I understand this view and I…

I understand this view and I'm tempted to agree with it. To play devil's advocate though, how much does another down year on offense hurt recruiting. Recruits want to play in the schemes that are successful and use their talent effectively.

Agree on both accounts…

Agree on both accounts. Frankly will not be satisfied if only Brown departs. Sadly don't think Gattis is our guy.

Thanks for sharing these…

Thanks for sharing these stats. Pretty interesting to think back on now given RR and Hoke's respective struggles. I'm not sure if we will be able to replicate Carr's strong numbers in rivalry games, but I'm hopeful JH can turn it around starting with ND this week.

Agree with all of this. For…

Agree with all of this. For good OC transitions, just look at LSU this year. New offense and new OC/staff and they're undefeated and looking at a SEC title and maybe a CFB bid.

Positive development from…

Positive development from Brooks would be awesome. I think he and DeJulius are probably my two breakout candidates off nothing other than the eye test from last year.

Overall, I'd say Fisch is an…

Overall, I'd say Fisch is an above-average guy to run your offense. While I'm not sure if I agree with all of your points, I do feel similarly that he is a bit glorified here, but I'd say that's mainly due to context. The other two guys (Pep, Drevno) were none too special, as we all know.

I'd agree with your analysis…

I'd agree with your analysis here. I think we may go with a deeper bench this season, as others have suggested.

Excited to see a senior Teske, among others. Great shot contester.

Fuck off yourself.

Fuck off yourself.

Harbaugh sucks. Hope he swallows enough cyanide tonight to choke a horse. Fuck him. Fake ass Michigan man. What a bum.

Nice TD there. Solid drive…

Nice TD there. Solid drive. Really glad we have Charbonnet because he's quickly becoming our go to guy.

Let's get a stop and keep the momentum going.

Dude, go take a walk and get…

Dude, go take a walk and get off the computer. Everyone on this site is upset we are losing. But these are 18-22 year old kids who, while not playing great right now, are still trying their best and have poured countless hours into this program.

Go outside and take a walk…

Go outside and take a walk man. The kind of aggressive response is so out of proportional to what I said.

To answer your point, though, I'm not sure who we'd hire then. Like any other coaching search, it would depend on who is available, who is having success, and who we think we can get. We would conduct it like any other search...

This is pretty shockingly…

This is pretty shockingly bad. I worry Harbaugh detractors are right. Just doesn't seem like the guy to lead this program. The whole program looks (frankly) tired, weak, unmotivated, and just sloppy. Mistakes everywhere.

Hope we can turn it around.

2 minute drill here. Put up…

2 minute drill here. Put up some points guys c'mon. Show some of this supposed "speed in space," Josh.

Seems like hiring a first…

Seems like hiring a first-time coordinator was a complete mistake. After Gattis was so secretive and confident in this "speed in space" ideas all summer, this is an absolute let-down. Let's get it together men and run a modern offense.

Wow this team is really…

Wow this team is really struggling. The first game is one thing but this is really concerning. We look lost, undisciplined, and just plain bad.

I like Harbaugh and this staff a lot. I hope we can turn this around because it feels like this already just isn't our season. We don't look like we've really came to play at all and the team doesn't seem to (sorry) give a shit.

Hopefully not IMO. Michigan…

Hopefully not IMO. Michigan football games start at 12. Period. The night games can be a nice change of pace for a real opponent (PSU, Iowa) or a rival (MSU, ND) but otherwise the entire day feels like a build up to this anti-climatic battle. Rutgers night game would be the epitome of that.

Second all of those points…

Second all of those points. Frankly I also think the volume stats are somewhat misleading vs. the eye test for this game. We looked solid overall but the offense really looked out of sync and didn't seem to have a natural flow or momentum at times. Our skill players didn't necessarily jump off the page either, making that OSU game look even more daunting than it is each year. Some bad overthrows and drops too. Still early but there is a not insignificant amount of things we need to improve upon.

Agree with your first point…

Agree with your first point. ND was a relative outlier last year. Here's hoping MTSU is that for us, but I'll add that some of the basic playcalling, like the McCaffrey pass you mentioned, was just poor.

Gattis is clearly a first time playcaller and it showed today. It needs to not show the rest of the season for us to accomplish our goals and really make a mark. This is Harbaugh Year 5. Let's get after it lads.

