Since I told yall that RR was out after the 2010 season, in 2008, I got negbombed and lost privileges. So I had to email this to Brian but we'll try here.
Institutions, particularly ones like the Michigan athletic department have a culture and, for all their good, their #1 modus operandi is *risk aversion*. Right or wrong, like it or not, the athletic dept looks upon Rich Rod and sees:
youngish
outsider
spread
fail
As a risk averse institution, those four factors above will be of primary importance.
I've been saying for three years that RR has to go -- cause he's not got what it takes to be the HC of a truly great program. However, it wasn't personal. I just thought the guy couldn't get it done (and was proven right).
But, dang, the OSU game last week made it personal. I don't care about your abilities or recruiting or offensive schemes or injuries, etc. But if you don't f-ing SHOW UP for the OSU game, then it's personal. I felt betrayed. Harbaugh or no, dump his ass. ANd, yes, I realize that means we could get a great Brady Hoke type or a awful Brady Hoke type. Sucks, I know.
Negbombed for stating the obvious months and years before others were prepared to accept the obvious, I can't post, cant write a diary, can't even comment until the approved 48 hr waiting period is over.
So I'm on my third user name.
And guess what. I'm still here, still true blue and still right about RR. He's gone after the 2010 season. He's been an embarrassment who has turned Michigan into Minnesota in 3 years. No, I'm not owned any apology, but having the mods restore my original name at least to zero would be a show of good faith.
A sympathetic pat on the back. Good natured ribbing. Just the way we have long treated fans from, say, Indiana or Minnesota.
In 3 years, RR has taken the greatest college football program in history and turned it into Indiana.
That's criminal negligence.
He has to go. Now.
PS: I'm on my third username cause the others were negbombed into oblivion for stating what you now all accept. If you're a moderator, please restore my original account since we're now all on the same page. Thanks.
Those of us wanting RR gone (hell, I've said Monday's his last day for 3 f-ing years) do not need to "backfill" reasons. It's wins and losses. After 3 years of "his players" Michigan is *not* a competitive team. Don't matter if we score 100. We are not competitive.
In year 4 of the RR experiment, with yet another new DC that Rich Rod hands the reins to, Michigan will be -- in our wildest fantasies -- the 4th best team in the new Big 10. After four years, fourth will be the best case scenario. And 7th place is not out of the question.
You've gone from "peanut butter jelly time"" to "I won't be disappointed if Rich Rod gets the axe" in three years. Mostly because you realize that in year 4, then year 5, this team, with this coach will not only not be competing for an NC, it won't be among the top 4 in the Big Ten.
Unacceptable.
Glad you're finally coming around Brian.
Now don't just meekly state it. Shout it. Make it the focal point of every post. The sooner we get RR out, the sooner the painful transition for a new coach can begin. Better to start that in 7 days then two years from now.
I've been saying this since the RR hire. He's one of the top OCs in the country but doesn't belong as the head coach of a program like Michigan. And, yes, guys like Tressel and Paterno will tell you this privately. It's painfully obvious.
Told you that after 2010 he'd be done. We can only hope this is so.
The big change? My previous accounts all got negbombed into oblivion for stating this. Not anymore.
Michigan is the greatest college football program ever. The previous coach won a NC and never had a worse record than RR's best. Let's stop the bullshit about "turning around." If RR can win half as many games as Bret Belima, we should be so lucky.
Correcting you out of the way...
Yep. Man seems to care about his players, the program and the athletic dept and does lots of good works. Too bad that gets underreported.
1. Damn. Look at what Harbaugh's done at Stanford. Turned them into a freakin national power. Stanford! Don't neg. No coded messages here. Just praise for a great Wolverine and Michigan man.
2. At this point, worrying about Michigan's recruiting rankings is like worrying about the price of the mini bar after that crazy weekend in Vegas. RR has "his players". He will live or die by them. For now, we've all been slowly dying. Soon we'll know if he is Michigan's phoenix, or Dr Kevorkian. Recruiting rankings dont mean shit. It's the record.
I was so happy at the end of OT but pissed at the end of regulation. I was around all these people cursing Tate -- for things like why is he taking so long to get the play moving, why hasn't he called time out, etc. I kept saying -- that's COACHING. Not the QB.
Man has proven he can't win here. If we bring him back next year (God help us), what do you think he'll do? Team wins 7? After four years.
Get serious. Everyone now accepts this isnt working. Make the change asap. Of course it will hurt recruiting in the short term. Better than then the continued destruction of this great program.
Y'all know I"ve said for two years now that this would be RR's last. I think the reason everyone else is finally coming around is what the Penn State loss confirmed. Michigan isn't simply losing games. That was already confirmed. Rather, it's that if the other team - even if from the MAC -- puts up a fight, puts up a mother f-ing fight, Michigan backs down.
Love ya Brian. Love the site, but damn, Rodriguez Derangement Syndrome has gotten to you, too. Sad.
"The prophesied Rodriguez Leap, which did happen last year, happened again this year. Rodriguez is what he was sold as."
Have you ever been more wrong about anything? He is what he was sold as? Really? We're down to hoping Michigan can beat a decimated Purdue game just so we can make it to the I Cant Believe It's Not Butter Bowl. After three f-ing years of this shit? Is that what we were sold on? And in year 4, with yet another DC, what then? You know you can't even bring yourself to predict that Michigan will do better than 5th -- in the Big Ten. After 4 years! After 'give him time' and 'wait til he brings in his system' and 'he's got to have time to bring in his players'.
Maybe focusing on Gerg is one of the 7 steps you and other Michigan fans need til you're ready to come to grips with this painful death. As for me, since I've accepted the inevitable failure, I want him gone now. Why wait for another year? Why go through another year of this and then bring in new guy?
RR's a great OC. As a head coach, well, the proof is there. Yes, proof. Keeping Rich Rod another year is now as smart as keeping Weiss another year. A refusal to accept reality.
So please stop with these kind of posts. Year 3, Michigan is an embarrassment. And if we don't get rid of RR at the end of 2010, as I've said from the beginning would be necessary, then here's what we get in YEAR FOUR:
A new defensive coordinator.
A team that is NOT better than:
- Nebraska
- Iowa
- Ohio State
- Wisconsin
A team that PROBABLY will be better than:
-Michigan State
-Penn State
-Illinois
-Northwestern
But those are not gimmes. Year mother fucking four and Michigan will do no better than fifth in the new big 10 and could do as bad as 9th. Year four. Rich Rod has given you proof. He has shown he is one of the best offensive coordinators in the country. He has shown he can't lead Michigan to greatness.
Refusal to accept this is now more your fault than Rich's. Sooner we start a painful post-Rod transition, sooner it's over.
I'd like at least one where it was an overarching view of michigan football and how it had changed to stay relevant (and winning) in different eras over the past 100+ years.
They are Michigan Men and proven winners. Regardless of what RR does or does not do, that fact don't change. Let's quit bad-mouthing Michigan Men who are achieving excellence. I salute them.
Since the old one never should have been disabled to start. I don't troll. I don't spam. I am true blue, always will be and am confident you'll all come to accept, if grudgingly, that I've been right all along. If the old account can be restored, I'm more than happy to continue with that.
We are -- year 3! -- into RR and we don't even belong in the same stadium as Michigan State. We're not competitive against little brother. In year 3. With Denard.
Okay, the upside. Y'all have hated me for saying from the start that RR couldn't win here and would be gone after 2010. But, as this became more true and could no longer be argued, people fell back on the....'well, what are we gonna do -- start all over from the beginning with a new coach and go through all this again.'
That, my friend, was loser talk. After last Saturday's ass kicking, we can be liberated from such nonsensical fears. RR won't win here, has proven he can't win here. Another transition, yes, it will be hard, painful. But we now all know this isn't going to change so let's get on with the transition, hard as it may be, as soon as possible.

