Who do you wantt to Win PSU or OSU?
Who do we ant to win that game? Part of me says Penn St which puts OSU behind the 8 ball...BUT a OSU win especially if its a close game and a emotional loss sets us up nice to go into Happy Valley with them all dejected and emotionaly drained..What say YOU?
October 16th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
OSU.
Also, your spell check isn’t working gud.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
yeah sorry it wont let me edit for some reason
October 16th, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
When there is a hockey-masked murderer with a chainsaw loose in your town, what does he care whether John or Barbara wins a tiny couple's spat? Both OSU and PSU are eventually getting the saw. It matters nothing which of them wins a meaningless squabble over the color of their new draperies.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
LOL. Damn. I got to know. Who is John? PSU or OSU?
October 16th, 2023 at 7:05 PM ^
We all know John lost, so I'd love to know by how many points if John is PSU.
October 16th, 2023 at 7:37 PM ^
Is it wrong that I'm very irritated by the horrible Progressive What Really Happened Replay ads that the woman is always correct?
October 16th, 2023 at 9:13 PM ^
The driver is responsible for the sunroof no matter who put it down.
October 16th, 2023 at 7:35 PM ^
Do the carpets match the drapes?
October 16th, 2023 at 8:40 PM ^
Ahem. That's a rather personal inquiry, isn't it?
October 16th, 2023 at 9:31 PM ^
Maybe that's what John and Barbara are arguing about
October 17th, 2023 at 9:17 AM ^
John wants to go no carpet. Barbara wants to go no drapes.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:09 PM ^
Meteor. The only ideal outcome.
October 16th, 2023 at 6:15 PM ^
Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. Any matchup between these teams is always a Giant Meteor game.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:10 PM ^
always rooting against osu.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:20 PM ^
99% of the time this is my sentiment, but unfortunately in this case, OSU is the right answer as Penn State win means a must win scenario for us in Happy Valley.
I feel dirty.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:23 PM ^
So? An OSU win means a must-win scenario for us in The Game. Frankly, we probably need to win both games to win the division unless one of them is randomly upset.
I will be rooting against Ohio State, not for Penn State.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:40 PM ^
I agree with this. I believe somebody figured out that if it’s a three-way tie, we don’t go to the championship game. For that reason, we have to win both games.
Also:
Always root against Ohio.
An Ohio loss does much more damage to their brand than a PSU loss
October 16th, 2023 at 7:10 PM ^
It would go to whichever team's West division opponents have the best combined record. Michigan would likely finish 3rd. OSU plays Wiscy and PSU already beat Iowa. Fucking sucks. We need to root for Iowa and Wiscy to lose. Root for Minny, Neby and Purdue
October 16th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
Can't we just call them Wisc, Minn and Neb? Must we turn them all into baby cartoon characters? And if not, then why didn't you also include Iowy and Purdy? Clean it up please.
October 17th, 2023 at 6:07 AM ^
What a stupid fucking tie-breaker
October 17th, 2023 at 8:26 AM ^
Sure. But it is like the 5th tiebreaker. Would whoever is voted highest in the AP be better? SP+ ranking? What is the non-stupid tiebreaker for when UM, OSU, and PSU all end up as 1-loss team when head to head has to be thrown out?
What is stupid is that this conference has 14 teams and is going to 18 and counting.
October 17th, 2023 at 9:28 AM ^
I would look at in-game stat differentials (such as: the delta of points for vs. points against) to attribute a weighted value for each win to then determine how the wins should be ranked. The team with the better margins of victory over the common opponents between the tied teams gets the nod.
Imperfect, but at least it's something each team has control over. They have no control over their opponents' records.
October 18th, 2023 at 9:53 AM ^
I like this idea, but I'd just go with the combined point differential in the games between the tied teams. That'd avoid encouraging running up the score tremendously in games against bad teams that happen to be common opponents
October 16th, 2023 at 8:25 PM ^
Yes this. Osu may be a few shoves away from program uncertainty slide
October 16th, 2023 at 5:24 PM ^
I feel this way as well. Keep building up the hype and stakes to The Game.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:28 PM ^
Given the goals of this team, every game is a must win, so who prevails in PSU-OSU is meaningless for Michigan. That being said I hope OSU gets curbstomped.
October 16th, 2023 at 8:06 PM ^
I agree….
October 17th, 2023 at 6:44 AM ^
I would agree with you if I was not confident in Michigan’s chances of winning in Happy Valley.
In this scenario, I’m pulling for PSU. That will put them at a higher rank (likely top 5) when we play them and beat them in November. It also gives OSU time to recover in the polls before our game with them and there’s a good chance they could be back up to #3 or #4 by the time The Game rolls around, just in time for Michigan’s three-peat blowout.
October 17th, 2023 at 9:33 AM ^
This is the way. Seek the outcome that optimizes M's chance for glory assuming we win the damn games. Don't fritter about how to make it better for us to lose; that's not healthy.
