I don’t think it was…

I don’t think it was necessarily a designed run only. Indiana had 4 defenders right of center, and UM had 4 eligible receivers including the snapper. As Dylan takes the snap and runs to his right, the defender to the left of center takes himself out of the play by rushing up field, leaving the 4 defenders to cover 4 receivers plus the qb. Had one of those defenders come off the receiver to make the tackle, Dylan can just flip it to the receiver for the score

I also would not be surprised if there was a secondary call set up if IU had an additional defender to the right of center, but we’ll probably never know that.

I wasn't able to watch the game, sadly, but have watched all the highlights I can find, and can’t find anything that shows the route Collins ran on his touchdown. Did they ever show that? Based on the pump fake from Patterson, it looked like it was probably a double move. Did anyone actually see it?

MGoBlue list Uche playing 4…

MGoBlue list Uche playing 4 games as a freshman, 10 games (So), 12 (Jr). Does 4 games still allow for redshirt?

I think we're thinking of Different plays. The first play from the red zone in the first drive they only rushed four and speight stays in and overthrows Perry to the sideline. That time they had a drag route over the middle that seemed open to me.
The first red zone play I thought the best look on that play was probably the drag route across the middle. It seems like a pretty straightforward throw, and if he hits him in stride, there seems to be good opportunity for YAC. That would have changed the whole dynamic of that series Great work, by the way. I've always wanted to try this but have dreaded the time commitment
Maybe he wasn't really that Maybe he wasn't really that slow. Maybe he was just really good at setting up his blocks

I wonder if the Davis I wonder if the Davis redshirt burn might be a step into getting some run as a Houma-type ball carrying fullback down the road. I know his preference is RB, but it also seems like he might be a better fit for a running fullback than some of the existing fullbacks who might be more pass catching fullbacks.
I agree about Jake Butt I agree about Jake Butt getting blown out on some run blocking. Saw a little of that with Bunting too. On defense, the only mild concern I saw (other than a couple receivers being a little too open on a couple of plays) was a couple run plays where they lost containment on the edge. But I'm sure that gets improved with just a little more coaching.
Rereading this in light of Rereading this in light of yesterday's game Was pretty fantastic

