What is Moe Wagner allowed to do for Franz?

So, I know there are a ton of NCAA rules out there on what players are allowed to receive. However, it struck me that family members are allowed to do different things for their own family. And I realized Moe Wagner is in the NBA all-star game in Chicago. I wondered if that means that Franz could theoretically play Sunday afternoon, take a limo to Detroit Metro, catch a flight to Chicago, go to the all-star game, and fly back either late Sunday or early Monday, all on Moe's dime. Is that possible? Obviously, that'd be a pretty cool perk for Franz (although highly unlikely to happen.)

Pretty sure there aren’t any family limits for NCAA purposes.

Programs run into trouble when boosters or coaches, directly or indirectly, are assisting the player financially. That can influence a recruit’s decision or give a benefit that other students wouldn’t receive.

A kid with a wealthy family, whether student athlete or not, is going to have the exact advantages no matter where they go. I’d be pretty surprised if the NCAA has the power to step between an athlete and his family, but it is a pretty shitty organization so I wouldn’t rule it out completely.

For those that watched the movie Blind Side with Michael Oher, you will recall that the NCAA gave the kid a lot of grief for his adoptive family “pushing him” to Ole Miss.

I think the answer is “anything he wants.” I think Moe could gift Franz a million dollars and a Bentley to drive himself to the All Star game and the NCAA couldn’t do a damn thing.

Who knows with the NCAA, but I suspect that family can provide just about anything financially.  If Moe wanted to buy two tickets to watch the game and bring Franz, sure....why not?

I do think there would be potential issues with team staff and agents....but doubt the NCAA looks that close.  Think of it this way, if Moe had a brother who was 11 years old and brought him to some NBA stuff where he was doing the shootaround before a game, or in the locker room....the NCAA won't care.

My Michigan roommate was a manager for the 1989 championship team. He got into coaching and went to Cleveland State with Mike Boyd. I don't know the entire circumstances, but he went to a HS game his brother was playing and had to self report a violation because a recruit was playing for the other team. I don't know the while story because we learned it from my wife's friend. She had taken a job with NCAA compliance. She recognized my roommates name.

LSU's coach is on tape talking about paying players and no one cares, NCAA looks the other way.  Moe is allowed to do whatever he wants for Franz.  NCAA isn't going to do anything.

The NCAA restrictions concerning benefits to student athletes and prospective student athletes do not apply to close family members. Mo can give Franz anything he wants.

Does Juwan Howard have to avoid speaking to Jace during non-contact periods? Obviously, the NCAA can't limit relationships between immediate family members.

I mean, Franz would probably miss a couple of practices and get punished by the team, but I don't think it would violate any NCAA rules. I guess if he wants to be a complete dumbass, then he should go for it.
