Great job all around! DPJ's fumble on a tough low kick and Ambry's offsides are the only mistakes that come to mind, but otherwise very good
September 8th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
Uh, Nordin missed a field goal and it wasn’t particularly close
September 8th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
At least he got that shit out of the way during a blowout
September 8th, 2018 at 4:55 PM ^
The problem is most of his PATs looked like they wouldn't be good from more than 30ish. The balls not coming off his foot end over end with a lot of rotation. They're either in a flat spin and/or have a lazy, knuckleball like look to them.
September 8th, 2018 at 5:26 PM ^
on one of them it looked like the laces were backward. I think we have a problem with the center-holder exchange (maybe more holder?) that is subtlety being ignored. Hopefully it gets addressed, soon.
50/50 on the offsides call on Ambry
Hewlett could have scooped and scored, great play though for the guy
Lets just chalk this up as getting out the jitters.

Shame on you for not automatically supplying the "Laces Out" gif from Pet Detective.
I'd do it but this website is fucked up.
September 8th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
Hudson with a great punt block. He's got a nose for it. I thought there was good coverage overall on kicks. Anyone remember the ATROCIOUS special teams coverage under Rich Rod?
Nordin has GOT to be automatic within 45. Otherwise go to someone else or recruit someone else. Kind of ridiculous to be that hyped and miss a 40 yarder.
September 8th, 2018 at 3:55 PM ^
Thanks for the assist on this!
September 8th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
Hart is killing it on punts.
September 8th, 2018 at 4:13 PM ^
+1 - underrated. If he saves 5 or 10 yards per attempt, that adds up. Box those bad guys in !
September 8th, 2018 at 10:34 PM ^
Now that you called attention to it. I totally agree. So under-appreciated.
September 8th, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
I was most impressed by ST today. Not to discredit the job of the D or the O, but ST was genuinely great today.
September 8th, 2018 at 6:08 PM ^
Nordin looks especially not good. That’s very concerning.
September 8th, 2018 at 6:09 PM ^
Punting was excellent. But we missed a FG and muffed a punt.
September 8th, 2018 at 4:25 PM ^
Will Hart has grasped the starting punter position even when Robbins gets healthy. He was bombing them today a 57 yard average is nuts
September 8th, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Not sure where to put this comment, but maybe this is the spot to be outraged that the endzones are purple rather than blue?
More on-topic, the ST did a great job overall and I will make an offering to the Field Goal gods to help Nordin find his way to the sacred sky between the uprights.
September 8th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
Sounds like a problem with your TV or eyes. The endzones looked Blue to me, and they are spectacular.
September 8th, 2018 at 7:30 PM ^
I was there and think they look great too, but it just looks like it should be a little darker or bluer - just like the Rose Bowl. Here's a pic of Nico's catch:
This is great on so many levels, right? But the color seems slightly off. Maybe the overcast skies? Look at it again next week. Obviously "outrage" is the wrong word and I'm kidding as I'd choose this over the old end zones any day.
September 8th, 2018 at 6:46 PM ^
I was in attendance - they looked blue to me.
September 8th, 2018 at 7:05 PM ^
I was also there. Definitely blue.
September 8th, 2018 at 7:12 PM ^
I was there too. Endzones are blue and look great.....reminded me of the Rose Bowl.
September 9th, 2018 at 12:11 AM ^
I found I liked the blue, but I don't like font. Nor do I like the new number font. Should have left it exactly how it was, but made the endzone background blue.
September 9th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
Yes. The old number font was classic. We’ve got to bring that back. These blockier numbers don’t do it for me.
September 8th, 2018 at 7:04 PM ^
In addition to DPJs fumble it looked like he kind of fought the first fair catch. He makes me nervous every time his is back there.
September 8th, 2018 at 7:30 PM ^
Ambry should be returning kick-offs. DPJ is good, but we cant afford to lose another one of our best receivers to injury doing a job that frankly Ambry seems to be better at. They are both play makers but why risk it when you should be trying to find ways to get Ambry in the game because he's really that good?
September 8th, 2018 at 9:07 PM ^
I haven't seen the replay yet but I'm almost positive Thomas judged the snap perfectly. He obviously has a special skill getting off the line on ball movement. Amazing actually.
Good kicks today.
September 8th, 2018 at 10:32 PM ^
YAY JOEY HEWLETT!!
Quinn Nordin making the field goal would've been nice, and Ambry Thomas not going offsides too...
Otherwise no complaints and nothing else really really stood out to me that hasn't already been mentioned.
September 9th, 2018 at 1:28 AM ^
WMU’s diagonal punt snap may be the dumbest strategy I have ever seen. Someone needs to explain geometry to their ST coach.
September 9th, 2018 at 9:48 AM ^
Time to move on from DPJ as punt returner. Fielding one inside the 5 last week along with the muff this week shows he just doesn’t have the right mentality back there. He’s too valuable on offense anyway.
September 9th, 2018 at 2:05 PM ^
MOOOOOOODY on the kickoffs.....looking great, even into the wind. Mustangs! (Northville, not SMU)
GO BLUE!
