Half of the folks on the Huskers subreddit want Mickey and the other half Urban Meyer. 😂

There was some downright salacious Scott Frost rumors on there this morning but it got deleted.
“People are saying” things like Frost was checked out from the get go; Frost is an alcoholic who went back to Lincoln and reunited with his old partier “bros”; He had several encounters at some golf club and lake house where he would get “grabby” with the coeds, he would frequently delay practices from 0900 to 1200 because he was hungover; and the best is that Frost couldn’t show up to a home visit for Dylan Raiola, who was all in, because he was hammered drunk and cancelled at the last minute. Raiola promptly committed to OSU.
regardless if it’s true, they sure turned on the golden boy quickly.

Well, a good number of posters on our wonderful Mgoblog were tossing out rumors/hypotheses for Harbaugh’s struggles prior to last season - checked out, on meds, off meds, depressed, exhausted dad with an infant, etc.

Many people want a simple or character-based reason for the outcomes with leaders, rather than a complicated or situation-based reason. I think Frost had a tough starting situation and some bad luck that he & his staff couldn’t correct. Hard to imagine a quick fix.

It wasn't just about his struggles; 2017-2020 Harbaugh was completely different than 2015-2016 (or before). You wouldn't have even thought they were the same person...

Why isn't Primetime ever mentioned in any of these lists?  Deion would totally shake up the place which is what I think they need IMHO and he seems like a good coach and a great recruiter.

I think you're right, especially about Nebraska's lack of interest, but I'm baffled why that is and why he's not even speculated about.  None of the lists I've seen from Nebraska media or elsewhere even mention him.  Not kicking the tires would be a mistake if he has any interest at all (I have no idea if he does), and if Deion wants to get to a place like Miami or FSU, what better way to get there than turning around Nebraska?  It's better than Jackson State certainly.

This is what I'm baffled by.  Why is it a bad culture fit?  I don't think you're alone in this assessment either, but what exactly doesn't fit?  Is it that Prime is flashy and Nebraska stodgy?  If any place needed an injection of flash, it's Nebraska.  To me this would be the perfect culture fit.  This hire would make a bigger splash than Lincoln Riley to USC--exactly what ole stuck-in-the-mud Nebraska needs.  He'd be the talk of the league and the entire CFB. He'd have every recruit's attention (albeit perhaps not their letter of intent . . . yet).

I say this not knowing what Deion wants to do, but I say again (sorry) that getting to FSU would be easier through Nebraska than Jackson State, no?

Nebraska, both as a state and athletics program, are indeed stodgy. Conservative by nature. Set in their ways. The flash of Primetime isn’t a good mesh with the culture of Nebraska. And while I don’t disagree that the infusion of flash might be beneficial, I also recognize it isn’t something that a fanbase that prides itself on tradition, history and culture would be generally welcoming of.

Some coaches just aren’t culture fits at certain schools. Rich Rod as an example was a poor culture fit here. Harsin is experiencing the bad fit issues at Auburn as well.

The guys on Big Ten radio have talked about this quite a bit. They think Trev Alberts would prefer a defense/ground game oriented coach (like Beilema, if not necessarily Beilema himself) to a quarterback centric coach like O'Brien because that model is easier to sustain and they may have a tough time getting high level QB talent to Lincoln. They also pointed out the Nebraska job is more desirable now simply because they're in the Big Ten and the money that every program will pull from the incredibly lucrative TV deal.

Those points seemed logical to me.

Of that list, the only coaches that would be interested in that job would be Chadwell, Herman, Joseph and maybe Leipold. Everyone else either has a better job already or will get a better job later.

Speaking of blue blood, her majesty's coincident passing this week reflects a similar situation. Just like the monarchy in the UK will never be the same after her (as an outdated institution with little place for it in society), Nebraska, of all the blue bloods, has the worst chance to get back to that level of relevance in college football.

Was watching sportscenter a day or so after he was fired. They were talking about him being fired. Part of the storyline was his 1 score losses during his tenure. There was video of some the past losses and him on the sidelines, In the videos you could see him wearing a wide black wedding band. They show him taking the headset off after Saturdays loss and that very visible band is gone. So I am sure a lot of the rumors surrounding him and his wife are true.

I expect to see USC’s Roy Manning begin to pop up on these lists soon.

With the league expanding west, Manning could add Nick Sheridan and Courtney Morgan from the UDub staff.

Matt Rhule would be a home run hire for them but I think Herman gets the job if he wants it. Leipold is interesting, but I think Nebraska will try to aim higher than stealing the Kansas coach

Id say Leipold or Doeren would be my recs. Leipold killed it at Whitewater (not that hard) and did a nice job at UB too. He seems legit. Doeren seems to have done a decent job at NC State and B1G money > ACC money

The tough thing for Nebraska is its just not an elite job anymore. Recruiting there Is tough. You can get good and win the west there, but I think you’re unlikely to have enough talent to win the league and will probably only make the 12 team CFP once every 5-10 years

This really brings home the point that in 4 years and 3 games of football Scott Frost didn’t manage to win enough games to keep his job….. in the Big Ten West.

That said whoever comes in will immediately look like an improvement because Nebraska wasn’t as bad as Scott’s snakebitten ass made them out to be.
