Why no love for David Long?
The man ran an above average 40 for CB's in the 4.4 range, had the best agility drills out of all seconday participants (which are typically the greatest indicator of good CB's), and has decent size.
He's listed as maybe a 3-4rd pick, although his stats and measurements would clearly put him in the Tier 2 range of CB's. The only gripe I've heard is there is not enough tape on him because he wasn't thrown to often, a product of DB's system.
With his combine performance he could sneak into rd2. That’s pretty damn good.
Agreed, I'm definitely not saying he's a first round pick, but after Greedy and D'andre Baker, there's not many CB's that separate themselves from the rest of the pack. I could see a bunch going in 2nd-3rd round without much difference in their grades, mainly based on fit.
Byron Murphy may be the best one
I think the main gripe is he covered outside WRs and he doesn't have ideal height to do that. Offhand 5'11" seems average for an outside CB to me, but what do I know. I get the feeling if you're under six feet they want elite speed. Six feet seems kind of arbitrary to me. The other grips is lack of elite speed. I think they're basically saying his body type and skills are better suited for the slot, but his experience is all on the outside so there may be an an adjustment. From what I see he is a good all around player, but not elite at anything.
Three of the Pro Bowl cornerbacks this year were either 5'10" (Chris Harris) or 5'11" (Kendall Fuller, Denzel Ward).
I don't know why but Denzel Ward always looked super short to me. Like 5'8". I'm probably crazy.
Best players play in the super bowl, not the pro bowl!

It’s a burden being compared to the great Morgan Trent for all Michigan dbs
I think he was 3rd-4th rounder before the combine. I think he's a 2nd rounder now. I think his speed and agility shocked some people
I dont get it at all. Nor do I get the whole "system CB" thing. Since when is playing man 95% of the time beneficial to a field corner? It's not.
It is when you have a dominant D line and LB Corp that gets to the QB so quick that there is no chance to throw. This is a big factor in why our CBs are not tested often.
No it is not. Having a dominant DLine and what not may help the corner do his job, but it isnt beneficial to any corner to play man to man all day long. Man to man helps the line, not the DB.
Pretty sure he's getting love
3rd round would be great for him. 2nd round would be amazing.
CBs don't typically get taken off the board in the 1st unless they are elite in every category
The Lions will draft him in the second round.
Why do you wish bad things for him?
The Lions will draft him in the second round.
Damn. Drafted twice by the Lions?
Thoughts and prayers
He was quietly phenomenal for us. I'm going to miss him wearing maize and blue.
Maybe the lack of draft hype is our corners almost only play heavy press man and rarely any variety to that? I don't know.
I think he's under-hyped because he was avoided so much, but that his combine performance will take him back into the second round discussion where he belongs. The only knock on him is that he's not 6 foot, which isn't actually an issue if you look at the best CBs in the league right now, but that's the wave of what GMs think corners need to be now to be first round picks.
his 3 cone drill was the 4th best in the last 14 years.
Funny thing about Long, he feels so under the radar, but the ppl that actually make decisions know
he's like Leon Hall...a guy that's an all pro and has a 12 year NFL career, but a lack of real "buzz" except from the opposing coaches and players.
i don't think he'll slip below the second round personally
Leon Hall was a consensus All-American though. I agree with you that Long is very good and his athleticism and also his quiet, intelligent demeanor will lead to a long career, but Leon Hall had some fanfare.
you are right, Hall was definitely a cut above Long in terms of accolades at the college level...
it just seemed to me he was a pretty low key guy and didn't get a lot of press, even with the national recognition...
Long was an excellent player that didn't get a lot of fanfare in college who might turn out to have a better pro career than college career...
Hall maybe wasn't the best example of an under rated college player that excelled in the pros, but he was the first Michigan guy that came to mind - i had forgotten the AA recognition to be honest
I thinks he’s a 2-3 round guy, but something tells me he’s slipping into the 4th and maybe 5th round. Should of stayed. Just my take! Well let’s hope for the best, good luck DL
