Yes! And well into the 60s,…

Yes! And well into the 60s, there were major clubs and prestigious hotels that refused service and/or rooms to Jews. It's one of the reasons that Floyd Patterson used the Grossinger's resort (Borscht Belt Jewish) for his training camp: he was welcomed there.

Most people paint their…

Most people paint their prejudices, their biases/opinions, their distrusts, etc. with brushes that are much too wide. Reasoned discourse, careful analyses has/have always been the exception rather than the norm. Today's social and political climate is no different. Sad ...

Yes, I'd heard the same…

Yes, I'd heard the same things about Schmeling from people deep inside the fight game from that era. Political pawn? Correct description. I would have used the words, reluctant symbol.

Technically? It was to…

Technically? It was to demonstrate the superiority of the "Aryan Race".

And, along the same lines of Hitler's Aryan Supremacy theme, you also need to look at the two fights between Joe Louis (the Brown Bomber) and Hitler's fav, Max Schmeling.

Yankee Stadium for both bouts.

1936, Schmeling knocks Louis out in round 12. New York weeps.

1938, Louis destroys Schmeling in the first round. New York, all of America, rejoices.

Well, he could have talked…

Well, he could have talked about "slam dunking it out of the park", he didn't, so there's that... 😉

WC? I can do this all day ... you might want to want to rethink your current behaviors toward me and others.

Thank you, Obi-Wan. 😉

Thank you, Obi-Wan. 😉

My biggest question,…

My biggest question, currently, is do I start today with a plain or an egg bagel? I mean, there are so many decisions I have to power through that it's a bit overwhelming.

🤣  👏

I've got to hear how you work verklempt into one of your Sunday sermons!

Please accept my most…

Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. It was beautiful that you and your family could give the man such a loving farewell.

Edit/add: I've had a few minutes to think about what I wanted to say to you publicly and it's this: having buried two parents who were under my care, under my legal and moral umbrella? What you and your gem did was a wonderful thing; and you are probably both sad and "relieved" that his suffering and indignity is over.

If you're anything like I know you to be, I suspect that your memories of the man will "clarify" and settle into who he really was, that is, someone who was much more than the frail and helpless man you shaved and otherwise tended to at the end.

Time for you, your gem, his grandchildren to grieve his passing --- then vigorously celebrate the family that he helped create that you currently enjoy.

I will light a candle ...

If I am wrong, I sincerely…

If I am wrong, I sincerely apologize; I am skeptical, however, of abuse allegations that are considered worthy of formal charges and the granting of a TRO ---- and then get dropped quickly. Especially when the defendant apologizes for his behavior.

Morris was arrested in April…

Quoting:

"Morris was arrested in April 2020 on charges of assault, harassment and obstruction of breathing or blood circulation involving Summer. He allegedly repeatedly kicked and hit her and put his hand over her mouth, according to a criminal complaint.

Morris also was separately charged with violating an order of protection against her when he reportedly showed up in the hallway outside of her apartment a few weeks after the alleged attack."

I have never understood the attraction of betting on the outcome of something over which you have zero control or influence. This makes no sense to me. 🤷‍♂️      Oh well ... another one of life's mysteries.

Lol. Those are truly awesome stats and that website is great, thank you! 😂

BTW, do they still teach the stats example of "the high certainty" correlation between polio and hot tar? Famous paper from the 50s that was a big ahah lesson for decades?

Uh, Scooby, ma man?  You have also been known to opine well, using words (and pitchers), about datasets which correlate with winning fuhbaw games. So that there 99% numbah might need sum rethinning, 😉.

There are several, fairly…

There are several fairly common scenarios. A spouse inherits a very large estate; someone's portfolio explodes in value or benefits from a small startup's runaway IPO etc.. It's possible to make it through the post-nup process, being open and honest, with no hard feelings.

In each instance, someone wants to protect themselves from the (future) vagaries of a marital master's "fair share" interpretation(s) or the issues involved in relocating from an equitable distribution to a community property state.

Fog happens. Preparing is prudent.

