We’re not getting better coaches to replace Drevno or Pep, are we?

Submitted by ShittyPlaceKicker on
All season long there was non-stop talk by Michigan fans on here and reddit about how they couldn’t wait for Harbaugh to clean house on offense. It’s almost February and nothing has changed. Is it safe to say at this point that there’s a really good chance that our coaching staff is going to look the same come our first game against Notre Dame? Has there been any news to indicate otherwise? If not, how do we all feel about this?

I've spoken to some people around the program and they've told me that all 3 (Harbaugh, Drevno, & Hamilton) call plays on game day. I'd like to see that simplified to one voice - preferably Harbaugh. Would provide the players with more continuity and less confusion.

Drevno is the lead recruiter for all of our remaining targets to join this class. Maybe that's a make it or break it situation for his recruiting. Hard to see any scenario where he gets replaced before signing day, short of losing all 3 before then.

Hamilton has become the point man for repairing our relationship with Belleville High. He gave Julian Barnett an offer last week and has 5* OL Dobbs plus two teammates visiting campus now. This is a very positive development for in-state recruiting and similarly a test for Hamilton's recruiting ability.

This is what I was thinking. Removing positional coaches (who recruit) this close to signing day would seem to be forfeiture of those remaining targets. It may not be loyal, but I think it might be smart to wait ‘til after NSD before canning anyone else.

Staff members have input. One person communicates the play. Players have a single point of contact. Your notion that this approach causes any player confusion is telling. As for “people around the program” telling you about the collaboration, really? I’m surprised that anyone on this board wasn’t aware of that fact. It’s common knowledge.

Just his mouth. Nothing for his gut to tell him yet. No one knows anything until the NCAA decides. There’s a bunch of players compiling a bunch of defense documents and that’s pretty much all there is to go on now. So you can feel good about that but it’s still the NCAA and predicting what they will do is 100% a crapshoot.

That's not the implication that the post I replied to makes.  The implication is that the likely outcome is we won't get what we want.  Your implication is it's completely random.

"it’s likely we won’t catch a break."

Is there a chance the NCAA won't approve it, yes.  Is that what people who actually have knowledge and experience with the situation are saying?  No.  So we can sit here and spew out uninformed garbage all day long, but when we do I want to know if it's an actual source or just pent up venting.

Drevno isn't leaving at this point I don't think. Pep seems less and less likely with every passing day. Pretty disappointed we couldn't find anyone better. Well, maybe we did in Enos, but then 'Bama happened.

Idk man, I don't have high hopes at this point.

Yea people like to fire people when we aren't winning but maybe some consistency would go a long way. I hate to bring up MSU but they went from 3-9 to 10-3 in one season with no coaching changes (if I recall correctly). It's also good to know that the staff understands that there is a problem on offense and I trust that they will make changes to their strategy

If Patterson gets eligibility that will also boost morale around here.

With Enos gone there is a chance that we go hire another offensive coach. Though I imagine it’s pretty slim pickings at this point. Is there a chance we just upgrade Warriner?

For sure. Whiny bitches who think they know what they are talking about, placing all blame on two coaches when they dont have a clue what happens in the program beyond what they see on Saturdays and completely exonerating the players. Its tiresome.

The team each year towards the end of the season gets worse and worse (bowl game versus Florida the exception) so I don't think it is wrong to ask for changes on the staff after waiting three years. I know people preach patience, but I'm already tired of watching 9-4 or 8-5 football. "Whiny bitches" or not, I think people are too accepting and make too many excuses. Fer God sakes, we have won 1 out of the last 14 games vs Ohio. Purdue has won more games vs Ohio in that time period than we have. We haven't won an outright B1G Championship in 15 years. Is that whiny bitches?

The playcalling is atrocious and there is no progression in the quality of O line play. End of story. Look at our defense and tell me good coaching doesn't matter with young players.

Bo didn't accept mediocrity and neither should we. And knowing how competitive Harbaugh is, I'm sure this is eating him up.

I love Harbaugh, and I was really excited when he came, but at $9M/year, there are expectations that go along with that salary and an investment of our time in Michigan football.
