Who are your all-time "Jordan Morgan" type players? (Football & Men's Basketball)
In all the J-Mo love, it got me thinking...who are the ALL-TIME JORDAN MORGAN'S?
I don't have the correct words to describe exactly what I'm looking for, but if you've watched Michigan basketball over Jordan Morgan's tenure at Michigan the past 8-9 years...you know what I mean.
Whether under appreciated or under-the-radar are the correct descriptions, I don't know. But someone who embodies the career of Morgan.
For example, in the football world. Ryan Van Bergen comes to mind. Kovacs, Heininger and Martin somewhat, but moreso RVB (if you're talking about recent guys). In basketball Zack Novak comes to mind, but I feel that's the easy answer. We need to dig deeper.
Anyway, let's hear it...who are some of your all-time J-Mo's?!
I think he played a year with Phil Hubbard, but came in after the Green/Grote years. Dude had a sweet 'fro if memory serves.
The team leadership award is named after him, and he's a former team captain from around the time I was a student there (1978-1982). This was one of the dark periods of Michigan basketball. The end of the Johnny Orr reign and beginning of Bill Frieder's. But Garner was a mainstay of the team (along with Mike McGee) during this time.
Basketball: Wayman Britt
Football: Jordan Kovacs
Ken "Pinky" Higgins
Butch Wade and Loy Vaught
Both were Morgan-like in their intensity, toughness and leadership. Vaught had a bit more ability to score, but I loved watching them both work. Relentless.
Basketball:
Eric Reilly was one mentioned above and I agree
Beat me to it.
Michael Talley, Eric Reilly, and maybe Craig Roh
Talley is a good one.
How about Travis Conlan?
Already mentioned, but I think Vincent Smith is the closest thing in football.
- Lightly recruited durign a down time for the team.
- People talked more about who would replace him or take his snaps instead of what he could contribute beyond third down.
- Had his "not so great moment" to be forever remembered by.
And yet, he kept showing up everyday, blocking anyone who came near the QB, delivered a few special moments offensively, and helped guide the team back to a championship (Sugar Bowl at least).
Hockey's Bubba Berenzweig!
I'll go with Jason Avant. Also, does Jeremy Gallon fit this category?
Ronald Bellamy.
