Will the rumblings about resurrecting the pom poms come to fruition? Will we be good at following these directions for once? We'll soon find out.
Wear maize, Go Blue!
In all seriousness, I have absolutely no idea what to expect out of this game. I do feel good about a night game in the Big House at least. Those typically seem to bode well for us.
Pain!
This is a good idea for a very crucial game on the schedule. If we can beat Western, then Washington, it gives us some momentum for N. Illinois and Rutgers.
Hope the pom poms make it back as well. We need all the help we can get.
Hoping we are good enough to not need a momentum assist in order to beat the likes of N. Illinois or Rutgers on our home turf. But we will certainly need all the momentum we can gather from (hopefully) being 4-0 to go on the road and beat Wisconsin.
Our schedule is brutal. There are no easy games. Maybe Northern Illinois, but even they have a QB that beat us last year in Rocky Lombardi. Western ain't easy. Rutgers will not be easy... We went to the wire with them last year, and a year 2 Schiano lead Rutgers team will be no joke.
This schedule is absolutely brutal.
Wow, year 7 of our savior JMFH, and MAC games are now not walks in the park!
UM will crush WMU and Northern IL. Not even worried about those games. Most likely will beat down Rutgers. Washington will be tough.

This isn't new. Jim Harbaugh and Josh Gattis squeaked by Army at home by the narrowest of margins a couple years ago. Western can put up some yards and while we haven't seen MacDonald's defense we have seen the guys who make up MacDonald's defense and they gave up a lot of yards before. Combine that defensive roster that sure seems lacking in areas with a new system implemented by a first-time DC and you're far from a guarantee that things will start smooth.
The schedule is brutal every year. It's college football.
And even in the years when all the favorable games were at home, Michigan still trips over themselves.
The schedule is no different than it ever is. You'll have rivals at home, rivals on the road- it's all about winning the games that you shouldn't and rising up.
Funny enough, OSU never complains about having a difficult schedule when they have to go to Penn State or at Michigan, because they're practically second homes to them.

Funny enough, OSU never complains
Don't forget, last season was an aberration because Michigan didn't have camp due to COVID.
We get 12 possibly 13 games a year. College football is the best we get around here in Michigan. Let’s not worry the season away before it gets here. Last year was brutal and I don’t think it will have any impact on this year. I highly doubt we will be any worse than 9-3 (of course I want better). There’s a lot of talent on this team. If we get good qb play plus solid D on the front 7, I think we will be better than most expect. GO BLUE!!! I will be at the game wearing my Maize!!
I can't agree with your analysis, in fact I think 3 losses is pretty much a given (OSU, @Wisky, @PSU) but I admire your positive attitude and confidence. Go blue!
I’m taking each week by themselves…only game I think we can’t win is OSU. Wisky is close to the same but not scared by PSU. They were 1-6 last year. Not sure why everyone is giving them a pass and yet we are highly looked down upon. That’s why I am taking them one week at a time.
It's usually 50/50 against PSU, but the game is in Happy Valley and that makes the odds more like 25/75.
Clicked on here to say exactly this. So I will echo Catch....this is a huge game for the season, and whatever we can do to give ourselves the best home-field advantage we can is a smart move.
If we are undefeated going into the Wiscy game, we have some serious momentum for a win against them. And then a win against Rutgers.
Winning builds confidence.
I mean, yes, winning builds confidence. But we've started many seasons 4-0 or 6-0 or even 9-0 before running into brick walls. The issue isn't so much confidence and streaks. The issue is that, although Harbaugh's teams mostly beat inferior opponents and sometimes beat evenly matched ones, they never beat teams ranked higher and have never pull off a big upset. And, except for year one, they've consistently faded down the stretch.
....and his teams NEVER win on the road, as our best road win, other than the very 1st bowl game, was against 20th ranked Northwestern.
Ooof, I hate hearing "gives us some momentum for N. Illinois and Rutgers"... That hurts my soul.

Now that's a call to action! Beat Western, N. Illinois, and Rutgers! Go team. Have we fallen this far?
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
I watched Under the Lights II while on an airplane the other day and the pom-poms, at night, was gorgeous. I was there, it was amazing in person, but I hadn't watched that much of it on TV and the energy came across. I hope we do that instead of trying to get everyone to wear maize, or do both I guess.
I prefer the towels! Just give the fans something to wave!
And to throw at ND players when they score a TD after a bullshit call!
Sadly no it won't.
Unless they hand out t-shirts or do the pom-poms again (UTL I those things were amazing) people just do not wear maize that much as their shirt color even if you ask them to do it. And if it's cool at all no freaking way will it be a maize out (how many posters own a maize jacket vs a blue one?).
Why they dont do a "blue out" I'll never know. THAT could get done based on the wardrobe I see for most fans. Blue is the primary color you see around the stadium on game day IMO, not maize. But it doesnt look as striking on TV and my guess is that's why this is being done.
A bright yellow stadium at night seems more daunting that basically a dark blue one.
I remember we did a "blue-out" a number of years ago. It does not really look like anything, our blue is too dark.
When we do the maize-out well, especially at night, it is indeed a thing of beauty.
We can do this, people.
Plus it does not help that it is not written on the ticket also. IIRC, in prior years several Maize Outs were planned early enough where they were on the tickets, as many people do not follow twitter or pay attention to the emails that the AD sends out almost weekly.

It's too bad that yellow is a lousy color for most pale folks like me. Dark blue looks much better but is low-impact on TV. Alas.
If they hand out things to wave around I hope they include instructions. Many people don't realize that they need to be at eye level or below to not block another person's view.
a blue out looks like shit on tv. The fact that we can't do a maize out is just another example of how exceedingly mediocre the michigan fan base is. If we didn't have the largest stadium literally nobody would ever mention michigan as a place going to see football is worth doing, just nothing special about the crowd and no really cool traditions
A "blue out" wouldn't even be noticeable. The stadium would look exactly the same that it always does...drab and boring.
If Penn State can get the whole crowd to wear white, then this fanbase needs to get off their lazy ass and buy/wear maize for a Maize-Out. I've never seen such a boring, lame stand full of fans as at the Big House. Hell, half the crowd doesn't even wear actual Michigan gear, just normal clothing LoL. Like, come on folks, we can do better than this.
You solve the problem by giving everyone a cheap maize t-shirt. It's not that complicated.
Really? I've been to several maize out games and feel like fans were at least 80% appropriate.
In any case can't wait for the game - angst or not it'll be great to be back at the stadium (and pregame) - have some relatives coming in from Canada that I haven't seen since the covid crisis so doubly excited.
Cheers.
A Washington Husky blog member is now bemoaning the fact that "Why does our game need to be the Maize Out? That always happens to us!"
Little do they know that we, as a fanbase and an institution, cannot agree on what color maize really should be! I would label it as a "Yellowish Hue Out".
Highlighter Yellow Out!
Now they will understand our pain during a Whiteout. I have no empathy whatsoever. I think the Maize out will be a good success.
What are the chances that Michigan is also going to be wearing all maize for the game?
Seems a bit corny.
National TV Game + we've been wearing them in practice + we've only worn them once since 1924 (against Florida in 2017) and never at home + it's officially a "maize out" = damn near 100% chance we will.
I'd guess the all blues.
The all blues are coming. Been shown way too much in practice, recruit pictures, etc.
How festive. Game is on 9/11.
The 2010 matchup against Notre Dame was also on 9/11.

So we're supposed to stop living because something happened which was beyond all of our control?
I'm just hoping they also include the giant noodle
The guy who approved that is a noodle.
