What if we win on Sat?

Submitted by lilpenny1316 on

Has anybody thought about the consequences aftermath of us winning on Saturday?  I know it seems like a distant possibility, but at the end of the day...it's still Rutgers.  If this game was based solely on talent, we win the first half by 2 TDs.  Plus road games are preferred as opposed to playing in what has become a toxic environment.

I believe Hoke is officially done if we are no longer bowl eligible, like "Press Conference at 11AM Monday Done".  And I think getting to 6 or 7 wins just delays that press conference until December or January.

But I would at least like to hear what people's reactions/feelings may be after a positive outcome especially under such negative circumstances.  Will it be "let bygones be bygones" in relations to Hoke?  I think we may be 3-3 come 10PM Saturday night.  Am I crazy?  I mean...it's still Rutgers.

If we win?  I seriously expect us to win easily.  It delays things, however, Hoke is gone at the end of the season under almost any circumstances.

Let's not forget that we're playing in front of "fans" who chanted "F--- You, Navy" in 2007.  If they're that hostile to a team representing a branch of our Armed Forces, I can't even imagine how ugly they'll be toward the Maize and Blue.

Do things like that truly impact a team's performance on the field?  I wouldn't think so, but our road record certainly isn't reassuring.

Win or lose, I'll be looking for sustained discipline. I think that playing with emotion, but keeping those emotions under control, will be the most challenging part of the game this Saturday. Given all the distractions and emotions of the week, I could see emotions running high but losing discpline (penalties, miscues, etc.). I could also see emotions running low, and a flat performance or folding in the face of adversity.

Even if they lose, if they appear to keep their emotional edge but stay in control, that will be a good sign for the direction of the team.

Even if they win, if they appear to be undisciplined or flat, that will be a bad sign for the direction of the team.

I don't see how firing Hoke mid season would be beneficial at this point. I think it would disrupt things even further as far as the players are concerned. The kids want him there.

Win will cause me to... Shrug and wonder who the new coach and AD will be.

Loss will cause me to... Shrug and wonder who the new coach and AD will be.

It's really good for the players, it is neutral at best for the coaches, they prove nothing without wins at little brother and Ohio.  And the fans could use a little oxygen too.

power conference programs this year.  Notre Dame, Utah and Minnesota.  They have scored 24 total points against those schools, 17 on offense.  While allowing 87 points.

We have seen nothing from this program that suggests they can compete with even poor power 5 conference opponents.

Rutgers haven't been world beaters either, with 3 wins over Navy, Tulane and Howard and a loss to Penn State 10-13.  Thier one power 5 win came against Washington State in the years first game 41-38.  Washington State just beat Utah 28-27.

What you can conclude is Rutgers, Washington State and Utah are all probably pretty similar in strengths and weaknesses and given the way the Utah/Michigan game went this game with Rutgers should give you the heebee jeebies.

It doesn't or shouldn't matter.

I don't see how they can win. You can almost count on a couple special teams errors.

A missed FG or two.

A couple turnovers if not 3.

That's a lot to overcome. If it happens Rutgers should be embarrassed.

To tell me one thing - one thing - you have seen from this team this year to give you the idea they can win at Rutgers. "We have more talent" and "It's still Rutgers" don't count. If we beat every team we had more "talent" than, we wouldn't be in this fucking position.

I saw DG come in the game last week and move the team right down the field. I see a decent Defense that would be even better if the offense picked up their game. That might happen if they use the read option a lot more . Holding out hope the coaching staff realizes that.

revert back to DG.14 and hork up a ball to avoid a sack that if thrown near any D-1 player not wearing a Minnesota uniform results in an INT deep in Michigan territory.

Yes, he is clearly the best option we have at QB now.  But as crazy as it is to say it, there's a reason why Shane was given a start last weekend even though it should have been obvious to everyone that he wasn't ready.  DG cant be trusted to make smart decisions with the football when things get sideways.  Still.

If Gardner returns to last year's form we may actually win some games along the way.

Even if Hoke goes 7-5 with  losses to MSU/OSU, he's probably gone, I think.  If he manages to get a win over one of those two rivals he may wind up saving his job.

However I am not expecting any of that, unfortunately.  I'm expecting 2-10.  Hope springs eternal.

and the Nuss-O.  That Hoke FINALLY Unshackled-Unhampered Nuss.

This would FURTHER indicate the Clear Need to FIRE Hoke now--  and then move Nuss to Interim-HC.  Or something like that anyway.

Actually--  the Nuss-O needs to do ANOTHER Horrific-O Effort, which will Trigger Another Loss.  THIS--  will Trigger a firing of Hoke, and a Movement Of Nuss to Interim-HC.

Its a Win-Win situation for Nuss  . . .

UM loses-Hoke is eventually fired
UM wins-Hoke is eventually fired
UM ties-Hoke is eventually fired
UM loses while playing 11 probably mildly concussed players on offense-Hoke enters witness protection and moves to Guam.

Means Michigan won't go winless in the conference.  I do think it will be interesting to see what happens if the team rallies a bit before MSU.  The next couple of games are very winnable, and while I hope it doesn't save anyone's job, it would be nice for the players if this team can at least get to a bowl game before this administration moves on.

I'm thinking more along the lines of ... maybe it would have been better if we lost to Akron & UConn last year. We might have gotten to this point much quicker.

I've thought about this myself, but it seems to me that even if we do beat Rutgers - as the expectation would have been in August - I don't know that this alone is enough to overcome what has transpired this season to make me think that most folks would revert to a "sit and wait" sort of posture. I can see a scenario where, if the rest of the season were somehow awesome for us, Hoke gets a pass from many perhaps, but I think with each loss and each PR miscue from the athletic department, the bar gets higher.

in everyone's life when they just have to suck it up and get it done.   my guess is the little hat covers a bald spot, or maybe the shirt covers an embarrassing tattoo about some long-departed girl, or even a school in ohio.  sure he's repented from all that, but it's a dark part of his pre-mod life.   here's to michigan beating rutgers and you all streaking.   even BisB.

I sense a heck of a game form the offense. Finally we play with passion and a fire in our bellies. We move the ball well the whole game, but let them back into it with an interception or fumble. Michigan win 24-17. Quiet the crowd for a bit until the next shit storm erupts.

We'd have beaten a shitty team with a shitty QB who handed us at least 14 free points.  It would change nothing.  Only win that changes anything would be all of them.  Even then...

If we win vs Rutgers it will make us 2-8 versus Big 5 conference teams in the last 10 games instead of 1-9.  That's what it will mean if we win.

  1. Minn
  2. Utah
  3. ND
  4. KSU
  5. OSU
  6. Iowa
  7. NW - woo hoo
  8. Nebraska
  9. MSU
