The offensive staff needs a shakeup. The offense has been badly mismanaged so far, and I know it will take some time to fix. But it's not clear the direction that they are going or what their identity will be, and right now they are bad at everything.
(1) U of M would have to recover the onside kick and then fumble it. If Michigan State had successfully recovered the onside kick, the ball would have been dead and the game would have been over the moment they possessed the ball, with no chance to run it back.
(2) If MSU kicked the extra point, and somehow, Michigan had recovered the onside kick and then fumbled it, and Michigan State had run it back for a touchdown, Michigan State would still win provided that they could kick the extra point. Unless your kicker is awful, making two extra points in a row isn't nearly as difficult as a two-point conversion.
(3) There are two possibilities: either Mark Dantonio either dumb enough that addition and subtraction escape him, or he didn't have any hope of winning and simply wanted to be able to say that the lost by less than a touchdown. Either possibility is awesome.
Not a skin-of-our-teeth win. Only felt that way because we were mentally spotting Sparty 7 points for a crazy last-second play even when it made no sense.
Your first point is valid. It would be a slightly bigger story going into The Game if both Michigan and Ohio State were undefeated. It would have a nice symmetry with the 2006 season, 10 years afterward. However, for it to be to have been a #1 vs #2 matchup, Alabama would have needed to lose.
I don't see how the fact that OSU lost at Penn State makes them more dangerous. I would say it makes them less dangerous, because OSU has had some weaknesses exposed on their offensive line.
I actually don't feel too bad about the offensive line in run blocking. I do feel more concerned about pass blocking, because third and long in this game was usually a non-starter.
Also, Rich Rod brought in plenty of poor players from the swamps of Florida, and although a lot of them were a joy to watch, it wasn't exactly a panacea for the program.

Also, people are complaining so much about the run game. I don't get it. Michigan ran for five yards a carry against a team that was giving up 9.56 yards per attempt in the passing game. We didn't have a lot of rushing yards because moving the ball in the air was super easy all day. I just don't think the offense was in any way the problem in this game.
I do not know of this Rodriquez coach with great offense and horrible defense. I know another coach by a very similar name who coached at Michigan a while back.
I thought Rudock was one of the worst QBs in the B1G. I thought he would never complete a deep pass. I wondered if he was injured. I even wondered if Andrew Luck was just Andrew Luck and Harbaugh wasn't a great quarterbacks coach. For that, I deserve nothing but negs.
The ACC job where you can draw all the wrong conlusions from game tape and not get fired is "replay official". HAS is referring to the replay officials that failed to overturn Miami's touchdown over Duke.
We already have top 25 running backs. Isaac and Green were both top 5 running backs in their years. The problem is that they just keep failing to pan out.
It's like we're down by two at half through a series of plays on defense that seem kind of unsustainable and everyone wants to panic put Shane Morris in. Remember the last time we put Morris in against Minnesota?

But it hasn't been a dogfight every year. You only have to look as recently as 2013 and 2014 to see that.

Western Michigan is 2-0 against the B1G, Sparty is 0-2. Also, IU's defense may be the best in the state of Indiana. Let that sink in for a bit.

Michigan eventually ended up with 340 yards in that game. Nowhere near the offensive debacle that Ohio State just created.
Brady Hoke definitely did a terrible job coaching me. I've had to unlearn a lot of what I learned from him about yelling at the TV.