I thought it was BENCH MASON…

I thought it was BENCH MASON, no? 😉

Not an attorney, just well…

Not an attorney, just well versed across numerous convos and decades.

Post-nups are extremely effective, sometimes even more than ante-nups for various reasons. Neither party can claim the doc was signed as an unpleasant prerequisite to the marriage; it's an agreement between existing partners. Just be prepared to disclose everything. Failing to do that makes the post-nup an easily discarded instrument.

Disclosure: Have been exposed to numerous divorces of very high net worth couples, I've seen how they play out --- at the detail level.

FYIRegarding divorce in MI:…

FYI

Regarding divorce in MI: Michigan is not a "community property" state, but an "equitable distribution" state.

"Michigan divorce laws regarding division of assets classify property as either "marital" or "separate". Generally, marital property is subject to distribution while separate property isn't. When dividing property, the first thing courts need to determine is: into which one of those categories property items fall."

Looks like the husband, without a court ruling, has already made his determination what category these monies comprise. If the accounts were held individually, this sort of "early" money movement is not uncommon. If it is or was in a joint account, that's a completely other matter. Like everything else about Tucker, this one is going to be, uh, "messy". (sorry could not avoid that word/image ;-) )

As I've mentioned before, a tight ante-nuptial agreement is frequently a good idea, especially when one partner brings large assets into the marriage and/or makes significantly more $$$ than the other.

Either a C8 ZR1 (when it finally goes into production). Or. A Lucid Sapphire, because 1,234 HP seems about right for a big, comfy EV sedan with 500 miles of range.

One of the things that might be good to put on the board is the ability for a thread creator to say "Yikes, on second thought? Never mind!" - And delete his/her thread.  I know I can go back and edit a simple comment down to a <nvm> or something similar.

I'm sure there are permissions issues that make something like that problematic - but it might save some wear and tear on the board's "parents". Even my own kids learned to put themselves in the time out chair.

Just a suggestion ...

I'm thinking that the above thread doesn't belong on the board? Mods, take a look? 🙂

Thank you, WCB --- and…

Thank you, WCB --- and everyone.

This is a pretty trying time: about 77 years ago, my family was involved in shipping "items" (illegally, of course) to a tiny little place on the globe so that this tiny little place could defend itself against what was understood to be coming. 77 years later? We've got more scheiss.

Repeat: thank you, WCB - and everyone. Your understanding and good wishes mean more than you can imagine!

Yep. That's a plausible…

Yep. That's a plausible explanation too.

I've been thinking about his…

I've been thinking about his not wearing any M gear, and I think it may have been too soon post-departure to do so. Coach obviously loved playing here and coaching here but that last year (or a bit more) was probably a pretty bitter or conflicted time for him. Between the NCAA and the B1G nonsense? Had to be a bit like trying to enjoy the perfect tropical beach vacation spot next to a failing sewage treatment plant.

Having been the only child (of four) willing to care for and protect my mother and father over the course of about 10 years? You each have my absolute sympathies, understanding, and huge respect. It's heart breaking work --- that has to be done.

The end, when it comes, is not a bang, it's more of an exhausted whimper. Again, sorry!

Don't know Doyel, never read anything by him. It's good that he's apologized. Now, he just needs to stop and think before ...

Damn, that's got to require a long conversation with his boss and HR.

He was (probably still is) a nice guy from my brief interactions with him.

The really fun part is sitting privately and quietly with pros who trust you enough to know you're not going to repeat anything. That's when you a great sense of the game from the inside.

Became friendly with several…

Became friendly with several retired Red Sox players in the aughts.

Henderson actually did a late-in-career stint with an International League ball club trying to show that he could still play. I'm sitting in the stands at a minor league park with two of these Sox ex-players, one being a pitcher. Henderson draws a walk and my pitcher buddy starts muttering, "this phucker is going to third". Poor young guy on the mound didn't have a chance.

Yep - steals both second and third. After the game, we meet up with Henderson, and the old pros start yakking away - and yes, Henderson starts talking about himself as "Rickey saw this", "Rickey did that".

Yes, that happened. Lol.
