Who Is On Your "All-2021 through 2023" Team?
With All-B1G selections coming out recently, it got me to thinking...who is on the "All-" team for Michigan if you only look at the last 3 years?
QB: J.J. McCarthy
RB: Blake Corum
2. Hassan Haskins
WR: Ronnie Bell
WR: Roman Wilson
WR: Cornelius Johnson
TE: Colston Loveland
2. Luke Schoonmaker
LT: Ryan Hayes
LG: Trevor Keegan
C: Olu Oluwatimi
RG: Zak Zinter
RT: Andrew Stueber
DT: Mason Graham
DT: Mazi Smith
DT/DE: Kris Jenkins
EDGE: Aidan Hutchinson
ILB: Junior Colson
ILB: Michael Barrett
EDGE/OLB: David Ojabo
CB: Will Johnson
CB: D.J. Turner
NB: Mike Sainristil
S: Rod Moore
S: Makari Paige
K: Jake Moody
P: Brad Robbins
Notes:
• The craziest one for me is Mike Sainristil is better than Dax Hill, and Mike gets the nod. Dax lived up to the hype, he was GREAT! And Sainristil has been one of the best CB/NBs in school history.
• Stueber vs. Barnhart was the hardest decision. I look at these awards as "earned" not "who would I want to start on a fantasy team" (which would've been a clear nod to Stueber).
• I only did "first team" - obviously, McNamara, Edwards, E. All, Nugent, Barnhart, M. Morris, the 4 EDGEs on this '23 team, J. Ross, Dax Hill, Moten, and Doman would be in the conversation for a "second team" honor.

Looks good

Such an awesome era. So many legends born during this stretch. I love it! I have one beef: James Turner got no mention even on your potential second team? He is having one of the best kicking seasons in the history of Michigan football, but Moody was somehow even better.
December 4th, 2023 at 10:52 PM ^
In terms of beating OSU, Turner was more valuable in that 2 of his FGs were the margin of victory. Otoh Money Moody saved our undefeated season against Illinois in 2022.
I'd probably give Turner the nod, solely based on how consequential his kicks were.

Heard the guys talk about their Mount Rushmore on the pod. Kinda disagreed with their takes. Aidan was AMAZING but was only a part of the 2021 team. I think you need relevance/impact over more time. My 2021-2023 UM rushmore is:
JJ
Blake
Mikey
Barrett
HM: Zinter/Keegan (wouldn't be mad if either was included but felt it hard to differentiate - also feels a bit dirty to not have a lineman on this but oh well)
December 4th, 2023 at 10:36 PM ^
Aidan was #2 in the Heisman as a DE/EDGE player with the best season for an EDGE in school history...how is that not impact?
3 sacks against OSU in the first game of this era.
You picked the 4 captains for this team. Not the Mt. Rushmore.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:48 PM ^
Must've missed the over time bit - as in multiple years of impact during the selected range. He's obviously the best player that was on any one of those teams.
Also, JJ isn't a captain on this year's team
December 4th, 2023 at 10:39 PM ^
4 Captains: McCarthy, Corum, Keegan/Zinter, Sainristil
Mt. Rushmore: McCarthy, Corum, Hutchinson, Moody
December 4th, 2023 at 10:47 PM ^
A Rushmore without Mikey is illegitimate.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:06 PM ^
I had to take him off for Moody.
The guy is literally the best kicker in the HISTORY of the school.
You have the best EDGE in the HISTORY of the school.
Corum is about to break the school record for rushing TDs.
You're naturally adding the QB and face of this run (who also has an argument for best in school history if he has two great games).
I love Mike, but you're talking about 4 guys who had made school history. That's why I had to drop Mike for Jake. Mike embodies this period, no question.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:59 PM ^
Appreciate the Moody love but I also agree with having Mikey over him.
Side note: what a blessing to have a discussion like this. Long live Harbaugh!
December 4th, 2023 at 10:46 PM ^
Without Hutchinson, there is no Rushmore.

Aidan is one of the most important players in Michigan history, the most important player of this century. He dominated the Ohio State game, the crucial we-finally-beat-them game, as completely as a defense-only player can dominate a game.
But his influence is far greater than that; the team in 2020 looked lost, shattered. They absolutely quit against Wisconsin, for example. It was a disastrous season, and it would be very easy for the program to go south.
Aidan could have gone pro, and instead he came back. He was the locus around which the team congealed. Aidan coming back, and being great, was, in my opinion, the most important single factor in Harbaugh turning the team around. Harbaugh hired good coaches, the OL came together, all that stuff was great. But Aidan was the linchpin.