Think he's going to be a…

Think he's going to be a huge building block for us. Really glad he's here. Cutting, catching, pass pro, the guy looks like he'll be a stud. Excited for that.

Definitely feel this is a…

Definitely feel this is a valid point. Gattis just called his first CFB game (cheers to that).

At the same time, this offense just felt like a complete mismosh of different things. It felt like Gattis just had a list of different plays he wanted to try rather than an actual gameplan. I get that these first few games are the place where you might test out new plays or interesting stuff you may not ultimately use all season long, but some of the ideas were genuinely bad (i.e. McCaffrey screen). Not sure how this season will go but I know this game will be interesting to look back on as either a) indicative of an entire season of OK but not great offense or b) indicative of some growing pains for an offense that takes off.

Here's hoping it's the latter!

Totally agree. I get the…

Totally agree. I get the idea of not revealing everything on tape in Week 1 but this hardly felt like we utilized our speed and athleticism. Sainristil, Jackson, Bell hardly doing much as our slot waterbug types. After hearing so much about how Gattis uses those quick slot guys to shred defenses, it was pretty underwhelming to see us return to some of the same slow developing pass routes. We had to settle for that first FG instead of a TD because that route took too long to develop and then Bell made a poor play. Frustrating play but remain hopeful Gattis can open this thing up like a Ferrari on the Autobahn.

Disagree. The playcalls made…

Disagree. The playcalls made some sense last year too. Gattis certainly put in some better pass plays that created more separation but he still had many of the slow developing passes and screen passes that don't work well for us.

That was the most egregious…

That was the most egregious error by the staff tonight. Made zero sense to keep letting McCaffrey take those hits, and the pass to him was just stupid. Someone mentioned PSU used to run that play with their backup QB when Gattis was there. Makes me worried he's just going to keep running Moorhead/Locksley's stuff without ever tweaking/adjusting it to fit our unique personnel skills and limitations.

Not freaking out but honestly pretty disappointed with Gattis tonight. We need more from him if he's going to have total autonomy on that side of the ball. Get he's a good recruiter and all but that doesn't mean his playcalling is immune from criticism or review.

Gattis looked like such a…

Gattis looked like such a rookie playcaller and inexperienced coach. Concerning for this season. Seemed like he was guessing half the time. Not sure he's the guy we all thought he was and he presents himself to be. Seemed completely shocked at being handed the keys and just tried everything in the hopes something would work.

On defense, Brown did alright I thought. Secondary looked solid. Gray may be a star in the making.

Confused by your take here…

Confused by your take here. If we have no QBs like you say, then how will the offense by fine and humming by Wisco?

I'm all for optimism and being level headed after a season opener but that was pretty rough. Skill players looked slow and lots of basic errors (overthrows, dropped passes, fumbles). Gattis looked like a deer in the headlights too. Hardly looked like a Saban staffer who ran that offense last year. Concerned we may have hired the wrong guy from that duo. Will be interesting to see how Maryland's O fares.

Gattis just needs a better…

Gattis just needs a better gameplan. Throughout the game it felt like he was just kind of guessing and trying things, not planning a way to attack the defense. Offense felt stale, out of rhythm, and not confident in itself.

Multiple poor throws too. Shea overthrowing receivers by several yards. Hope he can clean that up. Long season and we all saw last year's opener wasn't completely indicative of this team, but this was a concerning start. Gattis has to show more for someone who is so confident in his vision and philosophy of speed in space. Hardly saw either of those concepts tonight sadly. On to Army, hopefully this is good film for them to study and make improvements.

Nice TD. MTSU not as much of…

Nice TD. MTSU not as much of a pushover as we thought (or hoped), but concerning game overall. Gattis just needs to go back to the drawing board and study some seasoned playcallers. Read somewhere he said he doesn't script plays. Don't most coaches script the first 10-15, or the first few drives at least? Feels like we need a better gameplan going into games. Defense similarly concerning with DTs and lack of sideline to sideline speed, but we knew that going in. Sadly think this is a 9-3 year, not the 11-1 Brian predicted.

Long time reader, first time…

Long time reader, first time poster. Made an account mainly to say this offense just seems completely out of rhythm. Get that Gattis is a first time play caller but this is frankly kinda atrocious. Think he needs to be on the field, not in the box, to start. Plays have no relation to each other, no flow, no momentum. This offense is the exact same as its been since 2015. Sad!