October 17th, 2023 at 7:42 AM ^
this.... 100% this
October 16th, 2023 at 5:10 PM ^
October 16th, 2023 at 5:11 PM ^
What I really want is to see both quarterbacks completely ineffective against a good defense. This will make me smile.
October 16th, 2023 at 9:14 PM ^
Counterpoint…I want to see both offenses completely ineffective against mediocre defensive efforts with lots of systemic issues for UM to exploit.
And for Ohio State to lose.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:12 PM ^
The right answer is to always root for an Ohio loss.
October 17th, 2023 at 7:09 AM ^
Correct. I don’t care whether it might benefit Michigan incrementally for OSU to win. When that game begins, I know one thing for sure: I don’t hate Penn State and therefore that’s who I’ll be rooting for.
October 17th, 2023 at 8:04 AM ^
if ohio state was playing the russian national team..... i would probably stay neutral.
October 17th, 2023 at 9:11 AM ^
you're blaming the kids for Ukraine?!!
October 17th, 2023 at 9:20 AM ^
If Ohio State was playing the minions of hell..... wait, they are the minions of hell.
Never pull for Ohio State.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:14 PM ^
Probably OSU in a rock fight. I have a feeling it will be a game for 3 qtrs and then OSU will score a couple TD's in the 4th to make it not look as close, very similar to the Maryland game.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:27 PM ^
So it will be basically every Ohio State - Penn State game for the past decade.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:16 PM ^
I'll disagree with the hypothesis "an emotional (PSU) loss sets us up nice to go into Happy Valley with them all dejected and emotionally drained."
In recent history, PSU has played worse in the MUST wins games (in terms of winning the B1G) and better in the "we're probably already out of B1G contention and now we face a very good team" games:
- 2019: Lost at Minnesota, a team they were better than, when both were undefeated in early November. Competed well at OSU a couple weeks later.
- 2020: Weird COVID year - but PSU started 0-5 and finished 4-0. Sort of fits the trend.
- 2021: Laid the egg at Iowa when both were undefeated. Competed well vs. both OSU & U-M when only the opponent had B1G title shots.
- 2022: Lost big at Michigan when both were undefeated. Competed well vs. OSU on their visit 2 weeks later, could have won but undone by -4 in turnovers.
Anyway, take that FWIW: I'd argue it's more likely for U-M to get a worse PSU if they have 0 losses versus 1 (or more).
October 16th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
Understand your point but with a demoralizing loss the UM game does become a “MUST” win. (Not that both aren’t already must wins for them).
fwiw I will be rooting for PSU.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
The game's in Columbus. The Buckeyes OL hasn't shown a lot - and, they will want to make a positive impression. Allar is young and this will be the most hostile environment where he's a starter. Both teams have a lot to prove.
As others have noted, I'll cheer for the meteor.
I expect to see a bunch of this...
October 17th, 2023 at 6:49 AM ^
Allar was the top QB in Ohio and was snubbed by OSU during his recruitment. I think he comes into this game with a HUGE chip on his shoulder and will be ready to play. It’s not like he isn’t used to playing in front of 100,000 fans.
October 16th, 2023 at 5:18 PM ^
Any Michigan fan who roots for OSU after the last 20 years is a hopeless. I pray OSU turns into Rutgers or Vanderbilt for 20 years to see them suffer. Slightly sadistic, but that's how every OSU fan feels about us and we need to reciprocate that feeling.
October 16th, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
This is the only answer.
Michigan probably needs to win out regardless - Assuming Michigan runs the table, its clearly better for us for OSU to lose as many games as possible.
A PSU win over OSU sets up Michigan to
- beat a Top 3 or 4 ranked PSU team on road
- end the regular season by knocking OSU out of any possible chance to backdoor their way into the playoffs a second year in a row.
October 17th, 2023 at 6:50 AM ^
Every OSU loss sends them closer to BPONE and I would love for them to set up camp there.
October 17th, 2023 at 9:42 AM ^
The only valid upside I see to an OSU win is that it would make it harder to fire Day even as we continue to beat his teams annually. This would draw out the BPONE like a slow, agonizing torture for the singularly-focused nuthead faithful... though, canning Day could result in a coaching carousel situation leading to a real downward spiral. Either way, M just needs to keep winning, baby!
October 16th, 2023 at 5:19 PM ^
I think PSU - tbh I was hoping OSU lost to ND and would've lost to Wiscy, though that looks unrealistic. It'd be good to dent their recruiting dominance, to dent their credibility as a national power, and to have them fall down to the pack. 3 straight losses to us, and a clear spot as 3rd place in the pre-expansion Big Ten, would make a powerful argument.
Will there be a concurrent rise from PSU? Potentially. I've long felt PSU is a sleeping giant - a larger state than Ohio, almost as football mad, and the premier program for the entire Northeast (sure not as crazy as most of the rest of the country but...still in football first America, and with a population near equal to what the rest of the big ten has). But...I dunno, maybe because of the last 20(!) years, it's hard to fear an insurgent PSU as much as a resurgent OSU. So knock the king down, and have confidence we can rule the resultant roost.
