What if I told you...
...before the season started that...
- ...a traditional football powerhouse...
- ...coming off of a 10-3 season...
- ...and a disappointing 2nd place finish in it's division...
- ...which had seemingly been passed by it's traditional rival...
- ...would bring in a new offensive coordinator...
- ...and completely change its approach to offense...
- ...and that its senior, transfer quarterback (with Ohio roots) would shatter records...
- ...by throwing to an array of ultra-talented, but previously under-utilized receivers...
- ...and that ultimately they would completely overwhelm their opponents on their way to an undefeated National Championship season
Not sure about you, but I would have been pretty excited!
January 14th, 2020 at 7:32 AM ^
...and then to be extremely disappointed when it turns out to be LSU?
Now pat yourself on your back. You tried way too hard to be cute with this post.
January 14th, 2020 at 7:42 AM ^
Yes, satansnutsack, I would have been (and was) disappointed when it turned out to be LSU
January 14th, 2020 at 7:43 AM ^
I would probably say you’re weird
January 14th, 2020 at 7:59 AM ^
...you are about to be negged.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:40 AM ^
Not sure if you heard, but this is now an LSU blog. We are living vicariously through their success.
January 14th, 2020 at 9:07 AM ^
We have been living vicariously through OSU and MSU losing for awhile now.
When your own program struggles to win, gotta take what you can get.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:00 AM ^
We lacked the QB, more than any other element. Some other parts were missing, but QB locked the gate shut.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:04 AM ^
Yet we heard non stop how great our qb room was. The coverage of this team is so ridiculous.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:27 AM ^
C'mon. Michigan's "coverage" is designed to sell advertising. Hyping up Michigan carries no risk for the DetNews or Freep. They'll win regardless of the outcome. From that perspective, the coverage is not ridiculous.

OT: OP, FFS get rid of those apostrophes.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:52 AM ^
Just you wait, it'll start again soon! You always hear about the QB looking great when they're in hitting open receivers in practice!
January 14th, 2020 at 10:12 AM ^
Yes...read this blog over the last 12 months and you would be convinced we had the deepest QB room and depth at RB in the B10.
Then you see Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence and you get to see what a real QB looks like. You watch Ettienne and Dobbins and see what a real RB looks like.
January 14th, 2020 at 11:02 AM ^
I'd like to see your posts from August about how sure you were that our QBs all suck.
January 14th, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
I guarantee you that if you would go back and read every single one of my posts you will see nothing praising our RB's or QB's. Milton will never start...and if he does look for 7 wins max. McCaffrey looks promising but no one knows yet if he can consistently make every throw. Does look like an athlete though.
January 16th, 2020 at 2:46 PM ^
It looks like OSU has a prototypical back and I am guessing they know exactly the type they are looking for at other positions as well. It looks like we, on the other hand, have a wide range of recruits who may be plugged in as backs or LBs, or Slot Receivers depending on what happens during the course of camp. I don't know if OSU has a system regarding player type like Bill Walsh and the 49ers did or if that's why they have success but it looks like they are a machine n that regard because their player types look standard from year to year.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:10 AM ^
QB play was not close to the level of these teams but more than anything our defense wouldn't be able to keep us in these types of games because they give up too many big plays. However LSU was just a juggernaut this year and no defense would have stopped it
January 14th, 2020 at 10:07 AM ^
When the offense can't score more than 25 points against 4 of the best 6 teams we played, you need to stop blaming the defense.
January 14th, 2020 at 10:19 AM ^
With consistent QB play, that helps the defense by possessing the ball more. The bowl game is a prime example of that this season. If Shea is on target, Michigan picks up some 3rd downs, Michigan likely wins that game.
January 14th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
very true
January 14th, 2020 at 10:02 AM ^
This is why I don't listen to anything Sam says unless it's a guy feeling on recruiting. Even on here for years I read the preseason magazine for entertainment, not facts.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:06 AM ^
So your saying were taking JT Costello and he will throw for 61 td's next year with 31 to Nico and we win the Natty?
January 14th, 2020 at 8:08 AM ^
Sign me up!
January 14th, 2020 at 8:10 AM ^
Is that KJ’s superior brother or something?
January 14th, 2020 at 12:06 PM ^
No, it's the son of Costello and JT Barrett.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:07 AM ^
Hoke went hard after Burrow, and early. Makes one wonder had Hoke not picked that staff he was familiar with, and instead hired guys like Warinner, if he'd had made it. Save OL, he seemed to recruit better than we are now.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:51 AM ^
Biggest issue with Hoke was having Brandon as an AD constantly micro-managing stuff. His offensive recruiting was very hit or miss, mostly miss at QB, and was not near as good as now. Defensively he was noticeably better though.
It is kind of interesting to think about, what if Hoke had a legit AD and hired a quality modern offensive minded OC and assistants what would've happened.
January 14th, 2020 at 9:07 AM ^
Would Hoke have survived with Burrow? No.
Would Burrow have survived with Hoke? Hahahahahaha
January 14th, 2020 at 9:26 AM ^
Which stud QB did he end up signing instead of Burrow? How big was the gap between the two?
January 14th, 2020 at 10:15 AM ^
While Joe Burrow did complete 76% of his passes, score 60 TDs, and win the Heisman, Alex Malzone was 0-4 last year for 0 yards. So pretty comparable.

