Requiem for The Team

Requiem for The Team

Dumbassery at its finest - I…

Dumbassery at its finest - I think it was when Minter left MichiganNation2 tweeted that Jim Harbaugh should be banned from AA.

I would spend 15 minutes on…

I would spend 15 minutes on this:  write an email laying out your frustrations and dissatisfaction with service/product; offer to pay $_____ (i.e., < final bill) as final amount ending relationship.  If you're okay paying the full amount then what's the harm.  You don't have to get into a back-and-forth regardless of what the attorney's response is.  Fifteen minutes and move on, possibly with a discount (or something closer to what you think is reasonable based on your experience).

My dad was diagnosed with…

My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's when he was about 58 years old.  His father and, in hindsight, his father's father all had it too.  My dad rarely drinks and hasn't smoked since he was 19.  It's devastating at times - my children were in awe when I told them how my dad did clap pushups everyday while I sat on his back as a youngster.

The one thing all three men have in common, besides genetics which I'm sure plays some part (and I think about constantly) is that they all spent 25-35+ years on GM assembly lines.  Boxing and voice exercises certainly help and medication is key.  But the medications seem to be trial-and-error as there's no one-size-fits-all prescription.  On top of Parkinson's, my dad also has lupus and was diagnosed this week with a readily treatable type of lymphoma.  He turns 64 next month; he was a master at classic car restoration and won many awards for 55-57 Chevys and pre-war Fords.

I know I'm venting but it's so incredibly nice that I can feel comfortable on this page letting some of this out.  Too often I think about how lucky I was to have a hardworking father who breathed unknown chemicals and handled industrial glues and paints without a mask (in the 70's and 80's especially) to give his family a better life.  I'm forever thankful to the UAW.  Too often I think about how the since demolished factories in Lansing must be the cause of all my dad's ailments.  It feels like once a month my parents share another name of a former GM employee who has hand tremors or diagnosed Parkinson's.

Thanks, OP, for giving us all a space on this topic.

Harbaugh's gone.  I coach my…

Harbaugh's gone.  I coach my kids to have killer competitive instincts and good sportsmanship.  It's the selective enforcement and relativism which rightly get (Michigan) folks upset.

Calmer than you are, dude.

I bet you give your kids…

I bet you give your kids actual coal for Christmas.

You probably complain about the liquor options at an open bar.

You've likely used your own tool from Amazon on a deli punch card to get free chips.

What I'm trying to say is I bet you're fun at parties.

Not taking a side on this…

Not taking a side on this one; just reporting what I know:  $30 for a CS video on Cameo.  Some UM dudes I know (and went to Houston with) said this about the video they purchased:  "It was great.  CS is an absolute bro."

Obligatory pile-on.  You're…

Obligatory pile-on.  You're missing the point.  The DOJ getting involved, in my opinion, substantially moves the needle on recognizing student-athletes' economic rights, which in turn moves forward the contract/union/employee position.

I went to Houston by myself…

I went to Houston by myself.  I told the Michigan fans behind me that we'd never see each other again but I'd never forget them - then I hugged each one of them with both arms.  Being by myself, I shed a tear (or two) but internalized most of my overwhelming emotions that evening.  Today while driving, all the joy, anguish, letdown, hope and everything else that Brian, Seth et al. shared on the pod came pouring out.  In that teary moment, I realized just how much I appreciate and am grateful for this space.

Thank you, Brian.  Thank you, Seth.  Thank you, Jim.  Thank you, TEAM.

I've grown to prefer GameTime.  Here's a screenshot I just took a few minutes ago.  This endzone seems to have more tickets at better prices.

I think it was Rod Moore,…

I think it was Rod Moore, not Junior.  He was crashing into the line while maintaining position for a cutback.  He and Mike seemed in position to slam the door shut on the left side of O line.

EDIT:  Here's a view

Tell her to stop doing stuff…

Tell her to stop doing stuff to 'be a lawyer' now.  Have fun; keep getting good grades.  Go to college; spend all summer between sophomore and junior year (re)exploring law.  Only go to law school if it's free or most mostly free.  Go to the best law school that gives you the most scholarship money.

I've talked to 40-50 kids over the years and have told 7 of them they should go to law school.

Not necessarily on the…

Not necessarily on the extreme end of the spectrum but this year was magical.  We drive up from Oklahoma for Thanksgiving week as we usually do.  My 13 year old daughter (eldest child) became infatuated with the University in '21 and '22.  This year:

- My wife and I took our four kids to Pinball Pete's the Sunday before the game at 10pm; a hilarious mix of weird, awkward undergrad dates and dagger stares from others of "Bad parenting...why the hell aren't your kids in bed" (because in OK we get the whole week off).  Awesome.

- I ran into Desmond Howard at Zingerman's and, after encouragement from my 13 year old, asked for a pic.  Glorious.

