What is Your Favorite Christmas Song and Movie/Special?

Submitted by xtramelanin on December 24th, 2019 at 8:28 PM

Mates,

The family is picking out a Christmas movie/special to watch tonight and we are letting the kids choose.  That said, us adults have our favorites.  For the older crowd some will like the original 'Its a Wonderful Life' with Jimmy Stewart and White Christmas with Bing Crosby.  Others might like the 1964 version of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.  Some of the slightly newer offerings are Charlie Brown's Christmas, the original Grinch, Scrooged, The Santa Clause, and Home Alone.  And of course the action flicks like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard that some classify as Christmas movies.

And then there are the songs.  Some we all probably hate (anybody that actually likes 'Santa Baby' probably has some deeper issues), but many that most folks love like Silent Night, White Christmas, and many others.

So this Christmas Eve Night Questions are simple:

1.  What is your favorite Christmas type of movie or special?

2.  What is your favorite Christmas song?

Wishing you all a truly Merry Christmas, and for those that attribute religious significance to it, that the holiday is fulfilling and enjoyable.

See my post above. It's A Wonderful Life is my favorite movie. Fred Klaus is highly under-rated though. The best of modern Christmas movies to me.

In terms of songs, my classic favorite is O Holy Night. Such a powerful song. Modern song would probably be Last Christmas but there is not a clear favorite

O Holy Night is my favorite too. Brings tears to my eyes each time I listen to it and pay attention to the words. A lady used to sing it before Midnight mass at St. Hugo when I was younger. And it blew me away. Plus I think it was in an intense scene from a Home Alone.

As for movies, Elf is one of my favorites. Although many Christmas movies are great.

Every year we watch in the days leading up to Christmas the two best Christmas movies of the last 30 years: "Elf" and "Christmas Vacation." This year we did both of them as a double feature last night. As I write this, I am watching the Hawaii Bowl while my daughter watches "Home Alone" on her iPad, I think for the second time today.

As for songs, you can't go wrong with "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "Santa Baby," or "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

not enough of that sentiment about marriage in the world.  and yeah, i'm fairly convinced that mrs. XM can almost walk on water. i have said many a day, she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

merry Christmas right back at you hatter (and everybody else), i hope your midnight mass brings you to joyful tears.

I love everything about Christmas, both religious and secular, so it's basically impossible for me to choose a single favorite.

I love all of the old Rankin Bass claymation shows, especially Nestor the Christmas Donkey. Elf and Christmas Vacation are the two movies we seem to watch most.

For music I like anything with a big choir and a massive pipe organ. This annoys Mrs and little Hatter, but Miss Hatter loves it since she was also a choir nerd.

I also have a Nat King Cole Christmas album that I've had to buy 3 times now.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas. May God bless each and every one of you. Even the sparties and Buckeyes.

Christmas Vacation is by far my favorite. Christmas Story is a tradition since TBS plays it 24 hours straight. Wake up early on Christmas morning and light up the smoker and watch Christmas Story until others wake up.

My favorite classical Christmas song is All Through the Night played on a piano. My favorite modern Christmas song is Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.

My favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone.

Fun topic XM.

Christmas vacation, Elf, and Home Alone all play regularly here.  I think I would pick Home Alone personally.

For song, there are a few renditions of Little Drummer Boy out there that I really like.  For King and Country’s version and also White Heart’s version of that song is one of my faves.  Extreme 80’s hair bandish!

"I'm Mister white xmas, I'm Mr Snow,

I'm Mr Icicle, I'm Mr 10 below

friends call me Freeze Miser,

whatever I touch turns to snow in my cluch...

I'm too much..."

I really enjoyed Arthur Christmas when my kids made me watch.

Merry Christmas!

Weeeeell, it was released around Christmas time 1994, so it feels like Christmas movie from that initial impression as all of our family was in town and we all went to see it.

BUT, there's some indirect Christmas vibes in the movie, AND, one of the lead characters is named Lloyd Christmas, so there's that. If you kind of squint it's a Christmas movie.

If Bing is in it I'll watch it. I personally will watch The Bells of St Marys tonight because I would watch it with my grandparents as a child.

For song give me Willie K's Oh Holy Night

In spite of my secular leanings I love the sound of Christmas songs in a church. Silent Night is one of my favorites. And I’ve always loved “What Child is This?” But is there anything better than the Hallelujah chorus from Handel’s Messiah? Belting it out at the end of Christmas mass—incredible. Almost enough to get me back in church.
