It was a bit of a surprise pick for the 5th round. They must have saw something they liked, he was the lowest graded tight end to get drafted with a couple of higher graded TE’s being taken in the 7th.

Isn’t that what half the board did after Gary got drafted? Doesn’t seem like a lot to ask to Take a minute and celebrate for these guys before shitting all over them. It’s unequivocally a good thing when these guys get drafted and literally a dream come true and yet people feel the need to take immediate shots. Fans aren’t the only ones that read these boards and twitter. Players parents, recruits, recruits parents and other pay atttention to this shit and it’s such a terrible look to trot out these farewell FUs to plates in threads celebrating their success.

What kind of contract does a 5th round pick get?
They have to make the team. I think he will get a small signing bonus for coming to camp, and if he makes the team he will get a contract. From memory of watching the HBO show (Hard Knocks), they cut these guys pretty regularly. I believe there is a matrix online, but I think 1 - 4 get contracts, and 5 and down don't. He is in a good spot, they lost their starting TE in FA to the Lions.
