What 3 Things Have To Happen to get the W Next Week?

Submitted by Eli on November 23rd, 2019 at 9:08 PM

First of all a shoutout to all my Michigan Brothers that came to Bloomington for the game. It was great to meet and talk to so many Michigan fans. That was worth the drive and I'm glad I went. Staying in Indy for the night.

What 3 things need to happen to get the W next week? I will go first...

1. NO turnovers for us and we need to force at least one.

2. Fast start. We cannot fall behind.

3. DPJ needs to have his moment. Punt Return for TD, me thinks.

All of these are possible, but damn it is going to be tough. I am going to try to be optimistic this week.

1. Between the tackles running game, 4.5 ypc

2. Quick passing game, RPO, big game for Eubanks or McKeon

3. +2 in Turnovers, double or chip Young every time.

1. Shea and the WRs need to have career days in the pass game, and Gattis has to playcall to get them that opportunity. If we turtle, we die.

2. Don Brown has to have the best coaching day of his career. Here's the thing. JH talked about DB having answers for MSU's adjustments. But OSU will have answers for DB's answers, so DB has to be able to adjust multiple times, on-the-fly. He has not been able to do this. Last year, he adjusted to OSU's gameplan, then OSU adjusted their gameplan again and Don had no answer. So he needs to be more flexible than last year.

3. We will need help with TOs or special teams to even things out. Be on the plus side of the TO battle, or get a kick return for a TD.

All of these things need to happen for us to win.

1) Hold OSU to less than 40 points at a minimum

2) Proper adjustment at halftime to OSU's exploits

3) No turnovers & capitalize on OSU's mistakes.

Additional - Bring the crowd that showed up against Notre Dame and create a great home field environment.

Questions on Chase Young

I honestly havent watched Young much this year. What I have seen of him, hes quick as hell and chases after the qb relentlessly. Can he be ran at, as in does he like being smashed into or does he run around people and make plays? Is this a good game for Mason to hit him several times? Can we scheme against his aggressiveness like the way really good teams were scheming against Browns defenses the last couple years?

It would be a great game for Mason to plow through him a few times.  However, Bench is best used to flatten LBs.  I don't think he'll get a crushing block on Young because a tackle will be in the way (hopefully).  Nonetheless, you can bet that he'll never be left all alone with an OT - someone will help on every play.

patterson must play a clean game, make great decisions (in all facets, both pre and post snap) and get the ball out on time to his playmakers.  give collins and crew a chance to impact the game.

win 3rd down.  osu will move the ball and score - but when you get them to 3rd downs, gotta find a way to get off the field.  and that includes limiting fields ability to pick up cheap or easy conversions.

be sound, do your job, tackle well.  force fields and co to be methodical every time out.  no big play TDs

  1. Like the 1969 game (and yes, I was there --- I don't call myself "Der Alte" -- "the Old One" for nothing!) M will need more than one turnover. tOSU turned the ball over six times in that 1969 game, mostly in the second half, which added greatly to the margin of victory. Today's game against Penn State was closer than it might have been because of tOSU TOs.
  2.  Defense. M needs to play as well as that side of the ball as they have ever played this season. Josh got a little banged up in the IU game but will hopefully be full bore on Saturday --- everyone healthy, no excuses. Fields needs to be a marked man.
  3. M needs to generate a run game. The Buckeye pass D ain't IU. If M can gain just over 100 yards rushing that should complement the passing attack, which we all know will be good.  Go Blue!

1. Chase Young tears his ACL getting off the bus

2. Fields trips over Young getting off the bus and breaks his arm.

3. Dobbins trips over Fields and Young then breaks his leg.

1.  We need a defensive game like the Iowa game and hold them to 24 or less points.

2. We need to get some good hits on their QB when passing and keep him contained from running.  He needs to be uncomfortable.

3. Our offense needs to keep doing what they have been doing lately and score more than 24 to win.    3a: Do our best to focus on plays away from their best D player.  I won't say his name.

We are at home and OSU absolutely looks like they can be beaten, yes, by us.

We are a much better team then where we were at the start of the season.

