We’re not getting better coaches to replace Drevno or Pep, are we?

Drevno is the lead recruiter for all of our remaining targets to join this class. Maybe that's a make it or break it situation for his recruiting. Hard to see any scenario where he gets replaced before signing day, short of losing all 3 before then.
Hamilton has become the point man for repairing our relationship with Belleville High. He gave Julian Barnett an offer last week and has 5* OL Dobbs plus two teammates visiting campus now. This is a very positive development for in-state recruiting and similarly a test for Hamilton's recruiting ability.

It's been discussed multiple times, even on TV broadcasts, that the offensive staff calls plays together. It's amazing that people still don't realize this and/or think this is some kind of insider info.

Three guys calling plays at the same time worked amazingly well in the 2016 season.

That is what happens when you overpay someone and give them a longer contract then what the market demands. Free markets are great... unless you make bad contracts.

But would need to have a viable replacement and it would be costly to buy out that contract.

What exactly are you basing your "Given how the NCAA operates" comment on and does it have anything to do with how the transfer process works in regards to schools being punished for violations? Do you have significant experience with this issue that you wouldn't mind sharing?

That's not the implication that the post I replied to makes. The implication is that the likely outcome is we won't get what we want. Your implication is it's completely random.
"it’s likely we won’t catch a break."
Is there a chance the NCAA won't approve it, yes. Is that what people who actually have knowledge and experience with the situation are saying? No. So we can sit here and spew out uninformed garbage all day long, but when we do I want to know if it's an actual source or just pent up venting.

Drevno isn't leaving at this point I don't think. Pep seems less and less likely with every passing day. Pretty disappointed we couldn't find anyone better. Well, maybe we did in Enos, but then 'Bama happened.
Idk man, I don't have high hopes at this point.

Yea people like to fire people when we aren't winning but maybe some consistency would go a long way. I hate to bring up MSU but they went from 3-9 to 10-3 in one season with no coaching changes (if I recall correctly). It's also good to know that the staff understands that there is a problem on offense and I trust that they will make changes to their strategy
If Patterson gets eligibility that will also boost morale around here.

Hate to agree with this, but it's the only thing to cling to think next year will be better. More like hope than logic, but I'll take it.

I don't think they are inept. It was more than coaches not calling the right plays.
Throwing the 2 fades into the endzone on our first drive against MSU was on the coaches.
Throwing 5 picks and almost the same amount against OSU and SC is on the players

Look at who FSU has hired lately. Maryland's OC, our OL-TE, MSU's co-DC. Coaches on other staffs are in play, especially for a school that pays as well as Michigan. This close to signing day, coaches are going to wait that out before making anything official.

For sure. Whiny bitches who think they know what they are talking about, placing all blame on two coaches when they dont have a clue what happens in the program beyond what they see on Saturdays and completely exonerating the players. Its tiresome.
January 27th, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
Also a majority of which cannot begin to explain the differences between power and zone blocking schemes to even know what a good hire as an OL coach would even look like.

Dude built a very good OL at Stanford. JH brought him back on staff coming here. He's a very capable coach (aware of the criticism), and I think he will prove it.
January 27th, 2018 at 12:17 PM ^
The team each year towards the end of the season gets worse and worse (bowl game versus Florida the exception) so I don't think it is wrong to ask for changes on the staff after waiting three years. I know people preach patience, but I'm already tired of watching 9-4 or 8-5 football. "Whiny bitches" or not, I think people are too accepting and make too many excuses. Fer God sakes, we have won 1 out of the last 14 games vs Ohio. Purdue has won more games vs Ohio in that time period than we have. We haven't won an outright B1G Championship in 15 years. Is that whiny bitches?
The playcalling is atrocious and there is no progression in the quality of O line play. End of story. Look at our defense and tell me good coaching doesn't matter with young players.
Bo didn't accept mediocrity and neither should we. And knowing how competitive Harbaugh is, I'm sure this is eating him up.
I love Harbaugh, and I was really excited when he came, but at $9M/year, there are expectations that go along with that salary and an investment of our time in Michigan football.
January 27th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
I agree with you but need to point out that while it's sad that Pudue has more wins against OSU than we do, OSU plays us harder. They were probably half baked when they played Purdue
January 27th, 2018 at 8:53 PM ^
We should be equaling Ohio's intensity and game calling, and we are not.