You're offering the best coverage out there. Yes, there's no information. But shining a light always helps.
boost us to that #1 spot
I've wanted RR gone since day 1 cause IMO he's not got what it takes to be the HC of Michigan. Nor of OSU, ALabama, Texas, etc. Nothing personal.
But, he has taken far too much shit, nearly every bit of it undeserved. Lot of assholes out there.
only before everyone else here
always appreciated
Great stuff, Brian. Thanks.

and the man who turned the greatest program in college football into the Golden Gophers in just three years is still here.
Tragic.
backwards priorities
you can go with RR, I'll stick with Michigan

You posted this cause deep down you agree with it.
RR is done. He brought it on himself by transforming the greatest college football program in history into Indiana. Did it in only 3 years.
Sooner we begin the painful transition, sooner we're once again a legitimate team.
Weakest Brian column in the history of mgoblog.

than Rich Rod went 7-5
My condolences to his family
This is where we are.
No one is getting shut out and we're able to wonder if Harbaugh would even coach here if asked.
File under: I told you...Well, you know.
what a fool I was
at home
in the conference
after three years of Rich Rod and "his players"
y'all know what I'm gonna remind you I said countless times before
so just lock me out now
What a douchebag you are.
AT HOME.
Against Wisconsin.
AFTER THREE YEARS.
We aint supposed to lose shit.
save everybody the trouble
and, yes, I said 2010 was RR's last, oh, 3 years ago.

One of the greatest coaches ever, the non-beloved Jimmy Johnson, had one rule on judging players: performance.
That's a good rule.
And he's a heck of a hockey exec.
I was so happy at the end of OT but pissed at the end of regulation. I was around all these people cursing Tate -- for things like why is he taking so long to get the play moving, why hasn't he called time out, etc. I kept saying -- that's COACHING. Not the QB.
Tate is great. Period.
Give up 65 points, even to a sucky Big 10 team, and you are likely going to lose the majority of the time.
Also, near the end of regulation, Tate and others looked rushed, wren't sure when/if to call time outs. That's coaching.
Okay, I'll worry about that Monday. Damn fun win!
I'm prepared to give Harbaugh a chance.
been discussing for two years, and got negged for, how about restoring my real account back to zero. thanks.
In 3 years a man was paid millions of dollars to coach the greatest football program ever. And turned it into Purdue.
If he doesn't have the decency to resign, and he don't, he must be fired. End of story.
As an actual thought, it blows.
Man has proven he can't win here. If we bring him back next year (God help us), what do you think he'll do? Team wins 7? After four years.

And after three years, the deniers continue to talk about WVU.
The seven stages...

I've been lonely these past 3 years. The only member of the Rebel Alliance.
Who is ready to join with me?
excellent analysis.
I've just gone and clicked on an ad.
In fact, we do.
If he's back in 2011, doubtful, Michigan will do no better than 5th, and possibly as bad as 9th. In year 4.
These 'asking for more patience' posts are no longer helpful to the program.
As always, Go blue!
pity, cause it was filled with my usual brilliance
and that's a head coach.
So please stop with these kind of posts. Year 3, Michigan is an embarrassment. And if we don't get rid of RR at the end of 2010, as I've said from the beginning would be necessary, then here's what we get in YEAR FOUR:

2. continuing to be mediocre in perpetuity
