Not sure why everyone wants…

Not sure why everyone wants to usher in Sherrone Moore as head coach after Harbaugh.  Great OLine coach but his offense has been mediocre this year post cupcake schedule.

Needs to be a rule that p4…

Needs to be a rule that p4 undefeated teams are guaranteed a playoff spot. This flies in the face of 100 years of cfb that an undefeated team can’t be a national champion. It’s always been the most important criteria

But would you rather have…

But would you rather have the 10th largest tv market combing those teams, or the 6th plus the 12th plus the 21st (SF, SEA, POR).  You could own the entire west coast.

17 years between B10…

17 years between B10 championships.  Michigan is no longer an elite program.

Yikes.  Michigan is done…

Yikes.  Michigan is done with this attitude.  It's very simple.  As a kid coming out of high school, would you rather take a guaranteed 3 million dollars, or a possible, maybe, best case 4 million depending on how you preform and if you're starting right away.  Hell you can even "renegotiate" your guaranteed amount and get more by threatening to transfer.  College football is now a transactional experience whether you like it or not.  Get with it or you are doomed to irrelevance.  With this stance MSU is going to be the premiere program in the state full stop.

Yeah don't really get the…

Yeah don't really get the love.  Not trying to hate either as I have nothing against him as a person but honestly he's way too loud and obnoxious, talks about himself too much and isn't all that great at his insight and breakdown.  He's not terrible at that part but Borges is much better.  It's clear he thinks he's pretty good at it though!

For the life of me I do not…

For the life of me I do not understand the people who knee jerk assign blame to Google without informing themselves about the situation and within minutes jump ship.  This is literally the reason Disney keeps getting away with it and our rates keep going up.

It's Disney being the greedy…

It's Disney being the greedy ones.  All Google wants is to pay the same carriage rates as similar sized subscriber bases.  Disney doesn't want to and they have google over a barrel and they know it. (Of course Disney knows people will leave YTTV and go to Hulu live which Disney owns)

They do really good in…

They do really good in California and it's close enough to give them a close-to-home edge over almost everyone else.  Especially as a top Pac 12 program flush with money, great facilities and a great fanbase.  Their success isn't a fluke or them punching above their weight.  Kelly wanted the NFL, and Taggart and Cristobal went home.  There are very few other places they would have left for.  I'd bet Kelly and Taggart regret it.  We'll see about Cristobal.  Oregon is an excellent job for a CFB head coach.

Michigan didn't score 0 pts…

Michigan didn't score 0 pts and get 1 first down in the second half because of Cade's 4 incompletions on 5 attempts.   No QB is going to be perfect.  It might just have a little more to do with 16 rushing attempts for a putrid 35 yards.  I would have liked to see his analysis of why that was such a failure instead of heaping all the blame on Cade's 4 incompletions for the half.  Same with he and Harbaugh defending the "not conservative" play calling because they had one drive where they threw 3 times in a row.  Meaning there were 2 passes the rest of the drives combined with a total run pass ratio of 76%.  And a game total YPP of 10.2 and YPC of 2.9.  Wonder where the problem was....

The main problem with this thinking is that the running game is the "default" and safe option.  Passing game isn't perfect then just go back to the run even if the defense is selling out to stop it and you're getting 2 ypc, because 2nd and 8 isn't as scary as 2nd and 10 or your QB missing throws around DBs.  Sometimes you have to be able to work through some issues instead of ignoring them if you're going to improve and actually have the passing game to exploit that defense.  It's what people call playing not to lose, and it's why you'll win 8 or 9 games instead of 11 or 12.  With Michigan's talent they shouldn't lose more than 4 games with this either though.  But with Harbaugh going back to this offense maybe that's his goal, just to save his job this year and win enough games to get off the hot seat with this extremely safe and risk averse style of play.

Plenty of QBs have games where they have completion rates in the 50s with some bad or totally missed passes and somehow their coaches still manage to allow them to throw 20-something times a game.  It's pretty normal.  And Cade is more talented than most of them.  He might just show you something and come back after 4 incompletions to raise that efficiency rate.

