Way OT: OSU OC Brian Hartline crashes ATV at home

Some more detail from CBS sports:
That's noble and all but sign me up for a victory over OSU in any fashion. I don't care if they're 11-0 or 0-11.
That's weird. I, actually, would prefer they lose every game until we play them.
If OSU went 0-11 do you know what our recruiting would look like?
So he was in the second half of his biggest ride of year, at home, when things went sideways?
Sounds accurate to me. Hard to guess at the speed, but somewhere between 23-45 mph seems right.

Like, what??!
....
...OHHHHH!!!!!
Wish him well. Not sure what a side by side or a double wide is but probably not a good idea to be doing it at 1 am. Smh .

WHAT IS A UTV OR SIDE-BY-SIDE (SXS)?
A UTV (utility task vehicle) is a four- to six-wheel off-road vehicle equipped with a steering wheel, bucket or bench seating with seatbelts, foot pedals, and a roll bar or cage. Most UTV models have multiple seats for up to six riders. Many come with 4WD or all-wheel drive (AWD) capabilities, though some are strictly 2WD.
Because most UTVs have at least two front seats, they’re also widely called “side-by-sides” (SxS). You may also see UTVs marketed as Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) or Multipurpose Off-Highway Utility Vehicles (MOHUVs), and more broadly lumped together with quads as All-Purpose Vehicles (APVs) or with a slew of other rough-and-tumble rigs as Off-Road Vehicles (ORVs).
Roughly speaking, think of a SxS/UTV as a beefed-up vehicle that will allow you to access parts of the world that may be otherwise unreachable by other vehicles. And, you can bring others along for the journey!
So a car is a side-by-side?
The solo cup declined to make any comment on the situation.
My BIL crashed on an ATV a bunch of years ago and ended up in the hospital with a broken back. Never had a desire to ride one of those things.
Malik McDowell was driving an ATV when he crashed in 2017.
He was also involved in a car accident where he fled the scene back when he played for the Dolphins. Sounds like he has a problem with alcohol.
We should cut him some slack. He had the flu.

I don't know about the specific details of this accident (hope he makes a full recovery) but I'm going to go on a mini rant.
For some reason people treat boats, ATV's, golf carts, snowmobiles, etc like toys. They are all very big and heavy and potentially dangerous machines that do not have anything like the safety features that automobiles do. So why do people zip around on them recklessly and get drunk while operating them?
There's been a trend in the Northern Lower Peninsula, at least in the areas I spend time in, of people taking ATV's or jumped up golf carts out on the roads (think rural 55 mph highways. Leaving aside how selfish it is to force everyone else to crawl along at 30mph until there's room to pass safely, I'm not sure what these people think will happen to them if they hit a deer or if an oncoming driver blows a tire and swerves into them.
So anyways, please be careful y'all!
It is infinitely more easier to drive an UTV to a trail than it is to load it into a trailer (most modern UTVs are too wide to fit in a pickup bed). Suck it up and pass me at the next straight.
Or maybe, JUST MAYBE, you should suck it up and load it on a trailer even though it is "more easier" to just drive it there.
Oh my god you had to drive 30 mph for half a mile I’m so sorry not sorry
You’re that person that freaks out on bikers who use the lane, too, I bet.
Exactly. If it’s a licensed vehicle, it has the right to the lane, just like any other vehicle. If it’s not a freeway there is no minimum speed requirement, so the complaint here really just boils down to entitlement.
I love the douchbag suburban dads that are buying ATVs for their kids to ride around in a subdivision.
“Leaving aside how selfish it is to force everyone else to crawl along at 30mph”
You do recognize that there isn’t a minimum speed requirement on those roads, right? It smacks of urban/suburban entitlement to make this complaint when there are all kinds of reasons in rural Michigan that you’ll be behind something slow. Tractors, buggies, ATVs, bicycles, you name it.

I think it cuts both ways. I do not have a problem being stuck behind bikes, tractors et cetera but I would say it is just as entitled to say "others should drive slower because it is too much work to put my toy on a trailer".

It’s probably worth deconstructing why that is, since all of those are completely road legal. A tractor can be trailered just the same as an ATV, but it’s work, so it’s more convenient to just drive it.
I would deconstruct it further.
I assumed you meant farm equipment which many farmers to not own semi-trailers to move their combines et cetera and is NOT as easy as trailering ATV. I do not even mind mowers as some people have to mow their yards yet do not own a trailer.
I do not mind bicycles because the road is probably the destination and are easy to pass.
ATV's are usually heading towards trails and people do not trailer them because it is extra work. So actively being inconvenient to the majority of other people on the road to avoid an inconvenience for themselves. Yes, it is legal but that does not excuse you from criticism for being inconsiderate.
That being said, I don't care. I just thought it seemed VERY hypocritical to say "It is easier just to drive an ATV to a trail so YOU can suck it up because YOU'RE entitled."
So wait, you’re really saying that exercising a legal equal access right to the roadway, and someone pointing out that someone else who wants to go faster should follow the established law (ie pass on the next straight) is entitled? That literally makes no sense whatsoever. Pass on the next straight is literally what you would do with a car, a bike, a tractor, or anything else. Might you be annoyed? Sure. But it’s their legal right. Same as the licensed ATV driver.
The minimum speed requirement in Michigan is 10mph over the speed limit. Go ahead, look it up.
“The minimum speed requirement in Michigan is 10mph over the speed limit.”
10mph over. I love it!

Roads aren't just for cars.
ATV/UTV's, snowmobiles, golf carts, bicycles, pedestrians... all legal road users in these areas.
It ain't "selfish" - that guy on his bicycle has equal right to travel on the road as you do.
So he is a better WR recruiter than ATV driver/pregame speech giver?
All kidding assign, I hope he makes a swift recovery and begins crashing the OSU offense instead.
If he’s out 4 wheeling at 100am he wasn’t the coach that urban had watching Michigan football every day
I'd like to hear more about how and where this crash actually occurred. Brian Hartline has a history of peculiar unexplained crashes in the wee hours of the morning, then referring the matter to his lawyer..

Latest report is that he admitted drinking, and the cops reported a strong smell of alcohol in his hospital room. Seems to be a pattern here.
I agree. Thanks for the info.
Maybe he should join AA. They have an excellent emergency roadside assistance program.
It's called AA AAA.
I think the best thing about Hartline is listening to his pre-game speech this past year. And then, to see his look on the sideline after the second long touchdown run. That was nice.
"What happens in the dark will come to light"
Pro tip, if you practiced football with the lights on maybe you would learn to tackle.
Just came out that he was drinking while driving the ATV and if he was above the legal limit, which I assume he was given he seriously crashed, that's a DUI in Ohio. Given it's Hartline, I assume nothing will happen to him
It was on his own property
