What Do We Need to Do To Beat Iowa?

What do you think we need to do to beat Iowa next week? I have two things.

1. Learn to cover drag routes.

2. Replace Glasgow (Dax looks great). He is a liability and we need more speed out there. I know he plays hard, but he was exposed bad today and it's not like this is the first game he has been exposed.

Trust Shea. It might be hard to do sometimes but we never succeed when we don’t trust our quarterback. Let him rip it.

I don’t know if this is being talked about, but his 30 yard laser on the run to Tarik Black was a really fucking impressive NFL throw. There was so much velocity and accuracy on the pass.

Continuing that point, Shea throws a beautiful ball on the run. We gotta try to intentionally roll him out more to use that to or advantage. Also gotta use his legs. His running game has been so nonexistent that people forget that he can actually run.

Will be a tough game, but I think we may surprise a lot of people and win fairly handily. If we do prospects for a decent season go way up, because I do think the offense needed time to get in gear, and another easy game against Illinois the following week gives Gattis and co. time to tweak.

I don't think it's hard to imagine that if Shea is still recovering from a rib injury that they limited his running this week, but I agree that we need the full array of options next week against Iowa, including a sharpened Charbonnet and a less sheepish Shea.

More of the same from today:

No turnovers

No drive killing penalties

Establish a rhythm on offense

Run for at least 150 yards

Pass for 250 -300 yards

Be more assignment disciplined on Defense

More four man line play

More Cam McGrone

No silly penalties on Defense

Create a turnover on Defense or Special Teams

Michigan absolutely needs to establish the run game against Iowa. We won't win if we don't. On the flipside, the Wolverines need to hold Iowa's run game in check and force Stanley to beat them through the air.

If we have more than 2 turnovers we will have lost. Iowa is very well coached and doesn't turn the ball over much at all. Michigan can't be sloppy in this one.

Healthy Ross and Dwumfour will help a ton.

Ross takes over for Glasgow at WILL keep McGrone at MIKE.

Offensively we have to start keeping it with the QB. We don’t have a home run threat in the backfield so we need to open it up.

Replace glasgow?  Maybe we should try starting our other 5 star linebacker instead of glasgow.. just a hunch

Also having uche play linebacker I don't get it.

Didnt he play defensive end all last year?  He is a terror on the edge

At the game today....Much much better execution on offense, but still a long ways away from being a contending offense.  My observations are...

1) Shea needs to read the defense better (recurring theme through 4 games)

2) Formations are very predictable

3)Tempo/clock management is still horrible

4) Power running out of shotgun is just a waste of a down (see #2)

5)  Get the ball to the playmakers outside or on quick crossing routes (see 1-4)

In summation, there was visible progress today, but it’s Rutger!  If they are able to improve on these things vs Iowa, they should win.  Get the young guys in the rotation on defense to build better depth as they (for the most part) didn’t get much pressure on the qb until late.  They can take IA if they actually improve over this week of practice...even slightly.  A blowout win after a dud can only help, so job well done today.

Score more points.

We need to take this week's game plan and amplify by turning it up to 11.  This week's game plan can beat Iowa, knowing that both lines will be much more stout.

I don't agree that Dax looked "great".  On their first 3rd down, he looked lost and had Art seen his WR, he gives up first down (Khaleke spent the entire pre-snap trying to get Dax in position).  He looked good with promise as a great hitter (special teams and the screen he disrupted).  His upside is incredible, but Glasgow (when not playing DE) has better instincts and tackling form right now, though not the speed.

I really think the opponents linebackers are teeing off on the running backs. They know the back is getting the ball. Hopefully we start seeing some keepers, Qb power and some other interesting things.

We have to do something different in the run game against Iowa.

I think we need a fast start and somehow avoid the bad break that seem to always go against us. I don’t think we necessarily need any breaks to go our way, we just don’t need them to go against us. Our problem isn’t that we fumble, but we seem to fumble at the worst time. Bad spots happen, but for us it’s at the worst time. Penalties get called, but again, it feels like they happen at the worst time. We can deal with a little rain, but a monsoon hits at the worst time. So please, for the love of God let us play a half way decent team and not have something like that happen.

Each of us must suffer some sort of inconvenient yet urgent task that will, at the last second, preclude us from being able to watch the game.

Then and only then will Michigan play phenomenally well and beat Iowa thoroughly, in a once in a lifetime thrashing.

But if we're able to watch, Michigan will look like crap and we'll lose.

The main issue has been inexplicable mental mistakes. Not knowing the play after we get a huge gain, fumbling on the first drive, throwing into 3 defenders instead of trying to run or taking a sack, putting in a linebacker to run the ball, etc. Just playing a clean game makes us so much better. Even against Wisconsin if we didn't collapse mentally on the first drive it may have been a different game. If we cut those out against Iowa then I think we would win the game. Against Rutgers it was the first time I saw us limiting these mistakes. The one turnover was not a bad turnover it was just an under throw and good defensive play. The main error I saw was the muffed fair catch which was unacceptable. Hopefully its even cleaner against Iowa and we win.

Get a big play on special teams (blocked punt, long return, etc.)

Cut down on the penalties - still too many and Iowa is not a team to give away freebies

Get off the field on 3rd downs - been a problem too many times this year for the D

Use Dax on  few offensive plays - even if as a decoy. He has the special skills that Jabrill had
