Urban Meyer says Michigan finally has a spread offense

“Well, I went back and watched it and I think Gattis did a heckuva job,” Meyer said. “That’s a legitimate spread offense. And he has options.

Meyer would never coach at MSU. They don't have the name to attract him or the money to pay him. I could see him taking the USC job when that opens again--which will be soon. I could see him taking the Texas job as well. Both are recruiting hotbeds. I can't see him at Tennessee. Tennessee isn't exactly a recruiting hotbed. It's a tougher rebuild for him, and the current roster is weaker than the other two. I'll add this--maybe UCLA?

Man, the readership here is nuts.  I put in a throw-away joke about MSU looking for a new coach (a dig at Tucker) and y'all think and actually debate the notion of Urban actually coaching at MSU.  The notion that Urban would touch that steaming pile known as MSU with a long pole was most assuredly not what I meant.  I'm all for a spirited discussion on the board, but let's keep the car on the road.

I guess maybe I'm a little bit of a conspiracy theorist but I don't like Urban Meyer being on for Michigan games and then rewatching Michigan games. I notice when he speaks of the Buckeyes he says "we" a lot! I think he still has his hands in their game plans for Michigan, he maybe the one that watches and breaks down all the Michigan tape and sends it in at the end of the season to allow Day to concentrate on his weekly games. I don't like it one bit!

I mean... I don't like the guy, but he's among the most qualified people on the planet when it comes to analyzing spread offenses. He built one of the first successful iterations in Florida and then turned a strong OSU into the death machine it is today. The guy's stamp of approval on an offense is not nothing.

Don't fall for the false dichotomy... he can be incredibly talented and a person of questionable integrity.

Regardless of what you think of Meyer, I agree with everything he said, and his analysis is spot on.

  • Gattis did a great job. The game plan, as noted in Michigan Monday, didn't require too much of Milton.
  • Milton did everything asked of him, is a great athlete, and is only gonna get better.
  • Warinner has done a tremendous job with the OL. They are pulling, working as a unit, and doing everything asked of them. (I personally believe the OL is a key reason we are doing well, and a key reason we have not been good for many, many years.)

I have drunk the koolaid, and am really looking forward to seeing Milton get better and the team improve.

F that guy, but I agree -- watching the game I felt like Michigan had a legitimate modern offense.  First time in a long time I felt that way, felt like even past couple of years we were still play Lloyd Carr ball, with some hoke/harbuagh wrinkles thrown in.  Also helps that Milton looked amazing.