For all the people who cite…

For all the people who cite trophies, look at the record and actual games.  I'm not going to take away the NC but look at his other 4 big ten titles.  3 were co-championships with losses to Ohio State.  All 4 of them were 3 loss seasons.  2 of these were 3 loss regular seasons. Things are a bit tougher these days.

You guys do realize Army was…

You guys do realize Army was 11-2 and took a playoff team to overtime last year right? Also that Harbaugh has a top 5 win percentage of P5 teams at UM? We're 2 games into installing a new offense and it showed as it was mostly execution that was the problem for this game. Fumbles, missed assignments, penalties, incorrect reads were the issue. I swear this fanbase....

If he only threw from that…

If he only threw from that formation then the defense would know what he was going to do every time.  He has the ability to throw or run which is what those "better" athletes don't have.  If he runs from that formation as a WR he's still setting up the ability to fool the defense and pass from it later.

It's going to be unavoidable…

It's going to be unavoidable if you want to determine a winner through a playoff head to head type system.  It's better than the old days of just having a bunch of people vote for who wins.  If things played out a certain way this year we could have rematched both NW and Notre Dame.  Not sure how you'd avoid that.

ah got it.

ah got it.

Do you say that about every…

Do you say that about every professional sport too where this happens regularly?

The whole "best 4 teams"…

The whole "best 4 teams" thing is an SEC talking point.  There's simply a belief the SEC is the best conference so they have the best teams even if you can't prove UGA is better than OU for example.  It goes by some nefarious eye test.  Nobody can predict who would win with any consistency between team 4 or team 5.

The committee themselves even uses this argument and the "best looking teams" as a criteria.  It's a joke.  No other sport at any other level determines their best teams that way.  Were the Eagles really the best team in the NFL last year?   No, but they earned it and deserved it by beating who was put in front of them when it mattered.  That's what it needs to be about, what is earned.

This whole system and committee needs to be thrown out.  We need an 8 team playoff with a BCS like poll determining the teams.  And keep ESPN farrrrr away from setting up the new system.

You mean the 2nd time in 4…

You mean the 2nd time in 4 years.  Unless you mean the state of Florida.

You don't go into a season…

You don't go into a season with a gameplan based on how your players "established" themselves the previous year.

He's a huge Michigan fan lol…

He's a huge Michigan fan lol.  He wanted to name his daughter Bo Schembechler Johnson

I just listened to this part…

I just listened to this part again and where you say the MSU game gave them more points at 4.31 ypp with 26 points vs purdue 5.6 ypp and only 20 points bumped up the floor for how many points they can get per ypp.  But that doesn't make any sense if you are factoring defensive scores into offensive ypp as a measure of offensive production.  Is that how it's factored into the model?

Ah I see thanks.  Good…

Ah I see thanks.  Good listen thanks for doing these.

Ah I see thanks.  Good…

Ah I see thanks.  Good listen thanks for doing these.

It's strange they keep…

It's strange they keep mentioning OSU offense scoring 26 against MSU.  They scored 17 (with 7 in garbage time).  Do they not account for if it's actually the offense putting up the points?

They DID put the most…

They DID put the most deserving teams in though.  You could even argue over the best teams.  PSU beat OSU (maybe making them better) but were left out because OSU was more deserving with only 1 loss vs 2.  All depends on what you prioritize as deserving.

One of the worst sayings…

One of the worst sayings because of course the same is true of running the ball.  Incomplete = no gain/loss of yards, int = fumble.  The fact that passing the ball also consistently averages a significantly higher yardage per play also thoroughly debunks this philosophy.

Before that he overthrew the…

Before that he overthrew the deep balls quite a bit.  I'd rather he underthrew and gave the talented receivers a chance.

I don't see a 1 loss non…

I don't see a 1 loss non conference champion Alabama getting a spot over a 1 loss B1G champ.  You can talk about 'setting' things up all you want.  There would be outrage and would probably lead to the end of this system.  If they lose to LSU, who will they have beaten?  A 4 loss MSU team? A 4 loss TAMU? (if LSU wins out)  It's not happening.

Also, people should stop acting like it's a foregone conclusion that Alabama would make it.  It should be an outrageous notion and you are already opening the door to acceptance.  If enough people think it will happen than it may become acceptable.