Thank you. I had considered this and decided against it but your argument persuaded me. I was too concentrated on their total impact over time rather than the impact of a luminous firestarter who began this era.
Appreciate your engagement.
I believe your argument could apply, to a lesser extent, to Hassan. His impact in the locker and weight rooms seems to have been a huge part of this turnaround as well. Wouldn't put him on the MR but if there's a "brought us through dark times" wing of this fictitious structure, then his bust would deserve to be across the entryway from AH.

Do a helmet sticker tier list for your next post
December 4th, 2023 at 10:57 PM ^
Great list...
So hard to pick amongst these great young men - on and off the field.
What a culture, program and even coaching tree Harbaugh has built the past few years after the good but not elite initial years of his tenure.
Would love for it to continue and winning the CFB playoff would be the ultimate validation that this program is elite now and going forward. Amazing time to be a UM fan.

Yep!
Sainristil is such a great story and a legend
December 5th, 2023 at 2:35 AM ^
I just bought my first UM jersey, #0 Sainristil. He's a Legend & yet doesn't get the credit he deserves.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:27 PM ^
Man this fucking guy with his bullshit depth charts and bullshit threads that his stupid ass can't help starting.
December 5th, 2023 at 7:27 AM ^
Lighten up Francis.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
I agree with your list except I think you got it wrong re: Dax Hill. He wasn’t NB. He was a safety and was better than Makari Page.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:28 PM ^
Mike Sainristil beat Ohio State three times, playing three different positions: Slot (offense), Nickle (defense), Corner (defense, when Will Johnson went out).
Wow.
He is the MVP of the last three years.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:49 PM ^
Also with maybe the highest effort play I've ever seen.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:10 AM ^
December 4th, 2023 at 11:39 PM ^
I would just clone Mikey Sainristil and play him at all positions.
December 4th, 2023 at 11:40 PM ^
I can’t leave Dax off the list, considering he spent time at safety as well. Put him where you have Paige and I think the defense is spot on.
Offensively, I don’t think Stueber vs Barnhart is all that difficult a decision. Stueber was better.
December 5th, 2023 at 12:06 AM ^
The confusing thing about considering Paige's merits is that he's so perfectly boring,(in the best way!!!). I believe that Dax might be better but find it difficult to compare Dax's fantastic play and Paige's magnificently steady hand at the D's backend.
Definitely worth a discussion though!

the WR picks shows how bad we need receivers
December 5th, 2023 at 12:55 PM ^
It still pisses me off that Xavier Worthy was not a part of this run.
December 5th, 2023 at 1:07 AM ^
Eric All is a POS, but he has to be one of the 2 TEs
December 5th, 2023 at 7:15 AM ^
I’m torn between 2021 Haskins or 2022 Corum as RB1. I suppose both could get equal reps, that duo was fun to watch.
I love how Haskins never went down easy. Wasn’t the home run threat, but if you needed 3 he got you 7.
December 5th, 2023 at 8:40 AM ^
I will take Eric All over Schoon. Also i want 2021 Blake with a good ankle over 2023 Blake. Hoping he is looks more like that Blake against Alabama, and I think there is reason to believe that is likely.
December 5th, 2023 at 8:52 AM ^
Biggest quibble: I’d have Haskins over Corum. Blake has been great for Michigan over the three years, BUT, 5 TDs against OSU in the game that broke the spell(curse?) against the buckeyes, including all of the fools hurdled that year? HH will forever be known as having had one of the single greatest games against OSU, ever.
December 5th, 2023 at 9:16 AM ^
I'll take Dax and Mikey at CB/NB over DJ Turner at corner with Mikey at NB. Also Bredeson at FB is obvious but should be included.
December 5th, 2023 at 9:30 AM ^
shoot, i came here to say BENCH MASON, FULLBACK. SMASH!
but looks like his last year was 2020
i don't want to forget cade mcnamara who led us to the CFP with over 2500 passing yards in 2021. Josh Ross had a ton of tackles.
i always like O-JA-BO