Michigan: 34

OSU 24

I truly believe we have the ability to not only stay in this game but win it.   We absolutely have to play our best football the last 3 quarters of the game.  OSU has not been in a game where they have been wore down late and I feel that is a big key to victory.

1. great gameplan, passing game catches rhythm like the last two games

2. contains Fields and Dobbins most of the times, find ways to sack Fields often

3. keep up with the scores, never behind by 2 touchdowns or more

..........

What I really want to say is:

1. coaches please find creative ways to fuck OSU

2. it's our big house, FUCK OSU

3. FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK OSU

1. Play to our strengths on offense -- pass the ball.

2. Blitz early and often to give Fields a hard time.

3. Turn Giles Jackson, Peoples-Jones, and Khaleke Hudson loose to win special teams.

1) Nicofest shall have a place in the annals of Michigan lore next to Braylonfest. To get this done, double team/chip Chase Young & Shea needs to have a career game.

2) Contain and/or rattle Fields with stunts, exotic blitzes, etc.

3) Get off to a fast start & keep things close. As the game goes on, our team will stick together during bad momentum swings & the entitled Buckeyes will start to play tight, choke, and start to turn on each other.

It doesn't matter.

The refs will screw us over on direction of the B1G office in order to ensure a B1G presence in the playoffs.

It's happened before. Recently.

1. 2+ on TOs

2. stay on down and distance by having a running game that keeps them honest. Timely Shea pulls/keeps will be critical to this

3. we have to get home on 3rd down. Whether it’s blitz or zone blitz (only bringing 3 or 4)

basically keep them off the field so they don’t get a rhythm and start pressing.

1. Neutralize Chase Young.  Don't allow him to get to Patterson.

2. Contain JK Dobbins. Hold him under 80 yards rushing.

3. Be on the plus side of the turnover battle.

They have to contain OSU's run game, win the TO margin, and use all parts of the field in the passing game.

No matter what M does, OSU is probably going to put up 40, so this new found throw game will need to continue to be on ?

1. Slow down Chase Young so that Shea has time in the pocket to hit big plays.

2. +2 TO margin or better.

3. Don Brown needs to come up big. Contain Dobbins, keep Fields in the pocket, limit high-YAC plays, etc, etc.

The trauma of last season is too fresh on people's minds. Many seem to think they're just going to score TD's on every other possession. Remember that our defensive performance in '16 and '17 were absolutely good enough to win. It's more likely that '18 was an outlier. With the adjustments that Don Brown has made we have a good shot of keeping them under ~28 points. We have a chance.

Get more points than the other team.

Get more points than the other team.

Get more points than the other team.

I feel similarly. Make somebody else beat us other than Young. I hope we don't get cocky and start single blocking him at ANY point in the game.

I was thinking before the season that I'd much rather see a bigger Steuber up against Chase Young. I'm not too confident about Mayfield.

1. Our secondary CAN’T get eaten alive.   Somehow, someway we have to deal with their speed and athletes at wide receiver.  I cry when I think of crossing routes.

2. Our edge defenders on the line of scrimmage CAN’T get eaten alive by JK Dobbins sweep runs.  He’s so fast and shifty when running around end.    Our guys need to CONTAIN like a MFer.

3.   The offense has to find something to be successful at.   They have to average 4-5 yards a run.   Shea has to be given time to pass, and we need touchdowns in the red zone, not field goals.

1. Hart needs to kick footballs

2. Coach Brown needs to cut the rushing yards to half the normal output.

3. OL needs to set themselves on beast mode. And remember the score last year.

1. Michigan needs to get to Fields. He (they) are sack prone. (see Bill Connelly's ESPN article last week previewing the PSU/OSU matchup.) (not to mention the injury potential as well)

2. Michigan's O-line needs to play their best game of the season. We know the guards will be up for the task, but Ruiz has been a bit disappointing...he needs to play his best game of the season. LT is much improved from the beginning of the season, but RT needs to play his best game of the season. If Michigan's O-line plays a mediocre/ordinary performance, OSU's D-line will force Michigan to struggle to consistently move the ball...will be held to ~250 total yards.

3. Fumble luck.
