Vince Gray, Charbonnet Stood Out. Which Other Newcomers/New Starters Did You Notice?

Vince Gray stood out last night. He played very well. Aubrey described him as a "baller" post game and someone they knew would shine back in spring ball.

Charbonnet looked great, as hyped. Really has good speed and vision from what I saw on TV.

I like Giles in the kick return game. He has a low base and stays on his feet really well. Can he not return punts?

Ross played well too. Realize he's seasoned already but kind of a newish starter.

Who else did you see for first time or starting in blue that impressed?

Mayfield has Elite speed in his drop step.  Quality of opponent caveats apply, but could probably already say he's an upgrade on JBB.

Hayes did some seemingly advanced things I'm terms of passing guys off and picking up a second comer.  His strength is just a little bit less than ideal.  But this should be a confidence builder and he will be fine if needed.  Hopefully he gets the Army game as well.

So best newcomer: the idea that we can insert new tackles into the OL and have them be good instead of disastrous.  Seriously, it's been years.

But clearly, judging by your negativism on steroids here and elswhere, you had/have no ability to see anything positive about anything Michigan from last night. Many, many young players were getting their first significant real-time action...and in player combinations that were also new. These kids are talented-the major onus here is on the coaching staff to facilitate the realization of the talent they have assembled.

It most certainly is, no one this board should be trying to convince themselves otherwise.

But the worries preseason were DT, RB, and the second CB.  It looks like two solutions appeared at RB (Charbonnet and Turner) and another two at second CB (Thomas' unexpected early return to form and Gray).  Michigan is pretty damn good everywhere else.

So one problem to solve, and they have some guys who can return from injury and some freshman potential to do so.  It's very possible Brown is less willing to play true freshmen (Hinton and Smith) than Gattis/Harbaugh.  But there seems to be little choice after last night

Very impressed with Charbonnet.  That blitz pickup he had early on was beautiful.  We may have a star RB for the first time since Mike Hart.   I really liked Turner as well.  They could be a nice 1-2 punch.

grey looked promising.  charbonnet and turner are the type backs theyve been missing.  should be a nice 1-2 punch, especially when they work out timing of screen game and start utilizing those guys more in pass game.  impressive pass pro from charbonnet.

they should have enough at every other position to compete each week but DL is a concern.  patterson should find his rhythm and itll help when guys like runyan, peoples jones return, as long as they ditch the silly 2 QB nonsense and lose some of the attempted trickery.  if they want or need to play both QBs, thats fine, just dont do it at the same time...not worth it to rep that stuff every day for the 1 time per year it fools someone.

DL though...after taking 0 DT in 15 and realizing paea and irving bey werent part of the future rotation they still only signed 2 significant project type DEs to go with hutchinson in 18?  thats not great.  if they added a DT that class, any DT, at least theyd have another non true frosh body to throw inside at this point.  hutchinson and paye are big and versatile enough to get by sliding inside to buy snaps vs lesser teams but they really need jeter to be a revelation and dwumfour to find a light switch (and stay on the field).

plenty of positives and they can coach up many of the issues.  DL will determine much of the season though

Giles Jackson on the kick returns, he has some nice cuts and a burst of speed. We could use him as a punt returner as well if he is not going to see the field as a WR this year to save some of our other players