The horse has been out of that barn for quite some time
January 14th, 2020 at 8:52 AM ^
Yeesh... This expression is almost as bad as the thread itself.
The dark days are here my friends.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:24 AM ^
What if I told you we had a QB that spent more of the summer golfing instead of working with his WRs and new offensive coach, and his team was bad at passing the ball?
January 14th, 2020 at 11:17 AM ^
MICHIGAN:
Install pro style offense.
Hasn't had a pro level QB since Chad Henne.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:26 AM ^
I logged in specifically to down vote. What a try hard post.

You only used "its" properly once out of 3 times. What if I told you that?
January 14th, 2020 at 11:34 AM ^
its not something that would bother me, so for all intensive purposes you would be wasting you're time.

Not sure the bullet points really work here.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:37 AM ^
I would have told you to shove this click bait title up your arse.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:53 AM ^
What if I told you this was pointless clickbait?
January 14th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
I would agree.
January 14th, 2020 at 8:53 AM ^
Stop comparing our shit show of a team to other teams that got over the hump. We need a new coaching staff for the love of god. That’s the only way anything will change. We are not LSU. Jim Harbaugh is not Dabo swinney. We got embarrassed again in a bowl game that should have been at least competitive. The team is not gonna suddenly improve that much in year 6. We lose so much talent this year. 4 new starters on the oline. It doesn’t matter who the qb is. If we can’t get protection it’s gonna be a long season of turnovers mistakes pain and suffering. Yet some morons will still believe everything is fine
January 14th, 2020 at 9:28 AM ^
You should stop letting a game played by teenagers make you this upset.
January 14th, 2020 at 10:14 AM ^
Then why are you on a blog devoted to the play of young teenagers?
January 14th, 2020 at 9:04 AM ^
Ummmmmm........OK
January 14th, 2020 at 9:19 AM ^
Cool, so we have LSU's defensive and offensive lines?
January 14th, 2020 at 9:22 AM ^
Is LSU a traditional football powerhouse?
They only have 4 national titles (3 of which have come since 2003). They are 11th in Win % and 12th in overall wins (2019 data excluded because football.stassen hasn't been updated yet). 16 conference titles, and 2 Heisman winners.
As the football demographics shift south they are certainly benefiting, all of their previous 3 coaches have won national titles.
But does that make them a traditional football powerhouse? I'm not so sure. They are a football powerhouse currently though, that is not in question.
January 14th, 2020 at 10:28 AM ^
Why does labeling LSU have to matter?
Like you said, they've won it all three times since 2003. I'd take that. What fan wouldn't -- only Bama has won it more since 2003.
By the criteria in your post, Michigan is most definitely not a "traditional football powerhouse" either.
January 14th, 2020 at 1:03 PM ^
What are you talking about.
Michigan has 11 national titles (10 of which are from 1948 or earlier). We are #1 most wins and probably 2 or 3 in win pct. Also we have won 42 conference titles (haven't won one in 16 years) and had 3 Heisman winners (haven't had one in 22 years).
We are very much a traditional powerhouse. What we are not is a current powerhouse.
