I’d be more optimistic about this if Kirby Smart weren’t a strong defensive coach in his own right, quite capable of keeping the ship running.

Still, I’d rather they lose coordinators than us.

No, McDonald is too young and unproven and whatever else I need to say to ensure other teams keeps their hands off of our coaching staff. Seriously though, our coaches really seem to enjoy working together and I don’t expect any of them to leave unless it is a significant promotion (ie a blue blood head coaching job).

I think it’s unlikely he coaches in the playoffs.

Either way I’m not sure this will affect them all that much. If anything, it will just mean they don’t gameplan much new or exotic, so whatever our coaches see on tape is what they’ll see in the game.

I am a bit surprised that the Oregon HC Job still does not have the same status as other blue-blood programs, with all the facilities and the Nike money, I would have thought it to be a destination job for some top tier HC, guess it's not at that level yet.

There’s not that much of a local recruiting base  there.  California isn’t too far away but everyone else recruits there, too.  Michigan and ND can sell their academic reputations to faraway recruits but UO, not so much. The Nike money helps but can only get them so far.  If anything they’ve probably been punching above their weight class the last 20 years.

They do really good in California and it's close enough to give them a close-to-home edge over almost everyone else.  Especially as a top Pac 12 program flush with money, great facilities and a great fanbase.  Their success isn't a fluke or them punching above their weight.  Kelly wanted the NFL, and Taggart and Cristobal went home.  There are very few other places they would have left for.  I'd bet Kelly and Taggart regret it.  We'll see about Cristobal.  Oregon is an excellent job for a CFB head coach.

Coaches do this all the time.

If it were the other way around people would be saying he's quitting on his team.

Some head coaches even stay...Scott Frost was pulling double duty when they beat Auburn en route to their undefeated season at UCF.

The current Oregon staff will continue to recruit and close out the class, UGA can probably make Muschamp an official recruiter and Lanning would need to stay on campus.

Yeah, he did it for almost a month.

Flew to Lincoln, did his presser then went right back to UCF and coached them like he always would've, only did stuff for Nebraska in the middle of the night.

I remember after that Auburn win "national championship ?" he honestly looked like he hadn't slept for 3 weeks. I almost felt bad for him...almost.

Just like I almost felt bad for him this year with all the close losses...almost.

But '97 lives, we had the better team, he can keep talking shit but they beat Missouri on an illegal play and Fat Phil Fulmer voting us 4th in the final polls (instead of even 2nd) is the only reason it was a split vote.

Fulmer was mad about Manning not winning over Woodson.

Fuck Frost and Fulmer FOREVER.

Not sure how long Muschamp has been there nor am I positive on how much this matters, but Georgia has been a base 3-4 since before Kirby Smart got there and Muschamp AFAIK is a 4-3 guy.  By traditional standards (meaning back in the day) the dlines play very different.  3-4 was a 2 gap scheme while 4-3 was a one gap scheme.  With the modernization of the game, I'm not completely sure how much these schemes have been melded together but I would imagine the lines are more blurred than before.  I have hope that Muschamp is not as good of a 3-4 guy but it also depends on how the duties are divided up.  I know he used to work for Saban but that was the LSU/Miami Dolphins days and I THINK Saban was transitioning from 4-3 to 3-4 around that time.

File this under excuses Georgia is going to use for the loss.

This is good news for M, it absolutely will hurt their defense, but no more bad news for Georgia, I want their best shot, and this looks almost too easy.
