing to this latest hostile instance from Darker Blue and XM's continued hostile and bafflingly inaccurate mischaracterizations about what I posted in the thread he seems to be concerned with (initially brought up as a means to incite other posters to attack me), I wonder if this is really the kind of community we want to foster here. 

There's a reason why I'm not nearly as active here as I once was, because this kind of abusive behavior continues to be pervasive and accepted on the MGoBoard, and has been for years. It's not OK. And I'm not the only one to notice. It's disappointing.

 And Darker Blue's post?  Being 3rd man in is uncalled for and he's earned my scolding and a downvote.  I'd delete it but your above post would disappear along with it as would mine.

I enjoy many of the posts of all three of you guys and have no intention of doing anything other than requesting a truce, for you guys to just agree to disagree.

Are we good with that?

I'm good with that, but it would be nice if it were acknowledged that this is more than just a "disagreement" of equal measure. XM has gone out of his way, repeatedly, to be rude and accusatory for seemingly no reason. He has fabricated things I did not do or say, and repeatedly invoked them while calling me a liar. I appreciate what you do, Rob, but I don't see this as equivocal behavior. I've been here since the Haloscan days. I don't appreciate being called names or being denigrated. When I disagree with someone, I use complete sentences and cogent thoughts. I don't make it personal.

In the end, it seems my sin here was... posting in a thread XM started, in which I never even engaged with him until he brought me up out of the blue in response to another poster, who never brought me up.

I'm sorry to make this a thing, but it's incredibly frustrating to feel like you're not being heard when someone else is pretty clearly the aggressor.

I examined and reexamined the posts in question yesterday (including the 2017 thread where everything apparently stems from [---or was there a previous disagreement?]) and don't see exactly what and where the beef is that's kept this thing going at this point for 6 years. Am I missing something in the last 6 years that's added layers to the spat between the 2 of you?  Were possibly a post/ posts deleted from that old thread or the most recent dispute prior to my intervention?  

Yes, I sense great frustration from both you and XM. Best solution, IMO, is for the two of you to simply disengage.

The dots in my "investigation" aren't connecting. Unless you have something concrete to link that can greatly clarify things, I'm not sure what else I can do or suggest.

This particular meme/gif is verboten on the MGoBoard.  I'm removing it from EGJ's post on the Hello: Jadyn Davis! board thread and directing further questions here.

Simply put, we're not going to allow for posts that are inherently offensive to the MGoViewership.  And this isn't the first time posting of that particular meme has been addressed; I remember seeing it discussed in one of the previous mod sticky threads, plus those type of posts have been addressed by both Brian and Seth in the board FAQ and in the OP of the mod sticky.

I find nothing wrong with the article's reporting. The same points you made in your comment about the limitations of the justice system were made in the article itself. The victim-blaming and rush to defend the program in the face of a life destroyed was a terrible look; I refuse to host that. Regardless of what Michigan/Ann Arbor Police/Harbaugh can and cannot do, a woman was raped by a Michigan player, and several other Michigan players, at least one of whom remained with the team and played in 2021, were present.

in general I would disagree with turning off comments. This is a horrible tragedy. But since you indicated too many of them were victim blaming then i can understand your response.  

A better approach would be to turn the comments back on, moderate the debate, and in some cases ban any victim blamers. Sure it’s work for two days.  But rape by football players is far too common. It’s a problem worth discussing. It’s a problem we read about too often and sadly one that exists even at my local public high school.

Man, I was hoping for a diary-worthy study here, but the guy just looked at five guys from the class of 2018 who are currently in the NFL. The kicker was when he compared a TE who became an OT to "not drafted" Luke Schoonmaker, who's probably going to be one of the top TEs in the draft.

I liked the discussion below, but the OP was unsalvageable. I really hope that guy is never in a position where his understanding of information leads to important decisions, because WOW.