Is the extra d for Detroit? Is the extra d for Detroit?
Are we going to see a Are we going to see a broadcast ever again that constantly shows the field before the snap? I really hate how long the cameras linger on the sidelines and the close ups. Am I the only one?
I'm curious about that also On the one hand, getting young players in when you can gives them experience they just can't get any other way. On the other hand, a team needs to build chemistry, which might favor keeping starters in longer to be sure the team has gelled by the more difficult games. We all saw how long it took Rudock to get in sync with his receivers.
If 11-2 Stanford hadn't lost to Oregon Then a 12-1 MSU certainly could have been left out of the playoffs. SoS would have made the difference
This still upsets me so much This still upsets me so much when I see it. My emotions swings back and forth between anger and sadness at an alarming pace. I just sat here staring at that photo for about 5 minutes trying to get a grip on what I'm feeling, and I just can't. Sports are nuts. Just nuts
I think I remember watching I think I remember watching Lake Linden play Mendon in the state finals many years ago. Couldn't tell you who won.
Okay, this is the third time Okay, this is the third time I've mentioned his name in as many days, but I think Kingston David could be that guy if the team's really in need of that and he's willing to give it a shot. He's always said he wants RB, and Wheatley said he'll get his shot, but if he can make an impact at FB-type I hope he's willing to jump at it.
Brian doesn't say Brian doesn't say specifically that Cole won't start, but that the rest of the line isn't "set". He could be implying (though that's not how I read it the first time) that positions could continue to move as one or two players works into or out of the starting lineup. Though based on what we've heard about Cole's play, I believe he ain't gonna move.
Kingston Davis is huge, and Kingston Davis is huge, and fast (apparently). Any chance he plays special teams, and if he does, does that make him more likely to get a snap or two in the backfield? What do you think the playing chances are for other young backs?
Which apparently is much less Which apparently is much less than I eat.
I knew Kingston Davis was a I knew Kingston Davis was a big back (running back, NOT fullback) but I thought his weight might have dropped after 6 months with the team. If that is his or near his ideal playing weight, I'm intrigued to see what he does on the field. Also interested to see what happens if he and Smith are in the backfield together.
You guys have to be the best You guys have to be the best crew in the country. Always great questions with substance. I always feel like I learn something (often a lot) based on your work. Thanks guys!
I've clearly spent to much time with my 2 y.o. son the last couple days (not actually possible). I read that as "hardening of Legos". I had to go back and read it three times. I was stupefied as to why there would be any Legos on the field until I realized I was just stupid.
Couldn't agree more. Last year, after the last play of the game I'd rather not remember, after turning off the tv, I blindly tossed the remote on the couch to avoid throwing it through the television. Unfortunately, it struck my 1 and a half year-old son in the head, causing him to cry. So now I'm having to try to comfort him, with all those thoughts running through my head (disbelief/rage/horror) when all I want to do is walk out of that room. Then my wife picks up the remote and says, something like "That was incredible" and then turns the tv back on. Worst. Feeling. Ever.
I have a feeling the coaching staff is trying to get their hands on a bunch of quality linemen, then figure out where they can best play over the first year or two. I'd expect more than one line recruit to finish his career in a different spot than where he starts. It's one thing this coaching staff seems to be really good at.
Has he been in contact with Ole Miss? Could be a rolled $100
Do you think it's telling That Harbaugh mentions Peters before Morris, or doesn't that mean much in the course of that answer?
nevermind I retract that statement
I love seeing how Gary's name gets thrown around already Especially since he's never played a snap of college ball. Hope it all comes together for him. I can't wait to see him and the rest of Brown's defense in action.
The exposure at IMG is obviously important for recruits both at IMG and nationally, but how big is it to connect directly to the coaches at IMG? It seems that coaches have a big impact on how recruits consider schools. This certainly can't hurt that side of recruiting. Also, if there was anyone out there who didn't know what IMG Academy before, they know now. The IMG coaches probably feel pretty good about that, too.
Don't know if this is already out there But has anyone compiled a recruit list that list recruits, in the order of Michigan's preference, with a note on the estimated number of players M might be thinking of taking? i.e. CB (2) FL CJ Cotman CA Deommodre "Clamp Clampington" Lenoir FL Elvis Hines A list like this might simply be too difficult to maintain, and/or there may be too much uncertainty to make it worth the effort. Just curious
Is there a chance that we could lose him if Stanford eventually offers, or does this feel pretty final?
Don Brown's had success coaching baseball. Any word on if he has time to try and help teach this team how to play defense?
Ouch That hurts
Ideal scholarships per position? I've never paid much attention to recruiting before last year, and seeing the number of players coming in at different positions got me thinking. I know "ideal" is abstract, but what would people generally think is the ideal number of scholarship players at each position. My guess: QB=4, RB=5, FB=4, C=4, G=6, T=6, TE=5, Slot=4, WR=6, NT=3, DT=6, DE=6, LB=8, CB=6, S=6, LongSnap=2, K=2, P=2. Thoughts?
I wonder how this will affect I wonder how this will affect Nordin's recruiting
How exactly does Bolden make How exactly does Bolden make it into the East-Weat Shrine Game?
I thought I read that it would count against the scholarships, but not the recruits. Although, now I can't seem to find where I read that, so it's entirely possible that I dreamt that. It would be a better dream than all those work dreams I have where I can't finish anything before the deadline.
I knew we were thin at LB but this is the first time I'm really seeing how thin we are on the line on both sides of the ball after next year. I really hope some of these young guys pan out.
Sorry. I'm not trying to be Sorry. I'm not trying to be an ass here. I was looking for precisely what the rules require. I've watched football. I've counted to seven. I understand that that's how teams line up typically, and that adding another player to the line is a disadvantage because it means having one less eligible player so teams won't do it, but that doesn't necessarily mean they can't. I was looking for the precise rule and what I've found is what I posted above. And from what I can find, the college rule for illegal formation is "more than four players in the backfield". In NFL it's fewer than seven players on the line of scrimmage. Neither suggest more players on the line is a problem. I could still be wrong, but everything I've read seems to suggest I'm not. Either way, I'll probably never see this anyway, so I'll shut up now
Actually According to the NCAA Rulebook; section 'Offensive Team Requirements-At The Snap'; #4. "No more than 4 players may be backs." The "no more than 4" implies there could be fewer backs. I'm surprised it doesn't state explicitly that there needs to be at least seven players on the line (which I'm pretty sure is the rule) as an offense could potentially run a play with fewer than 11 players, fulfill the requirement with "no more than 4 backs" and not have 7 men on the line. Maybe there's a note somewhere that says there must be 11 offensive players during a snap, but I haven't seen it yet.
I guess what I was getting at is can more than 7 players line up on the line of scrimmage. And now that I'm thinking of punt situations, the answer is obviously yes. I'll think a little harder next time before asking a stupid question
Huh That actually does mess with my previous notions about alignment. Thanks. A follow up question, if you please. What do the rules state about number of players on the line of scrimmage/ in the backfield as far as alignment? 7 on the line? No more than 7 on the line? No less than? Is there actually a requirement for number of players in the backfield?
Offensive alignment question I thought the last man on the line of scrimmage had to be an eligible receiver. That is, I thought the last ineligible receiver needed to be "covered". If the open tackle is ineligible because of his number, does that mean he reported as eligible, or is my whole understanding of alignment in tackle football being turned on its head?
Michigan had two players who Michigan had two players who were hot and scored over twenty. Irvin and Walton didn't have the best shooting games but Walton pulled down 9 rebounds, and Irvin played a sound game defensively on Illinois' Hill. Would I be happier if they had better days shooting, of course. But when LeVert and Donnal(!) decided to take over the scoring, they continued to contribute in other ways. For now, I think I'll take it.
