They are recruiting well. Even if Bates doesn’t show up this kid probably will. If Bates’ scholarship opens up it will likely be filled by a talented recruit. At best it keeps Juwan on his toes. At worst Izzo gets a second and then winds down.

So ADs across the nation are supposed to be surprised by this but not Jim Harbaugh's salary which is at least 50% greater? Lovie Smith makes $4M on a contract signed in 2018. Its not that crazy and who cares, less money they can spend on other things.

He doesn't actually click on the site so it might be more enjoyable to come up with something fun for the rest of us to read.

Comments on this site used to at least try to be clever. Now its really no different than RCMB. Just a bunch of over caffeinated bros hurling four letter insults. I for one nominate Brian Kelly to be their next coach. The games are more fun when there are characters to root against.

Going out on top in major conference sports is the exception not the rule. This is likely a positive for Sparty in the long-run unless they offer Rich Rod.

Duncan Robinson continues to…

Duncan Robinson continues to be one of the more unlikely success stories for UofM athletics. Even if its a gimmick contest it would still be pretty cool to have that trophy on the mantel .

Was pleased with the original gameplan. Obviously Alabama made the correct adjustments, maintained their composure and went about their business in the second half. Very hard to beat a Saban Alabama team without forcing turnovers and hitting the big play. At the end of the day this is just an exhibition game. Playing a meaningful bowl next year is the only goal that matters.

These insider phrases created by Brian are so tired. Maybe we shouldn't be following the example of someone trying to shove Pitbull down our throats.

This season is not even…

This season is not even close to being over. Let’s just start with a win over Rutgers. If we can follow that with a big win against Iowa there will be a lot of people jumping back on the wagon.

Views are clouded

People's hatred for MSU does not allow for clear thinking. The NCAA will not do anything of note. They may adjust some minor rules going forward and call it a day. First, this is not about MSU. Bridges seems to be the smallest matter here by monetary terms. Do people really think college basketball will come down hard on Coach K? Let alone Izzo and the other coaches? Has anyone noticed Sean Miller coaching on the sidelines for Arizona this year? We have to think "systems" here. The system is overseen by the NCAA. If the system doesn't work whose fault is that? It surely should not be placed at the feet of a few players, or parents accepting less than $1,000 in some cases. We have seen that institutions and organizations (again MSU) do not want to investigate themselvess. Coming down hard on these programs would cause a huge amount of backlash and lead to close scrutiney of the NCAA.

I could be wrong, but we should focus less on Bridges (who could be a millionaire today, not a $400aire) and think about what will mean to amateur basketball. My bet is that the NCAA would rather not go down that road.

Fun game to watch

This was an excellent college bball game. This was a tough loss, but I do subscribe to moral victories. Keep this going in the right direction and eventually we will come out on the right side of these close games.

Tell us, what other conspiracy theories do you subscribe to?

This State News editorial does a good job of assigning blame to the people at the top and MSU will continue to be tainted by this horrible situation. However, we need to stop acting like the students and alumni of MSU are materially different than those at UofM. We are literally neighbors, family members, and many people have been and will be affiliated with both institutions. Let the investigations continue and hand out punishment to those who deserve it. In the end it will be best for everyone, including UofM, that MSU reforms, hires new and capable admins that work towards healing the community and putting in place the structures that will prevent, not only this, but any abuse to happen.

We shouldn't hope for the scandal to widen

As a human we should hope that there were less people complicit than more. As UofM fans I don't see how bringing down the broader MSU and by extension hurting the Big Ten is a good thing. Yes, the investigation will go on and will probably result in the removal of high level administrators. Having our main rival get the death penalty in all sports, like some are suggesting, is not only ridculous but short-sighted for our long-term goals of winning on the field and playing the best of the best.

Really stinks only 1 game at the Breslin

If we happen to lose I guess there is still a chance for a rematch in DC.

Good for Tre

His basketball story may not be over yet.

The MSU game will be a healthy barometer

Of assessing where this team is at and where it can go. Don't be fooled by 2 poor games from MSU, they have a pretty good track record this year of getting it done. Even their Duke loss was very competitive. The OSU game really hinged on a couple minutes before the end of the half when MSU completely froze up. MSU does not have to bring their A game to win at the Breslin, but its hard to imagine Izzo won't have them ready for a Saturday game at noon.

Keys of the game:

Mo cannot get destroyed at the defensive end by Ward.

Matthews should look to attack the basket.

Cannot play hero ball at the end of the clock.

Role players must produce.

Prediction: MSU 82 - UofM 74

Could be similar to MSU in 2012

MSU in 2012 went 7-6 despite a very good defense due to poor QB play. In 2013 they returned 15-16 starters, found a QB out of nowhere and went on to have the best non-OSU BIG 10 season since the '97 UofM Championship team.

While 13-1 maybe a longshot given the assumed strength of the conference in 2018, this is an example of turnaround that can happen when you have an elite D.