No, it did not happen last…

No, it did not happen last year.  There was no 1 loss P5 champion to take that spot.  There was even a lot of talk of letting OSU in instead even though they had 2 losses because they were conference champs.  I agree with him.  There is no way even Alabama takes the spot of a 1 loss P5 champion.  We would have a new playoff system within 2 years.

Conference champion auto…

Conference champion auto bids would completely invalidate the non-conference schedule. You could lose all 3 non-conference games and still make the playoffs. I don't want to see 3-4 loss teams making an 8 team playoff.

True but not as bad as the…

True but not as bad as the big 12.  But when you break it down the SEC and Big 10 are really the only conferences that do as a whole.  It's a CFB offense golden age.

The Pac-12 doesn't suck hard…

The Pac-12 doesn't suck hard.  They're more like the big ten west.  It may be a jumble but I wouldn't say Iowa, NW, Wisconsin, Purdue suck hard.  It's not surprising for any of them to win or lose any given game.  They just don't have that standout team or 2 and they beat up on each other.

Yeah the west coast really…

Yeah the west coast really has the best weather.  No month is too hot or too cold.  Low humidity sunny summers.  Long and stable weather patterns. Really up and down the whole coast.

Louisville was good for 2…

Louisville was good for 2 years when they had Lamar Jackson.  That's it.  Nobody thought they we're scheduling a football powerhouse with Louisville on the schedule.

Personally I'm hoping for a…

Personally I'm hoping for a Clemson loss and Alabama, ND, Michigan, Oklahoma to win out. Clemson would probably get bumped below OU so you get those 4 in playoffs in that order.  Sets up a 2.ND vs 3.UM rematch in the first round and 1.Bama vs. 4. OU.

Yeah the Michigan/PSU game…

Yeah the Michigan/PSU game isn't likely to have an affect on the big ten champion (Michigan can lose and it would still be in control of their destiny for B1G) while Iowa/Purdue is.

IMO best win of Harbaugh era…

IMO best win of Harbaugh era was 2016 Ohio State ;).

Really though it's 2016 PSU (blew out big ten champs), then 2016 citrus bowl vs Florida, then it's between this and '16 MSU just for beating them and at home to boot.

People over 30 can't enjoy a…

People over 30 can't enjoy a fun atmosphere and going out to bars?  What a stupid comment.

Harbaugh has literally had a…

Harbaugh has literally had a tailored gameplan for OSU every year.  He does in all of the big games. OSU's have been drastically different (and really good the last 2 years).  I swear people just make stuff up.

I explained the play calling…

I explained the play calling.  It's supposed to be ass.  The execution on the other hand is not good on the o-line especially.  There's no defending that and I'm not.

LOL at people freaking out…

LOL at people freaking out and bitching about play calling in what is obviously a very simple game plan against SMU.  As it should be.  You aren't going to show anything against the worst team on your schedule.  You work on your fundamentals and out physical/talent the other team.  You should be able to pound the ball forward on a 3rd and 1.  That said, o-line execution is still spotty which is worrying.

If you want to talk results…

This take is absurd.  If you want to talk results James Franklin has to be the most overrated coach in college football at this point.  He has had one season in his career where he lost less than 3 games.  Never less than 2.  He and Harbaugh have the exact same record since Harbaugh arrived at Michigan.  And that negates Franklin's first year of 7-6. He has a .65 winning percentage to Harbaugh's .70 in college.  And Harbaugh spent much longer at programs just as bad as Vandy.

Chryst similarly has one season with less than 3 losses and has had the benefit of being the only team with an actual pulse in his division.  Still has worse results than Harbaugh in his career.  He was 19-19 at Pitt.

Meyer is widely considered the second best coach in the country.

A state with the second most

A state with the second most youth hockey players in the country, fourth most girls participation, where hockey is among the most popular in the country and it's premiere university with a top 5 grossing athletic department nationally doesn't have a women's varsity team.  Which 35 other universities manage to do.  The state of it is pretty pathetic.

But then in this thread you have an alumni base and people who associate with the university which prides itself on providing opportunities and learning experiences for it's students say that it shouldn't exist because it wouldn't be profitible.  Somehow ignoring the fact that almost none of the programs are profitable.  That's not the point of college athletics!!

