playing around with the pairwise- you are the committee we are either the 10 or 11 (with UNO):
-if we win we are the 10
-if we lose a couple games matter, it will depend on the results from the denver/UNO and cornell/st. lawrence,. if UNO wins, I'm pretty sure they jump us to the 10. If UNO loses, we need cornell to win
As part of army rotc when I was at michigan we flew in a chinook over to fort Custer. A bunch of us fell asleep. I always assumed it was due to be very tired college students combined with the vibration of the helicopter and kind of white noise of the rotors. To wake us up when we got close to the base, the pilot put us in a short free fall. Definitely wakes you up.
Though we mention how penalized this team is, I haven't seen much blame on the coaching staff. Head hits and too many man penalties (this team takes way too many of both) can both be corrected with coaching. Otherwise everything on the coaching side seems positive from an outside ovserver. Minus the lack of a goaltending coach.
we're up 3-0 and they're still forechecking with a 1-3-1. we could just play keep away in our own zone and they would let us. really tough hockey to win from behind
I decided to look at the last 10 years of NCAA tournaments (excluding 21 when pairwise wasn’t used) if the #1 seeds hosted on their home ice. Team, location, and arena capacity listed:
Thank you Seth. I did mean 9, but yeah. That all makes sense, especially since it has usually taken a large donor to get men's programs up at like Penn State. In your opinion, is there anything an alum of less means than say Mr. Pegula can do to try to encourage the university to get there?
I agree, expense is certainly an issue. Having said that, we know Michigan has just about as much athletic dept cash as anywhere in the country. And most sports other than football basketball are losing money. But a whole new hockey facility, if that is truly required instead of somehow making due with Yost and/or the dozens of other arenas in area, is a tall order.
It seems a little odd to me that there are no D1 programs and only one D3 program (Adrian) in the entire state. Do you or anyone else know how competitive club programs like what Michigan and MSU currently have would be with a D3 or D1 program? I'm assuming there is a large skill gap there.
odd that out of the teams available with us having the #1 overall seed: bemidji (maybe?), AIU, and Harvard. I'd prefer AUI. Harvard has an olympic goal scorer.
tweet from buccisgross, he's plugged in well with NHL GMs he mentions these 3 as they had points on the first goal (rumor is NJ is fine with hughes staying another year):
I would think Brisson will join @GoldenKnights when Michigan’s season ends either next weeks or at Frozen Four (April 7-9). Beniers will be with the @SeattleKraken. Hughes is having monster freshman DMan season. 17-20-37 in 38 games.
slightly OT, but interesting and with hockey. it looks like at least a couple of minnesota's olympians are back tonight, but not knies. as already noted elsewhere, michigan's us players are back but not playing and canadians will be back monday.
with them packing the house on the their pk, im not sure why were sending 1 and sometimes 2 guys to the front of the net on the pp. just adds to the congestion.
What are the reasons if Long were to go pro, that he would leave and Hill stay? Or conversely, the reasons Hill is staying? Just curious as I thought they were pretty comparable players, size and results.
Thank you for these interviews, great way to learn about something we can vote on. Could we get this a little earlier than 1 day out perhaps next, if there is a next time? I am sure you are all busy people though, and perhaps that was not possible. And having this available to listen to is better than not at all.
7 or 8. Most important to me the program has not appeared to go backwards. Qb, ot, and wr have been disappointing so far position wise, with qb having some circumstances. Rivalry record rough but also competitive. Has made the coaching changes that seemed apparent. Like him as the coach and a guy, the way things are going on general seems positive and on an upward trend to me, almost all positions performing well and building depth. So though some close misses preventing him from being great, no major complaints at all, especially for college football where so much is changing all time.
Public embarrassment is a de-motivator for weak people. Though, tough to control how that motivation will be used by a stonger person, possibly against oneself. Have to know what type of person you're dealing with.
So this is a bit off topic, but I found it a little too funny to not share. A close family member holds a NCAA pool every year. It's a decent size one, over 3400 entries this year. Well, we noticed that our favorite basketball writer Graham Couch is entered (Possibly a different one, but this pool is run from the lansing area...). He entered 2 brackets and did not pay for his entries. His champion picks? Arizona and Virginia.
I didn't read through all the comments so appologies if this has been discussed. Any chance it is the type of ball they are using? I thought I heard the ball they use for the tournament is different thean what is used all year (most places, as schools use their own balls during regular season). I heard this brought up when a couple announcers were talking about how many balls have been wedged against the rim this tournament, saying the ball used for thr tourny is stickier than that of those normally used. I never played any basketball at all so maybe this has little to no affect, but possibly either the ball itself being more sticky or the players just not as used to it.
I think Harbaugh knows how good of a team they have this year as is preparing for any possible issues This year. If the worst happens, and injuries or something depletes a position all the way to the true freshman, he wants them to have as much experience as possible. Putting the marbles in a basket so to speak, the value of redshirt this year < the possibility of what can be accomplished this year.
sorry to hijack here, didnt think the merrited a new post. does anyone know where i can find the "The Team" video that is played before games this year? thank in advance
you have to try out to make a D1 varsity sport? color me shocked, wait I tried out for just about every team I played for starting around the age of 7 or 8
I'd like someone to ask Mel Pearson his opinion, might get a nice quote. He was around for some of these rumors and was kind of considered a coach in waiting by some (though I believe he was told that he needed head coaching experience, not sure how accurate that is though).
what in the HELL was he thinking attempting a high cross ice pass with an empty net, he is completely worthless. probably get the game tying goal if we get one...
that too many men i'm pretty sure is on franzen who couldn't catch up after giving up the puck. backcecking on the 2 on 2 he trails off to the bench but didn't get off like he should of and zetty jumped out assuming he would get off and then hopefully go take a seat in the lockerroom

it's almost as if portillo's hand-eye has gone to crap. literally hasn't contained 1 shot yet tonight.
according to michigan hockey twitter, the game will be on btn+ for those who subscribe
they're in more of a 1-2-2 now i guess, but still.

with Harvard win they are ahead of AIU in pairwise. We will play AIU unless Bemidji wins. Ohio state done, have fun golfing.

MSU wins 2-1 in overtime. Harvard still up 2-1 in the 3rd to keep ohio state out. Duluth up 2-0 on WMU
Bemidji and Minnesota State heading to overtime tied at 1.
that was a strong kill, goaltending has been great
2 for lifting a players stick... this league is a joke when it comes to refs
Duke from Samo 3-1!

MSU ties it up 1-1
Bemidji State takes the 1-0 lead on Minn. State.
40 hours of travel over the last couple days for beniers and brisson, so says the broadcast

just their current pairwise rankings
As of today i think these are the worst match-ups for michigan come tournament time:
(4) w. mich
(3) Denver
---
(16) bu
(5) minn
---
(2) minn st
(12) notre dame ?
As confident as possible in 1 game elimination hockey against the rest of the country.

theres a stream on onhockey.tv now
I thought Kinnel had a rough game compared to him, was I mistaken or did they both have rough games?

It looked like he took a bit of a shot to the upper body on this play right before Martinez takes off.