Next year

Obviously next year will change on the field. But seems like a legit tough schedule. The worst teams include NEB, who should get better, and Maryland that didn't have a QB this year. Northwestern scoring between Purdue and Indiana is shocking given their record.

ND- 13

Western- 74

SMU- 67

NEB- 103

NW- 46

Maryland- 114

Wisc- 6

MSU- 19

PSU- 4

Rutgers- 110

IU- 51

OSU- 2

CFP in the crystal ball?

Why not? We have the next 8 months for unbridled optimism. Only up from here.

Are we still saying we were superior to MSU this year?

Pretty sure we were only winning in the first Q 3-0. That game was at home and we were big favorites. They proved to be better this year. Same thing with USC. Better record, and they beat us on a neutral field. Next year may very well be different, but let's not kid ourselves.

Go blue!

Let's all at least agree That Jim should not go out of his way to start spats with other coaches, teams or fan bases for awhile. Only works when you are coming from a position of strength. If someone takes a shot at him, then maybe he can respond. Or maybe he should eat it for now until the situation improves.
Locker room issues

I wonder how much games like this impact the leadership in the locker room. For Peters it might be tough to regain his teammates' confidence. Time will tell if there were some player issues that led to the team being so flat after weeks of practice. Bad QB play really seemed to poison the MSU team last year, along with some really bad actors. Could be a year to clean house if that's the case and start 2018 with just the guys who really want to be here.

We need to stop our group think

This blog is always searching for positive validation like Joe Klatt telling us we are playoff contenders. But we never stop and accept when other analysis suggests we are not that great. This has to be the point in which our blue colored glasses are removed. I don't want to hear how we are back following meaningless early season accomplishments. This team cannot be mentioned as a top program until success is sustained. If we don't win at least 2 Big Ten titles in the next 5 years we are no better than the 5th or 6th best program in the conference.

Elite QB When will Michigan get an elite QB? I mean first round talent. It's been awhile. At least we don't have scholarship remorse on Messiah.
Fair enough Just wish the papers in Michigan could get better beat writers and better overall media personalities than these clowns.
Independent, unbiased sports journalism is nearing the end The point was that there are no resources to develop the kind of unbiased sports writing we used to have. More and more people will get their info from sanctioned, fan inspired outlets like 11 warriors or mgoblog. Just because it's more enlightening doesn't mean it's not a form of quasi propaganda. If you don't think so I suggest you look closer at the banner on top.
Couch is dumb. Poll means nothing. Sports journalism is almost dead. Couch is a symptom not the cause. Look at the skill level of the rest of the official sports media in the state. Soon all sports writing will be homerism a la Mgoblog. Forgetting a 10-25 team in December is not the end of the world though. These polls aren't even a factor in tourney seating.
Slow start leading to a comfy win 27-10
The OP seems to be suggesting That we should take pride in Durkin's "success" at Maryland? He is 10-15 since arriving and his team lost their last game 66-3. He better be focused on keeping his current job.
They should prolly scrap their BBall team

Because if they win anything of note this whole gymnastics scandal will result in banners coming down. That's how it works, right?

Let's leave the conspiracy theories

To other websites. This is just a sad story which reminds us even the little things can have serious consequences. Some of these stories deepen certain posters' MSU derangement syndrome or "MSUDS".

B10 East

Does he mean Top 3 in the Big 10 east? How do these early rankings even work? Are they trying to guess the ratings at the end of the season, or how talented they think they are at the jump? There is no way in the world the Big 10 east will get 3 teams in the top ten by the end of the year.

Also, just thinking about that last sentance without PSU even listed just shows how imbalanced the divisions are.

Gotta Respect

I must respect a guy that wears the same shirt and a whole lot of makeup every day. He always looks like he's got the alcohol sweats. This Deadspin video reviewing bad pizzas is great in its earnestness.

AUA&M Logo

I like their alphabetic logo. Weirdly fascinating.

PSU Re-emergence

In addition to OSU I think we need to have clear eyes in realizing that PSU is going to be a major threat. Unlike MSU kids grow up dreaming to play there. You can make the case that Joe Pa (aside from the scandal) hindered the team over his last decade, just by being old and out of touch (no pun intended). Now that the sanctions have come and gone they are starting to roll a bit. I know people don't think they will be great next year because of losses, but don't be so sure. That Sanders kid is really good, losing Barkley won't be the end of the world for them.

OSU Reloads

No rebooting, retooling or rebuilding. That team is a midwest recruiting monster. Let's string together a couple wins vs. the buckeyes and I am sure we will start pulling comparable classes.

QB in the next class

Will there be another QB accepted in the next class? Specifically if Doyle sends in his LOI. Not much playing time to go around. Minnesota and Maryland should be forced to accept our leftovers, for the sake of B10 watchers everywhere.

Boom Bust Program

That program must be one heck of a ride to follow.

Ball Brand

Who doesn't want to be associated with this family?

Good ol' Roy

Should have contemplated retiring after last season. Never gonna top that, only one way to go when you are at the top.

Do the crime, do the time