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/06/sports/hockey/university-of-michigan-womens-hockey-club.html

For the Michigan women’s club ice hockey team, it’s a different story. There is no varsity option for players. The team gets no support from the athletic department’s $160 million annual budget. The players each pay $1,600 a year to play, and scramble to round up donations and sell T-shirts to buy jerseys, sticks and other equipment. The biggest bill of all is from the university itself: The team pays more than $20,000 to rent time at Yost Ice Arena.

Some other universities subsidize their club hockey teams, buy some equipment and offer discounted rates for ice time. The Michigan women’s team, which just completed its 21st season, is funded mainly by the players. They pay their coach a stipend of $3,000 a season. Most practices and games start at 9:30 p.m. or later, when ice time is less expensive.

For road games, they rent vans from the university and drive themselves. In hotels, they sleep four to a room, two to a bed. They have not had new jerseys in several years. And there is no permanent locker room at the rink, or even a closet, in which to hang their malodorous gear.

Sometimes players earn money for the team by sweeping up Michigan’s arena after basketball games.

But sometimes, the women said, it feels as if the university just will not give them a break. They have asked to get a display case at Yost to show off the team’s trophies, schedule and roster, but the requests have been denied.

“It would just be nice so that people know we exist,” said Mercedes Reyes, a junior forward.
The seasons may have had a

The seasons may have had a better result but those weren't better teams.

'14 TCU (along with #5

'14 TCU (along with #5 Baylor).  Co big 12 champs, both only 1 loss.  Same as the 1, 2 and 4 ranked teams.

'15 Some would argue Stanford as P12 champs and after losing their first game, the other loss was by only 2 points.  Basically an OSU '17 scenario but much stronger resume.  I disagree and think this year got it right though.

'16 Got it right (however b12 champ and undefeated WMU could have an argument)  If only the logic applied to it wasn't then abandoned and reversed when it came to the following year.  1 loss OSU goes ahead of the team they lose to, because that team has 2 losses.  Sounds fair so far except....

'17 People ignore why OSU went the year before ahead of PSU, snub Wisc to a lower position and 2 loss OSU doesn't make the playoffs ahead of a one loss Wisc only by the grace of a Bama loss.  That said, there's no reason Bama should be in there and UW shouldn't.  Or UCF for that matter.

So in other words, it's been fair about 2/4 years.  And it's never going to be as long as you have the bias of such a small committee selecting who they think passes the "eye test."  That's a joke and doesn't happen in any other sport.  It needs to be eliminated as much as possible.  Debates about the eye test, or this p5 team has a weaker schedule than that p5 team are bad for the sport.  Especially when it comes down to the prestige of a school in the end anyway.  Like OSU/BAMA over Wisconsin.  Why doesn't a h2h record override the W/L record in any other sport or ranking consideration even within FBS conferences and yet it somehow can in the playoff rankings?  Still waiting on their number 1 ranked team to actually win the championship...

Ah I see.

Ah I see.

It's not just semantics.  I

It's not just semantics.  I think that's the whole point of this thread.  OP is looking for the most talented teams, not the best season.  That's why people rank 2016 in the 2-3 area because they were very good even though they didn't have a great season.

I live in Portland and follow

I live in Portland and follow the Seahawks closely.  I audibly groaned when they selected him.  I thought Schneider was better than that.  No one's perfect I guess.  Doubt he ever plays a down in the NFL. (And will probably also be flat broke in 2-3 years if there's a way Seattle can wiggle out of paying most of the $$$)  If not, 3-4 years after his last check.

I wish there was a way for

I wish there was a way for them to profit off of their likeness and do commercials/sponsorships etc. but I'm not sure how you'd prevent the $200,000 "autographs"' from a "big fan" just after a recruit commits to the school.

 Seems like the gameplan has

Seems like the gameplan has changed.  We're now practicing/preparing for the next two weeks.  Can't expect to run the ball every down with less than 100 yds passing and beat UW and OSU.  Need to open it up.  MD isn't coming back 28 pts anyway.  Who cares how much we win by.  We know what's working.  Need to work on what's not.
