Dull but ,,,

A Michigan helmet

Watched the first hour of Unrest tonight. I had no idea how debilitating CFS is. Thank you for educating me and many others.

Mother Teresa

I met her at the convent of the Missionaries of Charity in Washington DC in 1996. A main spiritual advisor for the order and a dear friend of our family, Fr. John Hardon, SJ (who has a cause for canonization himself), arranged for her to film for commercials for Right to Life of Michigan, and I was in-house counsel. She made it a point to speak to everyone in the room for a minute or so, and she gave each of us a handful of Miraculous Medals. Unforgettable experience.

Kicker or Punter

Would love to have someone with experience on the roster

Anthony Carter

Pickup basketball against AC at CCRB in the day. Played against Carl Banks; he was a beast.

Golf Scramble

My Dad, brother, and I played out of our minds and won a golf scramble. Dad wasn't much of a player but he rolled in 3-4 putts, and he was so excited. He died two year later on that date, and my brother and I still talk about it. (June 17, 1994 -- same day as the O.J. Bronco chase)

Hair Stood on End

Saw Austin Hatch make a couple of free throws, and I had tears in my eyes.

Grant Hill

Fantastic player and a good guy.

Painful to Even Think About

Mike Lantry's kicks at the end of the Ohio State/Michigan games in 1973 and 1974, especially the 1974 miss that many claim was good, would make a good 30 for 30.

God Be With You Brady Hoke

Thank you

Thank you for these posts! Only 9 months until the 2016 season starts.

Stunning

At the end of September 2012, Michigan was 4-0 and ranked. The idea that Brady Hoke would be fired would never had occurred to Michigan Nation. His teams were 23-7 with a BCS win. The collapse of the program has been stunning. Off tackle left for -2 with 7 in the box when Gallon had a 9-yard cushion.

Brilliant

Well done!

Great first post

Thanks and welcome.

For Brady Hoke

Does the medical staff have an obligation to tell the football staff immediately when a concussion is diagnosed?

Did Hoke meet with counsel for the University prior to the Monday press conference?

Did Hoke decide not to learn the results of SHane Morris's examination to allow him to pretend to be ignorant of a concussion at Monday's press conference?

When did Hoke learn of the diagnosis?

When Hoke learned that there would be a press release on the diahnosis, why did he not ask what it would contain?

The medical staff will take the hit

There is video of all of the treatment rendered. If someone cleared him medically and communicated that to Hoke, Hoke has a justification for allowing him to play and avoid getting fired. There will be a lot of scrutiny of the medical staff.

Although it won't happen ...

Suspension with pay for one week pending internal investigation of medical protocol and no one telling Hoke that the wobble occurred -- especially if Coach Nuss was telling him to stay down. Are there pictures of the sideline immediately after the wobble? I haven't seen any.

Bad

The decisions have nothing to do with the team or winning. He ran a hurry up down 31 with the starters in the last minute, and today they ran 40 seconds off the clock per play down three scores in the fourth quarter. He decided on Morris and Mossis was going to stay in the game irrespective of performance or health -- because that is what Brady decided. Sad

Offense Going Forward

The big question is whether the offense will improve over the course of the season. Can Brady, Coach Nuss, and the staff coach up the players?

Congratulations

Wonderful to see the traditional pre-game posts. Excited about 2014-2015 for Michigan!

Hope You Are Right

The 2014 team has a chance to have a great year. But predictions for the individual games -- especially before the first snap of the season -- mean little. Who thought a year ago that the 2013 team would be outplayed by both CT (ranked 121st in Sagarin EOY) and Akron (137) and feature the worst offensive line in college football?

Are the pre-season expectations for this team really higher than they have been for any season since the Lloyd Carr era?

With the exception of App State and Miami of Ohio (and arguably Rutgers), there are no automatic wins on the schedule. That said Michigan also has a chance to make the national championship playoff. I would bet under 9.5 wins for what it is worth.

The stage is set for a level of disppointment that dwarfs what 2013 produced if this team struggles.