- At the Fox pregame, a 45-50 year old lady with too much makeup and all red clothing got too excited when Urban Meyer's name was mentioned.  I quickly blurted out in front of my wife and daughter "Oh...did Urban finger your butt, too?"  My daughter in shock; my wife nearly spit out her beer.

- This was my 13 year old's first football game attended EVER.  She knew all the cheers; screamed her ass off and told me after the game that she's "All In" on Michigan.

*Note:  After the '21 snow victory, I told my daughter that her birth was the only time I cried like I did on the field that day.

Goddang I love our University.

And when Moore leaves for a…

And when Moore leaves for a head coaching job, he'll be all the better when he comes back as Jim's successor.

I agree and, I'm not sure…

I agree and, I'm not sure anyone else has mentioned this directly, the 'tie' goes to the receiver if you want to argue that both players had hands on the ball when RW goes down in the endzone.  Maybe I'm dumb but that seems like the extension and only logical conclusion of this.

Also, who cares.  WE. FUCKING. WON.

Agree on MSU game.  I took…

Agree on MSU game.  I took my mother and two of my kids (8 & 9 yrs). I grew up in Lansing and this was the nicest I've ever seen sparty - almost any other year I would never take that crew.  Turning around in the 3rd quarter and seeing you, Seth, and a sea of Wolverines was the best!

This is funny.

I agree.  The anti-trust…

I agree.  The anti-trust argument probably only has teeth on a much bigger scale (i.e., institutional/association basis).  The author is smart and clever.  But this doesn't do shit for Coach.

Right?  At least good men…

Right?  At least good men like Desmond Howard are out there being gracious with poop lickers (Finebum) offering them free legal advice:  use "allegedly" when saying dumb stuff.

Last night and today I saw…

Last night and today I saw lots of crap on Xwitter as well but everything I saw says it's about UM players and coaches gambling.  Some have gone as far to say that during MacDonald's tenure, UM was impossibly good ATS.  Insane.

I think the B1G is leaning…

I think the B1G is leaning heavily on a 'totality of the circumstances' type of argument.  That is, there is no smoking gun, no direct rule violation(s) supported by clear evidence - rather, every small anecdote and various evidence, when viewed together, is in contravention of the rules.  Accordingly, that is why the vague, tenuous argument is being made under the apparent catchall of Agreement 10 (Sportsmanship).

I fundamentally disagree with the B1G's position and, more importantly, believe their legal arguments are very flimsy but unsettling nonetheless because there is no relevant precedent under Agreement 10.

Happy to be wrong, and…

Happy to be wrong, and cognizant of recency bias, but this seemed like the most focused, clear-headed, genuine and transparent Jim Harbaugh I've seen.  Akin to when my dad tells me he loves me without first being prompted.

I'm a transactional lawyer…

I'm a transactional lawyer but I would have a hard time believing that W&C was or is flat-footed on the harsher potential penalty which was announced today.  Money cannons and lawyers have been putting in work all week.

Not unlike what the CEO of a…

Not unlike what the CEO of a startup would tell my client, who was the company's largest lender, when the interest payments were late.

Echoing that - my…

Echoing that - my grandfather was part of VMC-1 in Korea keeping the AD-4 Skyraiders running smoothly when he wasn't fighting.  Marines are fucking awesome.  Thank you all!!!!

Wow - thanks for the info…

Wow - thanks for the info and what a basketball team.  Interestingly, Napoleon Harris is a member of the Illinois Senate representing the district that includes Thornton.

Your concern is valid only…

Your concern is valid only if you believe that Michigan and Coach have little to no chance of being granted a TRO.  As others have said (or implied), the timing of any attempted suspension by B1G after this weekend should, in my opinion, help Michigan and Coach.  Any actual or apparent focus by B1G on discipline/suspension for Nov 25th looks malicious and is bad business and politics.

That's just a small taste of…

That's just a small taste of what you get when you hire elite professionals like W&C.

Perhaps.  But I don't know,…

Perhaps.  But I don't know, nor do I care, when the vac biz was started.  Only wanted to point out that CS formed multiple LLCs and it's very easy to name 'partners' in an online filing system.

There's another WY LLC that…

There's another WY LLC that was formed 6 days prior to the BC2 entity.  "Home Essentials Distribution LLC" is registered to the same Ann Arbor address but only CS is HED's only organizer and member.

Some other companies with which CS is likely associated - perhaps all real estate related? IDK

I've formed (as counsel) hundreds of companies in various states.  Wouldn't be very difficult at all to name BC as a partner/member on an e-filing.  CS appears to have experience forming LLCs.

The rule only requires that…

The rule only requires that the NCAA "initiates a preliminary...inquiry" - I think that's happened.

Also, great work on the simple but thorough analysis.  Nicely done.
