Luck: success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.

So those kickers were not kicking the ball through their own actions but instead some intangible random chance decided what kicks were made and which weren't? Why even have kickers then? Let's just roll dice and hope "luck" is in our favor.

...someone who believes that the outcome in some close games is determined by luck suffers diminished cognitive function; even though, you admit winning a coin flip is "luck" and all the closest games (i.e. OT) are determined by a coin flip?

As a matter of your fact, the whole game can be decided by "luck" if the coin flip to start the game goes wrong.

Or maybe sometimes blocked punts, missed field goals and bad spots are exactly the kind of "unlucky flips" that cost games.

Why do you guys keep considering special teams play all luck based? Agressive punt block schemes, athleticism, misssed blocking assignments, bad snaps, and bad hands result in blocked punts.

Every single one of these things you can practice and improve on to gain enough skill where you should not have blocked punts unless the other team has more skill or found a weakness in your protection. Luck is not something you can practice to become extra lucky. Same with field goals. You can practice to improve your skills but you are not practing to improve your luck that a kick will go in.

I would go back to the 2006 game against OSU.  We win that game and I am sure the trajectory of our football program is a lot different.  We layed an egg against OSU that  year and then layed an even bigger egg against Appalachian State, the Horror, followed closely by the Oregon loss...

I would have said last year was a breakout year for Higdon. If he has a breakout year on top of last year, that suggests two things: 1) he’s healthy all year and goes for, say, 1200 yards, and 2) the passing game and OL are doing well enough to keep defenses from keying on him. Good times, baby!

Hoping for Josh Uche. Lot of scary 3rd downs for opposing QBs against our DL, Devin Bush.. Adding a speedy, big linebacker rushing the QB too will be much fun.

Oliver Martin. I thought he would contribute last year and I wont let a redshirt season lower my expectations. A slot/outside combo receiver is too great an asset to have especially with Shea's skillset at QB.

Its been discussed in previous posts, but I think one or more of Singleton, Jordan Anthony, and Josh Ross will have a Devin Bush like breakout season. As a sleeper...I am excited to see how Don Brown uses Uche this year.

Don Brown says this might be the fastest defense hes ever had, to me that sounds like our LB play will be elite.

When Don Brown talks, I listen.

I wanted to say Ruiz, but I think he's expected to be the best OL this year so not much of a sleeper. I like Big Mike to be the sleeper because he has the measurables and skills to be elite and Warriner is gonna coach these guys properly (high MF hopes). Onwenu will be the one to really benefit from thinking less and letting his skills and size do the talking.

I really, desperately want someone to step up on the OL.

  • Bushell-Beatty?
  • Newsome?
  • Hudson?

I have to go with Hudson because he hasn't really played to speak of yet. But yeah, if Warinner can turn the OL around, this will finally become a sucessful football team. Still waiting.

Without seeing an improved Oline, having a slot ninja who runs tight routes, catches everything, and is a great quick throw target...yep, he could have a big year. May not really get into a groove til midseason, but should benefit from the other WR options as well. Could see him as a Golden Tate down the road.

Anyone on the OL. Seriously, I don't care who it is. Someone just please step up. But if I had to pick anyone there, it'd be Bredeson. I hope this is the year he can live up to his recruiting billing. He's getting close to now or never.

For some reason I think we're going to be talking about McGrone or Van Sumeran a lot this fall.  McGrone has some depth in front of him, but something is telling me he's going to jump over some people.  Van Sumeran also brings something, guessing that one of the those guys that the ball finds in big moments and makes a play.

Of course the ultimate would be a return of Newsome and approaches the level before he was hurt.

Ben VanSumeren, because he's Ben Mason - but with hands!

Seriously, I'm excited to see what  Harbaugh can cook up for a guy who has the ability to be the first man through the hole and go up and get the ball like a tight end.

Brad Hawkins. More of a deep coma pick, but I think he’s got the cover skills/athleticism that we’ve been lacking from a free safety. I’m also interested in seeing more from J’Marick Woods.

Aidan Hutchinson plays little meaningful time but dominates scrap time getting his feet wet for next season

I think Nico Collins will be huge literally and figuratively. I imagine we’ll see more throw it up for grab plays if Shea is at the helm and some red zone fades to a big target. Nico’s got a larger frame to box out mismatched corners and nickels. Maybe a stat line of 40 receptions, 450 yards, 7 tds.

Oliver Martin- His HS film suggests he could be a Hunter Renfroe type for us, great hands, decent athleticism and really clean route running.

Luiji Vilain- hopefully he has fully recovered from his injury and showcase that speed rush off the edge everyone was raving about when he was being recruited.

I know he isn't a "sleeper" but he is a true 5-star phenom, that between the qb angst and perhaps the step up in talent from high school, wasn't able to rise to his potential. Whether it be Shea or Brandon, I think he'll step up this year personally as well as have the quarterback to get him the ball so that he can finally show off his skills.

Especially Peters. We will all point to some glimmer of promise from 2017. But there'll be some posters wanting to give the other QB's a shot. This is what we do as Michigan fans. This place would have melted down during Henson/Brady.

With McCray gone, the Will is up for grabs. I think Ross’ blend of size and speed helps him to become a key contributor. A major caveat being he is up to speed on the playbook.
