What is the timetable we are looking at?

Submitted by MichiganFan1984 on

I’m not going to lie, I can’t stop searching for more news on this. I think he needs to be fired, but if not I want to know that as well. Does anyone have a clue on how long this is going to take? Am I wasting my time to keep looking online? Anyone live in Cbus, if so what is the vibe down there? I feel like if this happened to us, the media would have tents set up outside of the athletic facility and our coaches house. Curious if this is going on down there?

Honestly?  what does it matter..... uncertainty in their program is to the benefit of everyone BUT them.    Let it drag on.... let the recruits wonder who the coach is going to be, if there will be NCAA punishment, if urbs starts to have 'medical issues' because of stress.

Yep, if they hire an outside investigative firm bilking them for $500/hour it's pretty much guaranteed this would drag on into next year.

If they don't, Gene Smith gets accused of a whitewash job and the victim sues.

Either way, OSU loses.

FWIW, Columbus radio has been holding a wake for the past 24 hours.  The local hacks are generally all resigned to the fact that he’s done.  It’s been glorious.  I doubt I’ll get much done at work today.  That being said, I believe he’s relieved of his duties before the start of the season.

Well they will probably attempt to interview everyone involved including urban (last) and collect text and email evidence so nothing comes out later and so they can claim due diligence.

If he sticks to his guns about not knowing, which I bet he does (if he is a honest guy he would have told the truth the first time about not knowing...if he is not an honest guy, again, he says what is best for his ego and position, he didn't know). Only thing that changes this would likely be his wife rolling over on him, or direct evidence.

OSU has an incentive to wrap this up relatively quickly due camp, but not too quickly due the media unless direct evidence comes out, then expect something soon after. (If they acvounce incestigation results too  fsoon it looks like they didnt aat thorough. Remember they also have a rabid donor fan base who woukd get MSU upset if it appears to them to be a sham court.

I would expect next week by Friday they would have everything they need to see where the university stands.

If they don't have a genuine reason to not take him at his word, he might be crucified in the court of public opinion, but likely survives with some sort of university sanction for two reasons, as a finding of knowledge would invite the NCAA to send a show cause letter which they really don't want, and as OSU believes this is the season where all the pieces are together inc. favorable schedule and talent.

I think by August 17 he will either be reinstated or given a slight punishment. Or he’ll be fired.

That said, obviously Gene Smith works for him, but their new president DOESN’T bow down to Urbs. I think this is something that might bubble up to the president and not the AD and in that case, I think he is gone.

His one saving grace is that Shelley is 100% likely going to lose her job at OSU and be stripped of her nursing license. (All RNs in Ohio must report). So she might be willing to fall on the sword and be the scape goat. (Which I think is the most likely possibility)

“I’m not going to lie”, can someone let me know when it’s time to come back to the blog when i wont have to read 20 posts about Zach Smith and Urban Meyer?

Can the mods please reduce this down to one Meyer/Smith post per day?

And finally, ”I’m not going to lie” is a really messed up way to start a sentence. So normally you are?

Folks, fair or not but Urban will most likely face a short suspension, fine, and official reprimand. The precedence is Colorado football 2016. Similar situation, but a little bit worst since the victim went directly to the head coach. That coach did nothing and still has his job to this day.

2 differences...

1. MacIntyre was never placed on administrative leave if I recall correctly and there was not text messages and pictures of the documented abuse for the public to see.

2. Colorado football is low on the totem poll when it comes to sports coverage nationally. As we speak every major news organization in this country is coming to Columbus to cover this story. And are trying to unearth new details as we speak.

I'll take the bait.  If he gets booted, he's definitely gone before the season starts.  Likely within the next week or two after the lawyers agree on separation terms.

But I still hold there's a chance he gets out of this.  It's easy for OSU to say Meyer reported everything to the school as soon as he knew about it, that he and the school were aware of ongoing issues at home with Smith and were working with him to get treatment, blah blah.  When that didn't work, they decided to get divorced and the university thought the situation was over.  I'm not saying they should do this, I'm just saying I think there's a small chance the internal investigation exonerates Meyer.  They probably called the people who investigated Dantonio and Izzo.

I live in Columbus. There seem to be plenty of Urban defenders here, but I have to say it is far more split than during the Tressel saga. Easily the most popular local sports talk show (you may remember it from one former member asking when Desmond Howard would die so he could watch Gameday again) came out pretty hard against Urban, saying it is more likely that Patino didn't know about the hookers at Louisville than Urban not knowing about the events in 2015. Almost universally, though, people think he will be fired.

This will all be over as soon as the lawyers can figure out how to draft a buyout agreement with out using any words containing the letter "m." Because priorities.

I just simply refuse to believe it..OLIEO ST will do what OLIEO St ALWAYS does...Gene Smith will say all the PC correct things...they will stall...then they will suspend him for the first quarter of the game against NE New Hampshire St and call it a day....Its what they Do...bank on it

Local response from Columbus area:

Living just outside Columbus and listening to the sports radio, the reaction has ranged from somber to outrage over Meyer's arrogance and stupidity. Some of them are expecting him to be fired and supporting that decision.

I'm thinking they (radio guys and local media) always knew what everyone else knew: he was, at best, a borderline scumbag. But he was THEIR scumbag and he wins. Now that he has been exposed for his hypocrisy, they are being highly critical and expressing anger at his soiling of their proud institution's reputation. They are saying things like "No one person is more important than THEE Ohio State University. That was the mistake Tressel made when he covered for players receiving illicit benefits (tatoos). Why couldn't Urban have learned that from JT's mistake and fired Smith immediately when he learned that he was STILL abusing his wife?"

Many outside the radio booths are defending Meyer, but most seem to recognize the gravity of his non-action, and recognize that a firing would be an appropriate response (especially considering the current scandal regarding the Athletic department's team doctor and his sexually abusive behavior that was tolerated for years).

This is what I'm hearing here on the ground in Cbus.

The only real question is: Which elite coach will fall into their lap this time?  I’m going with Stoops. It’s too perfect. Ohio State will always have all of the nice things.

I have family in Columbus and they are saying they've heard it through a few people that it might be as early as tomorrow afternoon.  Also, I heard it on Counterstrike. /s

Bob Stoops is not on the same level as Urbs.  Good coach, yes, but he was at the rich program in a weak conference when Texas was in decline.

I don't dread Stoops if that happens.

This could get really messy.  Who else at OSU new about the abuse and did nothing to report it?  It sounds like every coach on the staff may have known given Courtney was tweeting their wives.  I mean this could be a near wipe-out of the coaching staff and other program employees.

That full investigation will take time.  But as far as Urban and Shelley are concerned?  I doubt they last the weekend - fully expect Urban to announce his resignation as early as next Monday.  There will be a buyout to avoid contract litigation and to "gag" the Meyers regarding future civil litigation.  Courtney's day in criminal court has passed, but her civil case is just getting going.  But the Meyer's can be bought as they are slime.

The rest of the coaching staff in the know will go the same negotiated resignation route, but later in August so as not to disrupt fall camp.

This could really be devastating to the 2018 season as there would be no Wilson, no Schiano, maybe nobody left except Day and some of the junior position coaches.

Courtney is out to take down the program and get paid BIG $ to go away.

I unfortunately live near Columbus (olentangy for those who follow recruiting).

Lots of talk about a 3-4 game suspension for urban.  They are saying it’s going to come out how crazy she is.  It isn’t news to the osu staff or admin.  The police are going to testify on Zach’s behalf.  This is all second hand but I guess is all over their message boards.

Time for Harbaugh to kick his ass!  Go blue!
