Great win for the team!

love how much swagger this team has on defense.... Matthews getting into it with that UNC player was great.

Teske is a beast! Poole dialing long distance! Simpson taking it to the rack! Iggy with just a great soft shooting touch...

happy to be happy again

Excellent win, very entertaining game. I am a bit puzzled about the free throw struggles (no complaints here). But for a team with good shooting, what is the rationale for that? Lack of free throw practice? Mental?

Well, the 3 guys who seem to get to the line most frequently have all been poor ft shooters since they got here.

Matthews shoots with his arms extended way over his head, Simpson's form and mental struggles are pretty well known, and Teske struggles like many bigs.

It seems to me that Matthews is slowly improving, and will hopefully get to the mid-60%'s. His form isn't great, but he seems mentally tougher this year. Teske may get there with more attempts too. Alas, Simpson's ft ceiling is probably pretty low.

Iggy will be fine; he's just getting started. Poole and Livers are fine.

Matthews and Z should be shooting them like game shots, not still free throws. Move back, step into it, jump, etc. it might look weird but you have space and freedom to shoot that shot in a number of ways. Chuck is improving, but still. Dare to be different.

So many things to love about this team.

- Matthews' leadership, clutch scoring and toughness

- Simpson's calm, superb leadership and impossible driving layups

- Poole's swag and re-found stroke

- Teske's absurd rim protection, and strong presence in the middle

- Iggy's incredible athleticism and scoring ability

- Livers' new-found stroke and hustle; Brooks' timely scoring and effective minutes

- Coach Beilein and his staff. Incredible defensive ability, wonderful offensive system. I just love the two different teams we roll with - big and traditional pick and roll with Teske setting picks and finding open shooters, and small ball with Livers running the floor and spreading it out shooting threes.

The team lacks the star power of the big boys but they are sound on both sides of the ball.  Exceptional control and team play.  They don't take bad shots, careful with the basketball, great defensively and they play with controlled aggression.  This team will make some noise.

It's nice to have upper class leadership.  Most if not all of our guys are not the one and done sort but the silver lining is experience on the court.

Beilein's had great wins before but I'll say it...they BULLIED NORTH.  FREAKING.  CAROLINA.

There were guys going to the rim repeatedly and Teske and Matthews and Livers repeatedly said NOPE.  And this is not a mid-major these are NBA-level athletes from UNC.  Beilein's been great but...when have we seen this?

UNC learned the hard way that pressure helps but Beilein teams will make the right play 8 times out of 10 and get an easy bucket.  Not how you're going to beat us.

Another standout defensive performance from Z too.  Coby White is extremely talented and got his but Z was in his grill all night.  This looks like a complete team.  Free throws and zone offense get tightened up and man...bring on Zion let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

After a quick look at the schedule, I can see this team being 28-3 heading into the B1G Tournament. This team is headed for a #1 or #2 NCAA Tournament seeding. Of course, it's a long season, and there will be some tough, grinding Big Ten games (starting Saturday), but our schedule sets up well. We have two tough road games towards the end of the year (Maryland, MSU) but we have several days off before each game. Further, we don't visit Purdue or OSU this season.

As soon as Coach Beilein can get another guard and another big into the rotation, this team can be deep enough to endure, and win through, a tough, grinding Big Ten season.

The idea of the football/basketball school label comes from the fact that it's increasingly rare for schools to be good at both. Most programs seem to focus all of their attention/money in one program. The fact of the matter is, we don't bow to that paradigm. We have a legendary football program CURRENTLY in the top 10, who is one hump away from being national title contenders. Meanwhile, we have a consistently elite basketball program producing first round draft picks on a yearly basis, while winning Big Ten titles and making Final Fours frequently. Oh, and we're the best public school in America. We're not a football school. We're not a basketball school. We're Michigan. A category all by itself.

Like legitimately we are a basketball school.

I dont know any football school in the nation that has not won a title since 2003 whilst their basketball team has won 4 big ten titles and been to 2 National title games.

Over the last 50 years, we are a much better basketball school than we are a football school.

That's a fact.

We played for the National Championship seven frigging times.

That's a far better record than so-called "basketball schools" like Syracuse, Georgetown, Purdue, Arizona, etc.

Embrace it.