Wide Right

No good ... wide right

Beilein is the best

Steve Fisher and Tommy Amaker have done well since leaving Michigan,as did Johnny Orr and Bill Frieder. Even Brian Ellerbee had a virtually-impossible task of building a winning program under the circumstances. But John Beilein stands out.

While John Beilein's offensive genius in clear, the turning point of his time at Michigan appears to have been replacing his entire coaching staff after the 2010 season. The quality of the recruits and player development improved dramatically after that. That had to have been an incredibly difficult decision personally, but Beilein did what was best for the program. He selected the perfect coaches to build the program and help him implement the Beilein system.

There is not another coach in America that I would want over Beilein to coach Michigan going forward -- although the prospects of recruiting 5 of the country's best 10 players every year is appealing, even if all are one-and-dones.

Outstanding!

Thanks for all of the hard work. Belonging to this community of Michigan junkies is a joy.

KenPom -- Michigan/State's draw

Wafford -- 184 Delaware -- 105

Texas -- 39 Cincy -- 24

Duke - 7 Virginia - 4

Louisville -- 2 Witchita State -- 5 Villanova -- 6

Florida -- 3 Arizona -- 1

Trade draws with Sparty? No thanks.

Mt Rushmore

Bo, Fielding, Fritz and Harmon -- Would have AC and Ufer on deck

Rice, Cazzie, Rudy T, and Burke

If Not UConn, Somewhere

MSU is losing six multi-year starters on defense. His stock will never be higher (think Jim Herrmann after 1997.) It is hard to imagine a 47-year-old D coordinator waiting for a 57-year-old head coach to retire. There are a number of high profile jobs open now, and more will open up soon. Good luck to him.

Bad Form

Mentioning Space Coyote by name was fine. By explicitly demeaning SC's credentials to bolster his argument, Brian was out of line. But it is his blog, so he can fire at anyone he likes. I will continue to read the material posted here in any event

A Positive Comment for the Offensive Line

The Michigan offensive line has had a better November than the ObamaCare website and it has a brighter future

Coaching Matters

LaVert's progress makes me wish John Beilein coached our offensive line

Thought of

Bob Ufer. Wouldn't this be awesome with him narrating this?

Congratulations

God's blessings to you and your family. Wonderful that you and your wife take so seriously your faith, Lent, and the example you set for your children.

Bad Taste

While no doubt intended as a joke and without malice, using the crucifiction of Jesus Christ as the basis for humor is inappropriate. I doubt there will be a reference to the Holocaust or flip remarks about Islam in future podcasts. Perhaps you could work in material about the Dark Night Rises shootings.

Lloyd Carr -- as Mother Teresa doesn't count

I met Mother Teresa in Washington, D.C, but that was scheduled, as she filmed a commercial that I helped arrange -- but she is far and away my best name drop.

When I was a senior in high school, the basketball team played the coaches in an IM floor hockey game. Lloyd Carr grew up with many of my coaches in Riverview, and he played with them. I faked him while he was playing defense, and he drilled me into the bleachers in a no-check league rather than let me have a scoring chance. He looked at me and said, "Sorry kid." He got banned from the league for the hit. I have met him a few times since, and he is a tremendous person.

Seems high

But the higher the better when it comes to tournament matchups. Think they will end up as a 5 seed

Mike Valenti is an Entertainer

Mike Valenti is a very good radio talk show host, despite his anti-Michigan bias. I listen to his show because it is thought provoking and I spend a lot of afternoon time in the car.

He is the Rush Limbaugh of Detroit sports radio -- opinionated and polarizing. He evokes passionate responses, especially on Michigan-related topics. It is a testament to his skill as an entertainer that there are so many mgoblog threads about him and that so many listeners call to gloat when he gets a prediction wrong or his teams lose.

Spartan Bob Karma

The Harris Poll voters and the coaches rated us higher in their polls, and 5 of the 6 computers rated us higher. That is how life goes. As Spartys have told us for years, "Quit whining."

Here is what Palm said at 12:45

"Oklahoma State trailed Alabama by 342 points in the Harris poll and 166 in the coaches' poll.  With the current computer projections, the Cowboys would have to be the mathematical equivalent of 28 points behind in Harris and 15 back in the coaches' poll."
